[Bug 345119] Re: [i965 X3100] X freezes randomly, only mouse pointer still functional

2009-06-18 Thread nloewen
I'm experiencing this bug too. It's freezing with and without effects,
exa uxa and xaa, it froze durring a login, it realy is random the
underlying system seems to work because hard drive activity continues,
music continues to play etc. caps lock light won't come on during a lock
up though. Are there any workarounds discovered? the previous posts seem
discouraging.

I am currently using to emergency sync mounted drives
and to kill all process and shut down as the keyboard
short cuts that call the kernel still function.

[Bug 324180] Re: internet_test crashed with UnboundLocalError in _get_default_gateway_from_bin_route()

2009-02-03 Thread nloewen
It seems to be stable now. I don't know if its because of updates or if
it was a one time deal. I was running the "system testing" utility in
system -> administration for the first time. When I pushed the next
button to start the test, the screen changed so that there was only
"checking for Internet connection" and it went to the next test. I
realized the Internet card wasn't connected so I hooked it up and went
back to the previous screen to restart. this time it crashed. My
wireless was in the process of connecting so that could be why.

[Bug 326008] [NEW] screen does not redraw properly

2009-02-05 Thread nloewen
Public bug reported:

distro: ubuntu jaunty jackalople 9.04
When having multiple windows open, sometimes the screen does not redraw
properly. The more windows you have open the more likely this is to happen.
When this has happened, it either effects one window, the desktop or multiple
windows and the desktop. If it effects only one window you can fix it by
switching workspaces, moving the window, minimizing and maximizing it switching
to another window and switching back. None of these is a for sure fix, and you
may have to try multiple ones in order for it to be usable again. When it
effects the desktop, you are out of luck and have to wait for it to redraw by
itself. A screen shot of the desktop and firefox being effected is attached.

I don't know which package is causing the problem.

[Bug 147756] Re: [Gutsy] Possible memory leak in trackerd

2009-04-13 Thread nloewen
Tracker seems to be doing something similar in Jaunty. It is using all
available cpu when paused. It doesn't affect system performance because
it has a nice of 19 but it is annoying because it affects battery life
and makes my laptop very hot. It seems to be stuck on a folder. it is
always done 7949 of 7953 with 2 seconds left and 1 hour 22 minutes 46
seconds left. The only thing that changes is the paused status.

willing to go back to 9.4 as this was the main reason for my

2009-04-07 Thread nloewen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: screenlets

When the screenlets sidebar is in reserved mode so that maximized
windows don't cover it, it kicks it out of the space it reserved for
itself so that the sidebar shows up beside the reserved space. other
screenlets still dock in the correct space.

fine on ubuntu, but when transfered to a windows xp computer, they seem
to be over 6 hours long. they play until you stopped recording and then
give an error message saying that the file is corrupted. if you bring
the file back to the ubuntu computer it wont even open saying that the
file is corrupted but the original still plays fine.

2009-05-20 Thread nloewen
even if we could it would not be a good solution. when using openGL in
kubuntu I get about 20 frames per second when moving a window, with
xrender it's about 10. 20 I can live with but 10 is just awful. (Yes i
have an awful graphics card). The fps for openGL is comparable to what I
got with compiz in ubuntu.

2009-05-26 Thread nloewen
Pierre Francois, try adding "Option "AccelMethod" "XAA"" to
your xorg config under Configured video device. It fixed it for me. You
can also try replaceing XAA with uxa (the experimental acceleration
method in development) which also fixed the problem. Just make sure you
know how to change it back in case something goes wrong.

get better performance and haven't been experiencing this bug. The how
to also includes a few bug fixes and updated kernel packages. Video's
now display properly first time and no longer flicker for me. I'm using
the optimal configuration. Hopefully this is helpful for anyone who is
still experiencing problems.

I don't know which package is causing the problem.

discouraging.

I am currently using to emergency sync mounted drives

2009-05-18 Thread nloewen
something interesting I noticed. This also affects the desktop effects
in kubuntu even though it doesn't use compiz. The problem occurs in
openGL but not xrender.

[Bug 326008] Re: screen does not redraw properly

2009-03-24 Thread nloewen
sorry, I haven't paid much attention to this. since This was posted, I
have reinstalled 8.10 because of this bug and can't supply the info you
need. foos screenshot is accurate with what I was experiencing. And his
hardware, drivers and kernel from Xorg.0.log is the same as mine. If
foos reports that he is no longer expirencing this bug I would be
willing to go back to 9.4 as this was the main reason for my
downgrading.

I have rockbox installed on it but that shouldn't make a difference as
it uses the original firmware for connecting and it worked in Intrepid.

[Bug 356951] Re: [i965gm] Compiz sometimes freezes X

2009-05-16 Thread nloewen
I think I got this problem. I had a complete lock up and wasn't sure
what to do so I hardbooted but now I can't even get to recovery mode. Is
there any way I can get back on to retrive crash data? (and get my
system going again)

I got my system back up. Apport didn't even come up with anything so I'm
not sure what went on.

[Bug 355998] Re: usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning

The package's from karmic seem to work, why don't we backport them?

can we patch the karmic version so both groups work? I don't really know
how this works so feel free to ignore me if my ideas don't work.
