[Bug 560243] [NEW] ATI 5970 "Unknown adapter" in Catalyst Control Center & bad performance
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg The card works great under 9.10 with Catalyst drivers installed from ATI, and under Windows. Booting off of the Lucid Lynx Beta 2 installation CD end with the screen going black and the monitors shutting off. I installed off of the alternate install CD, did a system rescue, and installed the fglrx drivers. X came on up on next reboot and I selected to "activate" the fglrx driver (which caused a crash I wasn't able to report), rebooted, and I believe I am up an running. Lucid Lynx is absolutely stunning BTW! The video performance is really bad, surprising since this is the "fastest commercially available card". Moving a windows around causes tearing. Any sort of fading results in the object flashing The Catalyst Control Center allows setting up the monitors correctly, but identifies the video card as "Unknown adapter". This may be due to the 5970 actually being 2 video cards in one? [Bug 525377] Re: Unable to use proprietary ATI drivers for Radeon 5970 in Kubuntu 10.4 Alpha 2
Tried again with Ubuntu (instead of Kubuntu this time) 10.4 Alpha 3 and Catalyst 10.1 drivers. Installation of the drivers went over fine. The error display is the same "dlopen: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/fglrx_drv.so: undefined symbol: UpdateSpriteForScreen" as reported with Kubuntu 10.4 Alpha 2. -- Unable to use proprietary ATI drivers for Radeon 5970 in Kubuntu 10.4 Alpha 2 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/525377 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 525377] [NEW] Unable to use proprietary ATI drivers for Radeon 5970 in Kubuntu 10.4 Alpha 2
Public bug reported: Using ATI Catalist x64 version 10.2 proprietary drivers fails with the primary indicator "dlopen: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/fglrx_drv.so: undefined symbol: UpdateSpriteForScreen". The 10.1 drivers produce the same error as well. The card works reliably with the opensource driver as well as in Windows. The kernel appears to load the proprietary Catalist driver (see syslog below).
