with:

from another installation
and re run do-release-upgrade -d

The update process has started successfully.
I don’t understand what could have changed the file
/usr/share/distro-info/ubuntu.csv

[Bug 2058931] Re: Please update grub 1.12-rc to 1.12 to fix critical bug with zfs - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/2041739

2024-03-25 Thread Pavel Sieder
I installed pure zfs installation of Ubuntu 23.10 by installer and my system
was unable to boot 10 minutes after installation.
When I create zfs snapshot on bpool dataset, grub will stop to see this dataset
and system will not start.

In grub 1.12 it loolks like fixed, but ubuntu 23.10 is still using broken
1.12-rc.

Steps to reproduce:

1) Install Ubuntu 23.10 with zfs.
2) Create any snapshot on bpool dataset eg `zfs snap -r bpool@hello`.
3) Next reboot will failure.

[Bug 2056548] Re: fwupd metadata bug due to outdated version in Ubuntu 22.04 repositories

2024-03-09 Thread Pavel Malyshev
fwupd GitHub page states: "Installing fwupd using Snap or using Flatpak
might be useful to update a specific device on the command line that
needs a bleeding edge fwupd version, but it should not be considered as
a replacement to the distro-provided system version."

fwupd snap does not have any timers to download or update firmware.
I can't consider fwupd snap to be a replacement for fwupd deb package.

[Bug 2056548] Re: fwupd metadata bug due to outdated version in Ubuntu 22.04 repositories

2024-03-09 Thread Pavel Malyshev
Using fwupd from snap doesn't sound like a solution, more of a manual
workaround.

People out there won't notice fwupd silently fails to update their
firmware (currently it says "Not compatible with org.freedesktop.fwupd
version 1.7.9, requires >= 1.9.1"). Which is likely to end up with an
unpatched vulnerability in some firmware during 22.04 lifetime.

Also fwupd from snap is not maintained by Canonical, so it doesn't
follow all the policies (including security) Canonical software follows.

[Bug 1975799] [NEW] SRU for FastNetMon package

2022-05-26 Thread Pavel Odintsov
Public bug reported:

Hello!

I'm Pavel Odintsov, author of FastNetMon tool: https://github.com/pavel-
odintsov/fastnetmon/

I would like to kindly ask SRU for our package "fastnetmon".

FastNetMon is a part of Debian unstable
https://packages.debian.org/sid/fastnetmon and we have active Debian
backport for Debian 11 Bullseye.

Previous versions of FastNetMon (1.1.3 and 1.1.4) were a part of Ubuntu
Bionic and Ubuntu Focal: https://packages.ubuntu.com/bionic/fastnetmon

After that due to multiple FTBFS issues our project was kicked out from
Debian and we did not make it in stable Ubuntu LTS distribution which is
the main distribution for us and most popular one among our customer
base.

We did extensive work with out Debian maintainer and we addressed all
FTBFS issues and improved our integration with Debian and upgraded
FastNetMon to latests version 1.2.1 in Debian.

After that I can see that we made it to Kinetic:
https://packages.ubuntu.com/kinetic/fastnetmon

May I kindly ask to re-add FastNetMon package for Ubuntu 22.04?

Below you can find SRU bug template filled as requested.

[Impact]

 * Our users with Ubuntu LTS have no access to latest version of package
and use very outdated version inherited from their installation during
Ubuntu Focal and Ubuntu Bionic times

 * Previous versions of FastNetMon (before 1.1.5) use very old and
security risky parsers for Netflow and sFlow protocols. We completely
rewrote them (https://github.com/pavel-
odintsov/fastnetmon/blob/master/src/libsflow/libsflow.cpp and
https://github.com/pavel-
odintsov/fastnetmon/commit/7f214ccd2a025bebe32f90b158a541dd90ef2fbf) in
releases starting from 1.1.5 using best security practices with solid
test coverage.

 * Missing IPv6 support in old version which exposes network to attacks
which involve this protocol

 * New algorithms required to detect modern DDoS attacks are missing in
old versions

 * To address lack of FastNetMon in official Ubuntu repositories we
offer our own packages to customers from third party repositories which
do not offer all benefits of official Ubuntu's repositories and we
consider it only as temporary solution.

[Test Plan]

 * Our stable release 1.2.1 is based on long battle tested 1.2.0 which
has more then 1000 active installation and we're not aware about any
critical issues in this release.

[Where problems could occur]

 * We expect potential issues with dependencies but we did extensive
testing with Debian 11 during work on backports package.

