[Bug 295408] Re: nautilus expanding the first visible folder after using keyboard to select a file

2009-06-17 Thread nh2
Please, can anyone clarify if this bug is a duplicate of Bug 49567?
If so, we'll have to add gtk+ 2.0 to #49567 as we did in this bug.

Could you try if 185.18.14 works for you without it, too?

[Bug 320901] Re: amarok 2 not play mp3's in default installation

2009-07-17 Thread nh2
@Harald Sitter:

Of course, you are right concerning the MP3 patents. But as far as I
know, libxine1-ffmpeg is not what installs MP3 support, but only a
plugin for xine to use ffmpeg (and therefore free software which is in
the main repo).

If libxine1-ffmpeg is not installed, Amarok is not able to play MP3 even
if you installed ubuntu-restricted-extras, from what the user expects to
make MP3 work - an unexperienced user would never get the idea of
installing libxine1-ffmpeg.

Is there any reason not to recommend libxine1-ffmpeg in the Amarok
package?

[Bug 264176] Re: yakuake – frequent text r ender issues

2009-01-21 Thread nh2
In my eyes, it is not related neither only to Yakuake neither to GNOME
but rather to Compiz combinated to Qt or the KD _Environment_ itself. I
experience these problems under KDE as well as GNOME, using both Yakuake
and Lokalize (see the screenshots attached). Not only the console text
remains not updated or corrupted, but also the common scrollbars
sometimes do not move on mouse wheel usage.

Please give it a try and install and launch Lokalize and open any .po
file which should not be too small. Scroll down the entries in the left
and click on them; you will notice that at certain times parts of the
entry list or even the whole Lokalize window is not updated after
clicking on a list entry.

Maybe Lokalize's behaviour gives somebody a hint what is wrong with some
of these Qt programs.

It seems this has greatly improved with NVIDIA 185.13. All my yakuake render

Lokalize has also improved, but sometimes the screen is still not updated.

Please try 185.13 and tell us if it improves anything.

My current system configuration:
Ubuntu 8.10 (Gnome), Compiz 0.7.8, KDE Experimental Repo (->KDE 4.2.1, Qt 4.5),
Yakuake 2.9.3, Lokalize 0.3,

[Bug 222532] Re: Option to connect to "secure webdav" network locations missing in nautilus

2009-04-04 Thread nh2
Confirmed, menu item is there in Intrepid.

I get the same error as Mark Edington. When connecting to non-anonymous
dav(s)://, either via Nautilus location line or via "Connect to server" dialog,
but ONLY if providing a username in the first step (so using
"dav://usern...@..." or filling in the username field in the "Connect to
server" dialog box, "Moved Permanently" pops up.
I found out this only happens when connecting to a sub-directory.

This bug is known: #227852, it was filed for Hardy but now it seems to
be back (or still not fixed).

Please try to connect to the WebDAV webdavtest.nh2.me and also to
webdavtest.nh2.me/webdavtest via dialog or dav:// link. Both are mapped
to the same directory, but only the first one will work. And please take
some seconds to report your experience to Bug 227852.

[Bug 357001] [NEW] distcc prevents mounting due to wrong home directory

2009-04-07 Thread nh2
Public bug reported:

On distcc install, the user distccd gets / as home directory.
This prevents users from user-mounting mounts in the fstab:

mount /media/mymountpoint
/sbin/mount.davfs: / is the home directory of user distccd.
You can't mount into another users home directory

sudo usermod --home /dev/null distccd
does the trick.

Suggestion: Set the correct --home to /dev/null on install.

[Bug 49567] Re: list view doesn't expand subfolder when clicking on arrow if entry is selected

2009-04-12 Thread nh2
Confirmed in Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.04.

This is _extremely_ annoying if you want to navigate quitckly in your
files. You found that folder by search that folder and you just cannot
enter it; on click, everything moves down because the first directory is
expanded.

I think this bug can be fixed easily by not expanding the old active
column (no idea why this is the first one) but just that column we
clicked the arrow in.

collapses.

