[Bug 475426] Re: atk_object_set_name: assertion `name != NULL' failed
After compliation installation of Qt 4.6.1 on my system (Ubuntu Karmic), I am noting same bug with various Qt Developer GUI - Tools like assistant, linguist, designer. Eg : $ assistant ** (unknown:24424): CRITICAL **: atk_object_set_name: assertion `name != NULL' failed According to following discussion thread on nokia forum for Qt. http://www.forum.nokia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=189084 The problem for Qt Toolkit seems to be GTK-style. If I run same application with different style the error does not appear. Eg : $ assistant -style plastique --- More astonishing is the fact that if I switch to Karmic repository version of Qt ( i.e 4.5.2), The critical error message disappears. -- atk_object_set_name: assertion `name != NULL' failed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/475426 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 301327] Re: Please Update/pack the jabref 2.4 branch in intrepid
I had checked the src before making package it had all that was needed jgoodies other libraries. I am not aware of policy process but this is as I said Hack, for someone who wants to use it. I do understand packaging all those libraries with JabREf is not the right way to do it , as this libraries are probably only used and not maintained by JabRef. I had ubuntu in mind when I made the package, since I used previous source from ubuntu repository to understand the packaging logistics. [Bug 301327] Re: Please Update/pack the jabref 2.4 branch in intrepid
JabRef Package Hack. I have not applied patches from SF for version 2.4.2. The package can be installed on Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10 (arch-i686). The MySQL export will not be functional, please check bug reports on SourceForge. [Bug 365716] [NEW] package texlive-base-bin 2007.dfsg.2-3ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess pre-installation script returned error exit status 1
Public bug reported: I am currently using Ubuntu 8.10. I have certain upgrade problems due to version locked TexLive Packages 1) I am not updraging any of the TexLive packages from Ubuntu Repositories , since I want to keep using my current installation 2) For this prupose I have explicitly locked TeXLive related packes by installation commands like aptitude install texlive-common= 3) Also TexLive related packages are locked in Synaptic. 4) But Update Manager keeps showing me this packages as Upgradable on my desktop panel all the time. 5) Last night when I wanted to install some of the security updates for Firefox 3.0. I had deseclected all the Texlive packages which Update manager keeps showing, but even than it tried to acces those version locked packages and showed me error message. Hence cancelled the update. I hope Ubuntu team will be able to find the problem. Thank you. More importantly I had cancelled Jaunty 9.04 OS Upgrade , because of ATI card proprietry driver fglrx not present. I need to wait some time, the last free driver was giving me some strange flickering on top of screen before showing logging screen for Ubuntu, once I installed proprietry driver problem was solved. [Bug 105191] Re: restarting xserver (or switching back to ctrl+alt+F7 from ctrl+alt+F1-6) hangs/crashes/freezes system with fglrx
I wish I could give more insight on similar problem related to system- boot. I actually never trust linux distros though I like working on linux box because they are all peices joined together which somehow work and work well most of the time but not always. This is the only thing why I have to rely on windows, because after upgrading system I am never sure it will work like before atleast, although normal expectation should be work better. On my Dell notebook, Ubuntu Drapper works like charm, with old fglrx and older version of xorg. I have absolutely no complains about it. so I decided to upgrade stepwise, I never do mistake of trusting linux upgrades. I upgraded drapper to edgy and edgy to feisty , pretty normal process. I will just give boot times Drapper - 40- 50 secs and Feisty 210-230 secs. Well that is not all Drapper shows actually what it is doing on boot starting services all those OK and failed appearing in appropirate place, progress nicely moving. Feisty is absolute trouble, it make me wait more almost 3 and half mins on a BLANK BLACK SCREEN !!! No progressbar , no beautiful ubuntu logo. Even windows odes not do such traversary atleast it show blue screen with some jibbrish and you know better format and reinstal. How come normally user is suppose to know , wait for nearly four minutes on Black Screen like your PC is dead and than Ubuntu will start working. And the reason , Xorg's latest version does not support ATI Drivers properly , how the hail did previously work?? Since it was working what was the need to touch it, just to break it? DannyW do you see a black screen? I think your system is not crashing just wait for neraly 4 mins and Xorg will probably start. -- restarting xserver (or switching back to ctrl+alt+F7 from ctrl+alt+F1-6) hangs/crashes/freezes system with fglrx https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/105191 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

All that I expect for peoples trust in Ubuntu is it should work best possible out of box. I am programmer, I can look around for solution and see what will work and what not. I am talking about people, who are not nerds and not programmer they like their upgrades to work normally , Ubuntu community cannot blame ATI everytime, something with graphics breaks. Most of the people are also unaware what is a graphic card? Do you think them being enough careful weather to buy ATI or nVidia or GeForce.