 * To reduce risk of potential dependency issues we decided to drop
multiple features in our product which relied on software which was
known to cause such issues (nDPI, Netmap and PF_RING). Instead, we moved
on capabilities available in native Linux kernel such as AF_PACKET which
offers great support on all wide range of platforms.

[Other Info]

 * We will ba happy to assist Ubuntu security teams in case of any
security issues with our product.

Let me know if you need more information.

Thank you for your time.

2022-04-16 Thread Petr 'PePa' Pavel
I never need to open a new tab (blank or from a link) at the end of the
tab panel. Also, I don't have a middle button. So I'd appreciate a
configuration option that would make the "open next to current"
behaviour default.

[Bug 1956447] [NEW] "No DNS servers known" in /run/systemd/resolve/resolv.conf

2022-01-05 Thread Pavel Derendyaev
Public bug reported:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System ->
About Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS
Release:20.04

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname' or
by checking in Software Center
systemd:
  Installed: 245.4-4ubuntu3.13
  Candidate: 245.4-4ubuntu3.13

3) What you expected to happen

/etc/network/interfaces:

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
dns-nameservers 1.1.1.1 8.8.8.8

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address ip/24
mtu 1500
post-up route add default gw gw_ip || true
pre-down route del default gw gw_ip || true

When system rebooted I expected in

/run/resolvconf/resolv.conf:
nameserver 1.1.1.1
nameserver 8.8.8.8
nameserver 127.0.0.53

and in /run/systemd/resolve/resolv.conf:
nameserver 1.1.1.1
nameserver 8.8.8.8

This is stated in "man 8 systemd-resolved":
systemd-resolved maintains the /run/systemd/resolve/resolv.conf file for
compatibility with traditional Linux programs

4) What happened instead

/run/systemd/resolve/resolv.conf:
# No DNS servers known.

But after restarting systemd-resolved it update this file correctly.

5) Also

The system behaves correctly when DHCP is used. So when in
/etc/network/interfaces:
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

Then /run/systemd/resolve/resolv.conf updated correctly straight without
restart.

[Bug 1955981] [NEW] pieces of text not printed at all

2021-12-29 Thread pavel heimlich
Public bug reported:

When I try to print the pdf from
https://ukestuff.files.wordpress.com/2021/12/beginners-guide-to-playing-chord-melodies.pdf
some pages are not printed correctly, some pieces of text are completely
missing from the page - some are just blank, some look like deleted (the text
that follows is shifted left).

I can reproduce this with evince and atril. The pdf prints fine from okular and
firefox.
This is happening with pages 13 and onward of this file, even when trying to
print them one by one.

E.g. in the attached photo, left is page 14 printed from evince, right
is printed from okular. Note the missing letters TAB, missing note
numbers, missing pause character on line 3 and deleted song name before
the words 'was a 1957 hit'.

atril 1.24.0 (Using poppler/cairo (0.86.1) and SyncTeX 1.21)
evince 3.36.10
okular 1.9.3
Firefox 95.0.1
The printer is Brother HL1110.

[Bug 1946347] Re: Translations are missing

2021-10-11 Thread Pavel Borecki
Thanks for pointing to this documentation, but if understood correctly,
fwupd.mo should be part of lang-pack-* package(s), right?

But looking in (for example):

https://packages.ubuntu.com/impish/all/language-pack-cs-base/filelist
(language-pack-cs is empty package)

There is no such file as /usr/share/locale/cs/LC_MESSAGES/fwupd.mo

It seems, that translations are imported in Rosetta (Ubuntu translation system):
https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fwupd,
but not part of build process of lang-pack-* packages.

In mentioned documentation
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuDevelopment/Internationalisation/Packaging
there are no hints regarding meson build system (which upstream fwupd is using)
- maybe problem with integration there?

In any case, would it be possible to look at it please? It is really
unfortunate, that Ubuntu users are prevented to benefit from translations,
which in situation, when firmware updates are offered to inexperienced (and
non-English speakers) trough Gnome Software / KDE Discover and they don't
understand instructions, they get (and possibly will brick their devices).
Thanks for all your work on lvfs infrastructure (and growing list of
vendors/devices, you managed to onboard) and fwupd tools - greatly appreciated!
- but missing localization (which is done) is the last thing remaining to
perfection :-)

[Bug 1946347] [NEW] Translations are missing

2021-10-07 Thread Pavel Borecki
Public bug reported:

Hello,

if you compare list of files in Debian package:
https://packages.ubuntu.com/impish/amd64/fwupd/filelist

and in Ubuntu package:
https://packages.ubuntu.com/impish/amd64/fwupd/filelist

you will notice, that anything related to localization is missing, for
example:

/usr/share/locale/af/LC_MESSAGES/fwupd.mo

it seems, that localization data are not part of any other fwupd related
Ubuntu package, thus they are completely missing.