2009-03-27 Thread nh2
Public bug reported:

This is a refile of Bug #280625
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/280625).

I do not know which part of GTK is causing the problem, so I file it

Open gtk-demo, open the "Assistant" demo and type a backspace into the text
box. The internal PC speaker (also known as "beep") rings instead of the
expected Ubuntu notification sound configured in the sound settings.

This bug affects many applications (all that use GTK) such as Firefox

[Bug 365943] Re: Mouse cursor jumps when two fingers are used

2009-08-11 Thread nh2
0.99.3-2ubuntu5 (it is in the X Updates PPA and Karmic, right?) causes
the same problems as stated in #4 on a Samsung NC10 and a Dell Latitude
2100. Both touchpads become almost unusable as when moving the finger
faster than snail speed, the cursor just stops moving and continues only
in small jumps, as if it had hung up somewhere.

A note: That two-finger-hopping is what I would have expected to happen
- most notebooks I've used running Windows Synaptic drivers do behave
exactly like this. I never knew it was a bug ;-)

If there is a patch to make the pad working again, I'll be glad to test
it.

[Bug 412704] [NEW] Random Kernel Panics on Dell Latitude 2100 on Karmic

2009-08-12 Thread nh2
Public bug reported:

While the preinstalled Ubuntu Jaunty runs fine (well done, Dell!) on my
Latitude 2100, I experience random hard kernel panics with Ubuntu 9.10.

It seems the problem has something to do with network activity. I experience it
on:
- Firefox browsing
- copying files from/to a Samba share with Nautilus
- even on file transfers through sshfs and scp.

Unfortunately, the bug is semi-reproducable in such way that e.g. a scp
fails in about one of five cases.

I neither know which part of the system is responsible for these panics
nor how to identify the error, since the system just freezes and no
information is printed to the console or /var/log/messages. As I have
KMS enabled, the last thing displayed is my mouse cursor inside an empty
TTY console (which is very interesting, too). Disabling KMS did not
bring up any further information.

Does anyone have a suggestion how to identify the error?

After I got a kernel panic while trying to upload a crash report with

Since that abort, apport regrets working, so I opened Bug 414055 so I
perhaps get a hint how to apport-report again.

Furthermore, I tried the upstream kernel 2.6.31-rc6 without luck, the
panic keeps appearing.

[Bug 414749] [NEW] Touchscreen fires incorrect events when moving fast

2009-08-17 Thread nh2
Public bug reported:

When I press a finger onto my touch screen (Dell Latitude 2100) on the
Desktop background and moving it around fast (especially down fast), the
context menu pops up. Using Karmic.

Xev shows a

ButtonPress event, serial 32, synthetic NO, window 0x401,
root 0xff, subw 0x0, time 1900807, (73,116), root:(664,166),
state 0x0, button 3, same_screen YES

when that happens and some MotionNotifies later a

ButtonRelease event, serial 32, synthetic NO, window 0x401,
root 0xff, subw 0x0, time 1901664, (90,77), root:(681,127),
state 0x400, button 3, same_screen YES

Are there any hidden touch screen guestures I do not know about or is
this a bug?

[Bug 412704] Re: Random Kernel Panics on Dell Latitude 2100 on Karmic

2009-08-19 Thread nh2
OK, this seems to be the Wifi driver, since it stops happening on wired network.
As lspci reports, it is an Intel Corporation Wireless WiFi Link 5100.
I also got a printout (photo attached) using scp on TTY 1.

Is this enough information to narrow it down (I still have no idea how
to record the full panic output)? Shall I try out some other
kernels/drivers/whatever?

Thanks.

