[Bug 997470] Re: apport-gpu-error-intel.py keep crashing for 4-5 times on every reboot

2012-10-08 Thread oldmankit
I've just read through all the comments and can't see that there's a
fix. If it's there but I missed it, please point it out.

I've been using Precise since it was released and have been hoping that
this bug would be fixed through an update. No luck. I now am actively
looking, but it seems like there is not fix. This obviously affects a
lot of people. What can we do to speed a fix?

[Bug 993736] [NEW] 1.2.8 broken with new ubuntu release

2012-05-02 Thread oldmankit
Public bug reported:

I just did a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04, Precise Pangolin.

The application won't run. I get the following output to my terminal:

`Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/anki", line 8, in
ankiqt.run()
  File "/usr/share/anki/ankiqt/__init__.py", line 78, in run

  File "/usr/share/anki/ankiqt/config.py", line 10, in

from anki.db import *
  File "/usr/share/anki/anki/db.py", line 33, in
from sqlalchemy.exceptions import DBAPIError, OperationalError
ImportError: No module named exceptions`

I downloaded version 1.2.8 of Anki from the website.

Any pointers getting it to work again are appreciated.

[Bug 799168] Re: card reader not being recognized in lenovo g470

2012-04-03 Thread oldmankit
I forgot to confirm that it was fixed (a long time ago) by a kernel
update.

I'm really grateful for the fix; it makes my life a lot easier!

2011-09-28 Thread oldmankit
I believe I may have found a fix for my computer (closing the lid
doesn't crash any more, and I haven't had any X crashes since doing
this):

`sudo  add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates
sudo  apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade`

I have been having this problem since I bought a new laptop. Switching
to unity-2d has removed all crashes, however, I would like to go back to
3d if I can.

[Bug 799168] Re: card reader not being recognized in lenovo g470

2011-09-19 Thread oldmankit
I'm a photographer and would really like this to work! I can't be
cranking-up windows every time I need to transfer photos.

I have tried this in both 32- and 64-bit Natty. Not working.

Is there anything I can do/provide to help this get fixed?

[Bug 521932] Re: Remove dependencies from TeXLive or offer dummy packages?

2011-08-30 Thread oldmankit
This applies to me too.

I installed lyx successfully with "sudo apt-get install --no-install-
recommends lyx". Great, but it's complaining it can't find document
classes. Latex is working fine on my system.

How do I get lyx to recognise the working latex installation? I've
already done tools->reconfigure.

[Bug 524281] Re: Tens of wakes per second in "[kernel scheduler] Load balancing tick" on Core 2 Duo even with only 1 core enabled

2011-05-17 Thread oldmankit
That script looks useful, thanks for posting it.

I've all turned round on the subject. I ran Ubuntu Classic (no effects)
and ran powertop with no apps running. It was significantly better than
in Ubuntu 10.10. It was actually really good. The red bar in powertop
that shows wakeups-from-idle per second, well I found out it is not
always red! It was orange for the first time.

I'll just avoid using Unity, which givers my processor a hard time
anyway.

[Bug 737538] Re: Alt+F2 xkill does nothing

2011-05-13 Thread oldmankit
It doesn't work for me either.

If I typed xkill then enter in a terminal, it works.

If I type alt+f2 xkill enter nothing happens. Clicking doesn't help.

2011-05-11 Thread oldmankit
My two cents is that I was waiting for Ubuntu Natty for a newer kernel
and therefore better performance, but I appear to have more wakeups and
less battery life than before.

@Gurmeet

It all sounds very positive. For those of us that don't want to get
their fingers dirty playing around with different kernel versions, there
will be a lot of satisfaction when this fix finds itself into the
official repos!

[Bug 267999] Re: Some times Caps Lock works inverted

2009-12-21 Thread oldmankit
I'm running Ubuntu Karmic. I use caps lock to toggle between US and Thai
keyboard layouts. Sometimes it would bizarrely change so that anything
I typed in English was in capitals...with obviously no way to switch
back to non capitals, as caps lock just switched to Thai layout.

Through random bashing of my keyboard in gedit, I found the magic
combination:

SHIFT+CAPS LOCK