Would it be possible to bring localization (which exists for long time
and is very complete in upstream) to packaging please?

Thanks

[Bug 1934501] Re: CVE-2018-15473 patch introduce user enumeration vulnerability

2021-08-12 Thread Pavel Malyshev
Hi. I believe my Ubuntu systems just received this patch and I believe it
failed to install:

Can't exec "/tmp/openssh-server.config.neW0Pf": Permission denied at
/usr/share/perl/5.26/IPC/Open3.pm line 178.
open2: exec of /tmp/openssh-server.config.neW0Pf configure 1:7.6p1-4ubuntu0.3
failed: Permission denied at /usr/share/perl5/Debconf/ConfModule.pm line 59.
-

I think this is due to the fact I have noexec on /tmp.
Is it possible to bundle the changes in the package instead of putting a random
temporary file in /tmp and attempt to execute it?

[Bug 1903788] [NEW] pidgin-libnotify removed, but no alternative provided in Ubuntu 20.04

2020-11-10 Thread Pavel Roskin
Public bug reported:

pidgin-libnotify was removed in Ubuntu 20.04
https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?suite=all=names=pidgin-libnotify

Users are advised to install the package compiled for Ubuntu 18.04
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1232938/pidgin-missing-libnotify-plugin-on-ubuntu-20-04

As far as I can tell, no plugins with equivalent functionality are
packaged for Ubuntu 20.04.

One possible replacement is purple-libnotify-plus:
https://github.com/sardemff7/purple-libnotify-plus/

Please note that pidgin-libnotify is not just about notifications, it
allows Pidgin to be run in background. That's a significant feature
missing from Ubuntu 20.04.

Without pidgin-libnotify installed, pidgin exists when its last window
is closed. With pidgin-libnotify installed and enabled under
Tools->Plugins, pidgin remains in memory when its last window is closed
as evidenced by "ps x | grep pidgin"

I'm using up-to-date Ubuntu 20.04.1 with pidgin 1:2.13.0-2.2ubuntu4 and
pidgin-plugin-pack 2.7.0-4.

[Bug 1899147] [NEW] gnome-terminal drops display scaling on new tab creation

2020-10-09 Thread Pavel Vasilyev
Public bug reported:

In my setup I have Ubuntu 20.04 running in VirtualBox on Windows. I
connect to the Windows machine through Microsoft Remote Desktop from
Macbook Pro with Retina Display:

Mac OS Catalina -- (RDP) --> Windows 10 -- (VirtualBox) --> Ubuntu 20.04
-> gnome-terminal

Since it is retina display, Windows does rescaling. In Ubuntu I have to
go to Settings -> Display and set Scale to 200%. I had opened gnome-
terminal before, so I just press Ctrl-Shift-T to create a new tab.

After opening a new tab, the display scaling drops to a default value
which is 100%. Same can be reproduced if I run tmux session in the
gnome-terminal.

So, whenever I try to open a new tab, the display scaling restores to
100%.

Strangely enough, I have another laptop with the same setup, and I have never

[Bug 1810517] Re: re-enable GhostScript in ImageMagick

2020-04-25 Thread Pavel Zorin-Kranich
The underlying security issue has been fixed many years ago:
https://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/332928/

This workaround must be removed yesterday.

[Bug 1874588] [NEW] Flickering screen after waking up from Suspend

2020-04-23 Thread Pavel Golikov
Public bug reported:

Just did a fresh install of Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and everything was fine,
display worked perfect. Then I put the machine in Suspend mode (by
clicking on GUI button), left for 5 minutes, came back, woke up the
machine (by clicking a key on the keyboard), and upon waking up, the
display started flickering heavily.

Relevant Specs (Sorry if I missed anything):

AMD® Ryzen 9 3900x 12-core processor × 24
AMD® Radeon rx 5700 xt
GNOME version 3.36.1
Windowing System X11
I am running 3 monitors: Samsung with resolution 3840x2160 and 2 LG monitors
with resolution 1920x1080, all at 60Hz

Most of the flickering is happening on Samsung, although once in a
while, other monitors flicker a little bit as well.

Things to note: When I switch Samsung to lower resolution, the
flickering goes away. When I come back to 3840x2160, it comes back. When
I switch to lower resolution, suspend and come back, everything is fine.

If I reboot the machine, the display is fine until I suspend and wake up
again (if I am in higher resolution).

I tried changing the refresh rate of Samsung to 30.00 and 29.97 (the
only two available when I turn off FreeSync), and the issue still
persists. Turning FreeSync on and off does nothing.

