[Bug 949071] Re: CRT monitor refresh setting always resets to 60 after reboot

2012-07-29 Thread orange2k
Somehow the bug is solved now. Probably with the yesterdays xorg update.
The monitor is now at the proper resolution at startup, and I don't have
to use the workaround from comment 9

#9 workaround works for me, too...

Seems that the developers have forgotten about people with CRT
monitors...

This problem should have been resolved long ago, IMHO...

[Bug 140734] Re: Gutsy tribe 5 no splash or progress bar with LiveCD

2008-02-10 Thread orange2k
I don`t have the same hardware since my bug report, so I cant test it under the
same circumstances.
Now I have a 64-bit Gutsy final and a nvidia geforce 8500 GT card, the usplash
is completely absent, but the workaround I posted in bug 150930 fixes the
problem.

Gutsy final and Hardy alpha 4 (I tried Ubuntu and Kubuntu) LiveCDs have
the same issue, and I can`t get the usplash with any of the available
resolution options.

I am a little confused with all these bug reports because I only know
about the symptoms and dont know what package it relates to - if its
Ubiquity, Usplash or something else, so Im sorry that I posted yet
another duplicate bug report...

yes it does duplicate, however this bug seems to me as the duplicate of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/usplash/+bug/147623
and there are some workarounds similair to my solutions to bug

[Bug 150930] Re: Black screen, and bad usplash.conf

2008-01-18 Thread orange2k
Yesterday I downloaded Hardy 64-bit, and today I tried it. It still boots with
no splash and no progress bar, so it looks like this problem hasn`t been fixed,
yet.
Hardy (LiveCD) has (on my system) also another bug with display: when I set it
to 1280x1024 resolution - 85 Hz, it switches to 84Hz (!) but thats another
story and it probably doesnt belong here...

[Bug 150930] Re: Black screen, and bad usplash.conf

2007-10-24 Thread orange2k
Malaeum, I think that setting to 1280x1024 16-bit may be a bit too much,
(I`ve set it later on to 1024x768) so you could try with some lower
resolution in the StartupManager. With 1280x1024 the splash is too
small, and besides, with that resolution, I couldn`t get the Fingerpring
usplash to show up...

The main problem for this bug to happen in the first place, seems to me,
was the developers decision to exclude some drivers (?) that were
present in Feisty on boot-up - somebody on kubuntuforums has noticed the
difference and found the way to get them back in the mentioned fix...

I`m glad it works for some people...

[Bug 150930] Re: Black screen, and bad usplash.conf

2007-10-24 Thread orange2k
I`ve tried every solution offered so far, with no luck. But I found a post on
kubuntuforums that solved my problem.
BTW. I have a Samsung Syncmaster 757 NF, Geforce 8500 GT, Athlon 64-bit X2
4400, 1 GB RAM...

Here is the solution I`ve found:

(before I did what follows, I used StartupManager to set the boot-splash
resolution to 1280x1024 16-bit)

edit /etc/initramfs-tools/modules
add the following

* vga16fb
* fbcon
* vesafb

edit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-framebuffer
comment out the following (prefix with #)

* blacklist vesafb
* blacklist vga16fb

last but not least, run the following in a terminal

* sudo update-initramfs -u

Finally, it works...
Cheers...

[Bug 140734] Re: Gutsy tribe 5 no splash or progress bar with LiveCD

2007-09-18 Thread orange2k
** Description changed:

- When I load the LiveCD and in the initial menu after pressing F4 choose
anything else except VGA, and then choose to run the CD, the screen goes blank
- but the monitor doesnt seem to loose the signal (it only goes black) - no
splash, no progress bar untill x starts. If I leave the default option VGA,
then the splash appears, so does the progress bar, but at a low resolution AND
the progress bar is off centre (moved to the right). I have a Nvidia MX4000
128MB RAM, Samsung Syncmaster 757NF.
