[Bug 206163] Re: cheese doesn't detect internal Hp Pavilion webcam

2008-08-05 Thread nire
Here is the link to the upstream bugreport:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=531835

It seems that it's not a bug in cheese, but in the r5u870 driver.
According to the current developer of the driver, the webcam is not
setup for HAL, and since cheese uses HAL to find webcams, it cannot find
one.

Quote from Comment #10
(http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=531835):

"Figured I might as well reply directly to the bug and CC myself. :)

Yes, from the looks of it, it's just because the webcam is not setup as HAL
device. Basically, you'll need to modify the FDI files shipped with your
distribution (which come from upstream) and add the USB device to the correct
.fdi file (probably /usr/share/hal/fdi/information/10freedesktop/10-.fdi).
Then you can send a diff to the hal-info guys, and your device should be
shipped in the next release. I'll probably do this at some later stage (since I
have all the device IDs and such), but haven't really had much time, and wasn't
even aware this was necessary until now.

If you'd like to volunteer - it's reasonably simple, I just haven't had time
lately - head up an email to the r5u870-list mailing list (sign up @
http://lists.mediati.org/).

*Technically*, this bug is NOTGNOME. However, it might be worth looking into
providing users with the option of forcibly enabling the use of the webcam even
if it wasn't detected via HAL; so I'm leaving the bug open for now. It might be
worth opening a new bug for a feature request for something similar."

It sounds that it's something that will be fixed in a future release or
the driver.

[Bug 231712] [NEW] VLC doesn't show fullscreen video on right screen

2008-05-18 Thread nire
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vlc

I have two screens connected to my laptop. The additional monitor is set up as
an secondary screen to the right of the primary.
When I drag vlc from my primary to my secondary screen and switch to fullscreen
mode, the vlc window stays at the secondary screen but the fullscreen video is
still played on the primary screen.

Is this a bug? I searched for some settings but I didn't found anything.

[Bug 231693] [NEW] Dual screens setup ruins screen resolution

2008-05-18 Thread nire
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: displayconfig-gtk

I have a laptop with a monitor which has a resolution of 1440x900.
Today I connected an additional monitor to use as a secondary monitor to the
right of my primary.
I set this up in displayconfig-gtk by enabling the secondary screen and set the
proper resolution and so on.
But after I saved and restarted X my primary screen, which settings I haven't
touched, runs in 640x480 instead of 1440x900. The secondary screen works as
expected.

I managed to get it to work but it required some modifications of the xorg.conf.
This is the settings of my primary screen with the displayconfig-gtk settings:

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Configured Monitor"
Vendorname "Plug 'n' Play"
Modelname "Plug 'n' Play"
  modeline "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" 25.2 640 656 752 800 480 490 492 525 -vsync
-hsync
Gamma 1.0
EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Default Screen"
Monitor "Configured Monitor"
Device "Configured Video Device"
Defaultdepth24
SubSection "Display"
Depth 24
Virtual 640 480
Modes "[EMAIL PROTECTED]"
EndSubSection
EndSection

To get the primary screen to work in the right resolution I replaced the
"Monitor" and "Screen" settings with the settings from my old xorg.conf:

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Configured Monitor"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Default Screen"
Monitor "Configured Monitor"
Device "Configured Video Device"
Defaultdepth24
EndSection

displayconfig-gtk seems to add some lines that makes my screen unusable.

[Bug 206163] Re: cheese doesn't detect internal Hp Pavilion webcam

2008-04-19 Thread nire
I can confirm this and I think that it's important to fix this because the cam,
and it's similar versions, is common on laptops from HP and Sony.
The driver supporting this cam (and it's relatives) is the Ricoh r5u870 and can
be found at http://wiki.mediati.org/R5u870

I'm using cheese version:
2.22.1-0ubuntu1

I have this cam:
Bus 005 Device 003: ID 05ca:1810 Ricoh Co., Ltd

When I start cheese from the terminal I get no output at all except when I run
it in debug-level 3.
The webcam is properly installed and is detected and working in aMSN.

[Bug 199870] Re: VLC doesn't pause when a video file is played with external subtitles

2008-03-29 Thread nire
I can confirm this. I'm using VLC 0.8.6e and Hardy Beta.
When paused, the video continues but the subtitles shown don't disappear. New
subtitles are shown above older ones.

[Bug 208552] [NEW] Poor performance in smbclient while transmitting

2008-03-28 Thread nire
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: smbclient

Hi,
I'm experiencing quite poor performance over smb with my laptop running Ubuntu
8.04 Beta.
The problem occurs when I'm sending files from my laptop to a samba server. I
have a wired 100 Mb/s connection between the two PC's, but I'm only able to
send in <30 Mb/s. The recieving speed is not good either but it's much better
than transmitting.
The server is running Ubuntu Server 7.10. The client is running Vista and
Ubuntu 8.04.

Server: Samba 3.0.24-2ubuntu1.5
Client: smbclient 3.0.28a-1ubuntu1 and smbclient 3.0.28a-1ubuntu3

Everything have default configurations.

My testresults:

Client (Ubuntu 8.04) -> Server   Never above 3,7 MB/s, 29,6 Mb/s
Client (Vista) -> Server   ~12 MB/s, ~96 Mb/s

Client (Ubuntu 8.04) <- Server Never above 8 MB/s, 64 Mb/s

Over HTTP:
Client (Ubuntu 8.04) <- Server ~ 12 MB/s, ~96 Mb/s

** Affects: samba (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

"I suspect
that connecting the external drive changes the
way grub sees the drives, and so you see this error."

Can I confirm this by doing something? Check the hard disk names with
and without the USB HDD?

[Bug 208361] [NEW] Grub gives error 17 when removable device is connected at boot

2008-03-28 Thread nire
Public bug reported:

When I start the computer with my external hard disk or USB drive GRUB
gives me this error:

GRUB Loading stage1,5
Grub Loading, please wait...
Error 17

I must disconnect all removable devices to get GRUB to boot proberly.

My partitions:

Sda (1 and 2) Vista partitions
Sdb (1 to 3) Ubuntu partitions

Vista is installed before Ubuntu and GRUB is as far as I know installed
in the MBR of Sda, replacing the Vista NTLDR.

A strange thing is that when I choose to restart the computer, it boots
proberly.
If I instead choose to shut down the computer and then start it again, it gives
me the error 17.

I'm currently running the 8.04 Beta but the error 17 occurred in 7.10
too.
