[Bug 188639] Re: laptop will not sleep after idle time
Sorry, I didn't actually mean to hit that button (that set it as a bug in gnome-power). I do believe that I'm experiencing this problem as well, however. When on AC the computer will sleep after 2 minutes, but on battery it never sleeps. Looking through gconf, I saw that /apps /gnome-power-manager/actions/sleep_type_battery is set to 'nothing' instead of 'suspend'. Setting it to suspend caused the computer to sleep after 2 minutes idle. I'm not sure why it doesn't get set to suspend when you change the time on the slider in gnome-power-manager, as you would expect. -- laptop will not sleep after idle time https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/188639 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

When I booted from the live cd there was no hibernate option, so I'm not sure how accurate this is, but performing the same steps above, the laptop (an IBM T23) wouldn't suspend on battery, but would on AC. A very quick web search makes it look like hibernate may not be supported from a live cd? [Bug 136871] Re: Idle/inactive action/autosuspend results in a suspend AND a hibernate
Yes, this particular problem has been resolved in hardy (mostly). On AC power the laptop goes to sleep and wakes properly after two minutes. On battery it does nothing. However, it seems that in gconf the key /apps /gnome-power-manager/actions/sleep_type_battery is set to 'disabled' instead of 'suspend'. Changing it to 'suspend' allows it to sleep and wake properly after two minutes. [Bug 141620] Re: Cannot connect to a WPA enabled network with NetworkManager and Prisim 2.5 chipset
I assume that the wiki page meant tail -f -n0 /var/log/syslog > /tmp/syslog, rather than tail -n0 /var/log/syslog > /tmp/syslog, which outputs nothing. Happily (or I guess unfortunately, depending on how you look at it) I wasn't able to replicate the crash. However there is still a bug. When I first tried to connect to the network, I was asked for a WEP key like before. I hit cancel and it didn't connect. So I selected manual connection, specified the essid and the WPA key. Network manager connected, but then disconnected a few seconds later. I then tried selecting the network again (from the list, not manually). This time I wasn't asked the key, but it did connect to the network and seems to be staying connected. I tried rebooting to see if it would connect again after I logged in and it did. So it seems the problem is rather that I'm not given the option to select WPA encryption when I fist connect, but then if I manually specify it I am able to connect, on the second try. I tried to mark out in the log where I tried to connect, like requested in the wiki. ** Attachment added: "syslog" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/9527730/syslog -- Cannot connect to a WPA enabled network with NetworkManager and Prisim 2.5 chipset https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/141620 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager This is a problem that I just started having in the past few days. Whenever gnome-power-manager goes to put the computer to sleep, it actually hibernates instead of sleeping. What's worse is that when I turn the laptop back on and log back in, after a few seconds it goes to sleep! Suffice it to say this is rather annoying. When I select suspend under the shutdown->quit menu, it suspends as normal, as well as when I press the Fn+F4 (sleep) combination on the keyboard. This is again on an IBM T23 laptop running gutsy. [Bug 103020] Re: Cannot connect to wireless network with NetworkManager
Well, after much difficulty, I was able to upgrade the firmware to 1.7.4. Unfortunately, now feisty doesn't recognize the wireless card at all. However, dapper does, with the orinoco_pci driver, and what's more is that NetworkManager actually works now. So the new firmware seems to work, but for whatever reason it's not recognized in feisty. Incidentally, is there some trick to get prism2_srec to work with the newer kernels? When I tried using it to flash the wireless card, it kept complaining about PRISM2_DOWNLOAD_SUPPORT not being defined in hostap_config.h. I installed the kernel source, and it seems that it's defined by default. PRISM2_NON_VOLATILE_DOWNLOAD needs to be defined as well, which is controlled by CONFIG_HOSTAP_FIRMWARE_NVRAM, which is one of the kernel configuration options, which also seems to be defined by default. Since it didn't work, I tried defining PRISM2_NON_VOLATILE_DOWNLOAD explicitly (outside the if) and compiling the kernel, but that still didn't work. What I ended up doing was installing an old version of debian with the 2.6.8 kernel, compiling the hostap-source package, and then was able to download the firmware with prism2_srec. Needless to say, this is a pain, so I'm just wondering if anyone knows the trick to get this to work, or if there's a bug somewhere or what. ** Attachment added: "Most recent dmesg.log (wireless card not recognized)" http://librarian.launchpad.net/7336866/dmesg.log -- Cannot connect to wireless network with NetworkManager https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/103020 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 103020] Re: Cannot connect to wireless network with NetworkManager
I'm not sure what you mean by scanning. If you mean being able to see the available networks around me, that works fine. The problem is that I can't seem to connect to any of them, except via the command line. That being said, 1.4.2 is the last version provided by IBM (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-40236.html). To be honest, the idea of putting firmware from a different vendor scares the heck out of me, since such things can turn previously working hardware into a brick. That being said. it seems the A30/p, A31/p, T23, X22, X23, and X24 all use the same firmware, and people with these other models have had success, so I think I'll give it a try. I should mention though that the wireless used to work fine under windows, with this firmware, though who knows what they were doing differently to work around whatever bug (assuming it's a bug) there was in the firmware. That's a pretty big list of models though, and I'm not sure how many of them would be willing to install random firmwares to get their wireless to work. It does work in certain cases, after all. I'll give the upgrade a shot though, and report back what changes there are, if any. -- Cannot connect to wireless network with NetworkManager https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/103020 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager Hi, I have an IBM Thinkpad T23 with a IBM High Rate Wireless LAN Mini- PCI Adapter with Modem (Prism 2.5 chipset). In feisty, using the NetworkManager applet in gnome, I am unable to connect to any wireless network, secured or unsecured. The networks are listed, but I am unable to connect to any of them. I also cannot connect using the Static configuration option (which is just the network-admin program). However, after selecting my network, (or setting the essid with iwconfig) and typing sudo dhclient I am able to get an address through DHCP and connect to the network. When I connect this way, the status of the NetworkManager applet does not change (eg, it says "No network connection"). The results are the same if I use the hostap driver or the orinoco_pci driver. I should note that NetworkManager does not work for me in dapper either (it does more or less the same thing). I should also note that in feisty, there are two devices listed for the wireless card, wifi0 and wlan1, whereas in dapper there is only eth1 for the wireless card (I think this is just some change in the kernel though, apparently one is just the control interface, and the other is the actual wlan interface, or something). I don't think it's a kernel issue though, seeing as I can connect manually through the command line. [Bug 103020] Re: Cannot connect to wireless network with NetworkManager
Here is a copy of the system log from when I selected my wireless network (nynexman) to when the icon went back to the "no connection" state. ** Attachment added: "Syslog from connection attempt." http://librarian.launchpad.net/7146381/nm.txt -- Cannot connect to wireless network with NetworkManager https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/103020 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