Thank you,

Pavel.

[Bug 1874533] Re: package shim-signed 1.40.3+15+1533136590.3beb971-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: installed shim-signed package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2020-04-23 Thread Pavel Petrovic
Thank you for your prompt reaction.
This happened only one time on the first boot.
Also, I had issues with the booting - I have installed on the SSD in UEFI as
"something else" manually creating EFI partition 550 MB, swap 16GB and root
partition 120GB, but when booting,
the message
"system bootorder not found initializing defaults creating boot entry boot0002
with label ubuntu for file \EFI\ubuntu\shimx64.efi"
was appearing when selecting UEFI system to boot, and then freezing.
There were also two (sadly identically named) "ubuntu" entries in the bios
setup F8 boot entries list, out of which one of them sometimes worked, but not
consistently, then I have tried to fiddle with the bios settings a little bit,
finally being able to put that one of the two ubuntu entries on top of the boot
list (although this bios setup is a bit unusual, because unless something else
has also changed, it has not noticed the change of order - maybe because both
are called "ubuntu", I do not know why they are two), anyway, finally reaching
a situation that the system consistently boots without having to go through
boot menu and does not produce this bug anymore. I have reported it because it
appeared after a fresh install and the report dialog showed up.

[Bug 1872526] [NEW] dbgsym package for linux-image-4.15.0-1065-aws missing

2020-04-13 Thread Pavel Zakharov
Public bug reported:

On April 6th, a new linux-aws was released, targeting linux-
image-4.15.0-1065-aws. However it's been over a week and the linux-
image-4.15.0-1065-aws-dbgsym is still not available on

there on "bionic-proposed", but I think it should be there on "bionic-

Hi Khaled, sorry I missed the notifications. I have not tested the

top of Ubuntu bionic hwe, so as long as the patch is there, we can count
this as fixed.

[Bug 1862682] Re: iSCSI-target: Deleting a LUN hangs in the kernel

2020-03-13 Thread Pavel Zakharov
BTW, this patch has been accepted into the upstream 5.4-stable branch
and is part of the next patch-set:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git/commit/?h=linux-5.4.y=91aa9e475827c5cd5f0283f3f68c7805882823fe,

Hopefully this means it should be pulled into Ubuntu Focal, right?

[Bug 1862682] [NEW] iSCSI-target: Deleting a LUN hangs in the kernel

2020-02-10 Thread Pavel Zakharov
Public bug reported:

The issue is that deleting a LUN on the target will hang until IO is
attempted to this LUN from the initiator.

This issue was introduced when linux-image-generic-hwe-18.04 switched
from the 5.0 to the 5.3 kernel. Source package is "linux-meta-hwe". OS
is Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS.

We can see a hung task message in dmesg:
[ 1330.438613] INFO: task iscsicmd:24572 blocked for more than 120 seconds.
[ 1330.439554] Tainted: P OE 5.3.0-26-generic

(iscsicmd is a cli tool I created that is similar to targetcli)

You can find more details about this bug and the reproducer on this
linux kernel discussion thread: https://lkml.org/lkml/2020/2/7/585

A patch has been already submitted by an iSCSI-target developer,
although not yet integrated. (https://marc.info/?l=target-
devel=158134893208641=2)

Would it be possible to get this patch integrated into the linux-image-
generic-hwe-18.04 package, and if yes, then what would be the required
next steps?

[Bug 1857907] [NEW] trying to upgrade 16.04 lts to 18.04 with do-release-upgrade

2019-12-30 Thread Pavel Petrovic
Public bug reported:

This notebook machine is not running X, it was broken at some point of
time in the past with some usual nvidia mess, but otherwise it is
healthy, package manager seems to be happy and up to date with 16.04, so
an upgrade should not crash like this.

it proceeds with fetching boinc.tar.gz then makes sure system is up to
date then downloads the boinc package lists and tries to calculate the
changes twice, but reports an unresolvable problem while calculating.

/var/log/dist-upgrade/main.log says

ERROR Dist-upgrade failed: 'E:Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve
generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.'

Well, that could be the case, but it would be nice to tell more than
that. There is more info, much more in apt. log in the same place, but
it is a pitty that the package manager is not able to resolve this on
its own... Thanks.

[Bug 1854877] Re: External HDMI display not working with Intel GPU, only works with Nvidia

2019-12-08 Thread Pavel Deg
attached xorg.log.

Thanks for the explanation.
However I do think that since both Windows 10 and Ubuntu use same Nvidia
driver, and Windows can handle HDMI with Intel GPU only, then Ubuntu should be
able to do the same.
