Using Audacity (2.3.3) I noticed the HDMI output was available and does work. [Bug 1878507] [NEW] No HDMI audio in ubuntu 20.04
Public bug reported: Sound settings does not offer hdmi audio in 20.04, but was there in 16 and 18 LTSs. New HDMI monitor is fine but no audio. Reboot to Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS (16.04) {linux /boot/vmlinuz-4.4.0-24-generic} and all is well.