[Bug 412704] Re: Random Kernel Panics on Dell Latitude 2100 on Karmic

2009-08-19 Thread nh2
I've tried the whole thing on 2.6.30.5:

I scp'd something to another computer. The first two times, it worked
flawlessly, but the third time the following appeared:
[ 314.757531] iwlagn 000:0c:00.0: iwl_tx_agg_start on ra = 00:1f:3f:d4:e8:c9
tid = 0
[ 314.757595] iwlagn 000:0c:00.0: HW queue is empty

I scp'd again, this time:
[ 395.230500] iwlagn 000:0c:00.0: Microcode SW error detected. Restarting
0x9200.

Then, wifi was down. Pinging a computer in my network resulted in:
[ 541.806238] iwlagn 000:0c:00.0: Invalid station for AGG tid 0
[ 541.807424] iwlagn 000:0c:00.0: Invalid station for AGG tid 0
[ 541.828119] iwlagn 000:0c:00.0: mac90211-phy0: failed to remove key (0,
00:1f:3f:d4:e8:c9) from hardware (-22)

After a minute, wifi was back.

Note that on 2.6.30.5, the computer did post that message but not
freeze.

In 2.6.29, there is no error at all, so I suspect this to be a
regression.

[Bug 314187] [NEW] FN-F8 still does not work to switch LCD/CRT

2009-01-05 Thread nh2
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nvidia-glx-173

I have got a Dell Inspiron 5150 with a nVidia GeForce Go 5200 graphics card on
Ubuntu 8.10.
I've successfully installed nvidia-glx-173 as Ubuntu told me; this is version
173.14.12.

The problem is the FN-F8 key combination is completely useless (as it
just does nothing) and does not switch between the notebooks LCD and the
external monitor.

I have also tried 173.14.15 as well as several workarounds, but with no
success.

(Please tell me what system information is important to this.)
Thank you.

[Bug 311271] [NEW] Sony NWZ-A828 still does not work in Intrepid

2008-12-24 Thread nh2
Public bug reported:

I think this bug is still related to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/209483 although it was said there that
it had been fixed in Intrepid.

Whenever I connect my Sony MP3 player to Ubuntu, dmesg reports a lot of
"attempt to access beyond end of device" (see attached file). I also
cannot mount it using KDE 4.

Where is the problem? Is this still the old bug #209483?
(I do not really know if this bug really concerns the linux package, but the
old bug used it, too.)

Thank you!

Thank you.

[Bug 311271] [NEW] Sony NWZ-A828 still does not work in Intrepid

[Bug 320901] Re: amarok 2 not play mp3's in default installation

2009-07-17 Thread nh2
@Harald Sitter:

Is there any reason not to recommend libxine1-ffmpeg in the Amarok
package?

collapses.

2009-03-27 Thread nh2
Public bug reported:

This is a refile of Bug #280625
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/280625).

I do not know which part of GTK is causing the problem, so I file it

To reproduce:
Open gtk-demo, open the "Assistant" demo and type a backspace into the text
box. The internal PC speaker (also known as "beep") rings instead of the
expected Ubuntu notification sound configured in the sound settings.

This bug affects many applications (all that use GTK) such as Firefox

** Affects: distcc (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 295408] Re: nautilus expanding the first visible folder after using keyboard to select a file

2009-06-17 Thread nh2
Please, can anyone clarify if this bug is a duplicate of Bug 49567?
If so, we'll have to add gtk+ 2.0 to #49567 as we did in this bug.

[Bug 264176] Re: yakuake – frequent text r ender issues

2009-06-17 Thread nh2
For me, it even works without the compiz workaround ticked (using nvidia
185.18.14).
Could you try if 185.18.14 works for you without it, too?

[Bug 264176] Re: yakuake – frequent text r ender issues

2009-03-15 Thread nh2
It seems this has greatly improved with NVIDIA 185.13. All my yakuake render
issuses are gone!
Lokalize has also improved, but sometimes the screen is still not updated.

Please try 185.13 and tell us if it improves anything.

My current system configuration:
Ubuntu 8.10 (Gnome), Compiz 0.7.8, KDE Experimental Repo (->KDE 4.2.1, Qt 4.5),
Yakuake 2.9.3, Lokalize 0.3,
NVIDIA 185.13.
