[Bug 567412] [NEW] Regression: system cannot start with kernel 2.6.32-21

2010-04-20 Thread Pavel Borecki
Public bug reported:

After update from linux-image-2.6.32-20-generic to -21 version on Lucid
beta2, system is no longer able to boot. Maybe it is graphic card driver
related issue.

Normal operation with kernel version -20: normal splash screen with
prompt for decrypt root fs (i am using dm-crypt/luks), then GDM and etc.

Wrong operation with kernel version -21: deformed splash screen with
prompt for decrypt (see screenshot), then (after successful root fs
decrypt) computer freeze totally - screen is black (backlight is on)
keyboard is not responding (Caps, Num, Scroll lock), no harddisk
activity, etc. I must turn it of with hw power switch.

I tried to start without quiet and splash kernel boot parameters -
system froze during transition between text and graphical mode. Disable
KMS with nomodeset kernel boot parameter did not change anything.

Unfortunately, there are no records written into log files during
unsuccessful boot.

Today i upgrade my system. I use ubuntu 10.4 (lucid) with efects
(compiz). Before upgrade, graphic worked perfect (glxgears was about
5000fps) . But now, 3D rendering is slow (glxgears 2000fps). And when i
move window, that cpu go up to 100% and motion of windows is jerky. I
tried driver intel, but problem is same. Deleting xorg.conf was same,

[Bug 546117] Re: Ubuntu Lucid (on amd64, 2.6.32) crashes after first user action

2010-04-05 Thread Pavel Kukacka
** Description changed:

After logging into GNOME session, the system crashes when user generates
some activity - even the simplest one like opening a text file with
gvim. I expected to conduct my work, but instead, the system crashed in
  an unusually hard way.

- The system crashes so hard, that even numlock doesn't blink (the keyboard
doesn't work) and when the on/off button is pushed (which is the only way out),
the system shuts down, even though normally, when I push this button, the
system restarts itself.
- Another weird thing is that the screen sometimes disbands itself (?some
graphics-related issue..?), last time the screen only went blank. And the (cpu)
fan starts to work harder (is making more noise).

[Bug 546117] [NEW] Ubuntu Lucid (on amd64, 2.6.32) crashes after first user action

2010-03-24 Thread Pavel Kukacka
Public bug reported:

After logging into GNOME session, the system crashes when user generates
some activity - even the simplest one like opening a text file with
gvim. I expected to conduct my work, but instead, the system crashed in
an unusually hard way.

The system crashes so hard, that even numlock doesn't blink (the keyboard
doesn't work) and when the on/off button is pushed (which is the only way out),
the system shuts down, even though normally, when I push this button, the
system restarts itself.
Another weird thing is that the screen sometimes disbands itself (?some
graphics-related issue..?), last time the screen only went blank. And the (cpu)
fan starts to work harder (is making more noise).

Extra info:
When the user doesn't do anything after logging in, the system doesn't
crash/freeze, at least during the first five minutes.

[Bug 541834] [NEW] radeon KMS: jittery output with dual head

2010-03-19 Thread Pavel Rojtberg
Public bug reported:

using radeon KMS I get jittery/ wavy output on the external monitor(photo). It
seems like the DAC or something is not configured correctly. Booting with
nomodeset resolves this issue. So I guess it is just some quirk missing in the
kernel DRM.
Note that the logs were created while booted with nomodeset.

[Bug 119819] Re: scanimage -L crashes with HP ScanJet 4100c

2010-02-22 Thread Pavel Niedoba
My scanner cannon LIDO 50 worked perfectly in Intrepid, completely
stopped working in Jaunty. was always failing with USB communication
error. I downgraded libsane to libsane_1.0.19-23ubuntu7_amd64.deb and it
started working, but only till reboot. Now if I run it as user,
scanimage says no devices, but sane-find-scanner finds it. if I run as
root I get segmentation fault right away. Nothing bother me about ubuntu
but things which worked like charm and they stop after upgrade.

[Bug 523949] Re: the csd changes make some desktop applications hog the cpu

2010-02-22 Thread Pavel Rojtberg
there are also more issues with the csd patch:
* it draws window decorations even for boderless windows, like at the gdm login
or the eclupse splash screen
* dragging a file in nautilus results in a grey box instead of the transparent
image of the file

should I open new bugs for this, or is it fine to collect them here?

[Bug 519025] Re: Character Encoding in Evolution Exchange MAPI

2010-02-16 Thread Pavel
Confirming of persisting issue.
I am on Ubuntu 9.10 but I compiled from source evolution-mapi-0.28.2 and
gtkhtml-0.28.2. And find issue due respond on emails which has HTML format. My
default settings for message body format is set to 'Plain-Text'. After
processing through MAPI, I finding my sent message body all in chines
hieroglyphs in sent folder same as recipients do. Problem is going away if I in
respond email I am changing message format to HTML before sending it.
Looks like MAPI pars some tags in message body and missing something to
recognize proper encoding or etc.

Sometime when I respond to messages which has message body as 'Plain Text',
MAPI adds '=20' after - seams like evolution adds some tag but MAPI
recognize it as '=20' symbols.

[Bug 495687] Re: Ensure that Viewport switcher appearance matches the look and feel of the default theme(s)

2010-02-04 Thread Pavel Rojtberg
As I was using that functionality a lot I do not agree with:
"Edge flipping on move is disabled because (1) it can be triggered accidentally
and confuse users, (2) it is a bit awkward to use, and (3) it's not symmetrical
(it's disabled on the top edge because it is too easy to perform accidentally
there)"

(1) not really relevant without any numbers
(2) personal opinion? again: tests/ numbers.
(3) point, but in the default configuration ubuntu orders all desktops
horizontally ;)

so please take a closer look at this particular change

[Bug 376845] Re: Selecting channel for SyncMLClient

2010-01-04 Thread pavel
I had the same problem, thanks for your help!

For everyone:
I changed the scripts a little bit and packed them, together with the template
and awk scripts, in one archive.
You can unpack it to ~/bin/syncml/ and change the phone ID and paths (directory
you unpacked to & path to the config file you have to generate) in
"syncml-channel-update.sh".

[Bug 495661] Re: Sound playing in LTSP clients using jaunty and gnome crash after a while using any player

2009-12-11 Thread Ing. Pavel Milanes Costa
I have researched a while in launchpad and bugs
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ltsp/+bug/360355 and
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ltsp/+bug/274128 is like in
some way related to this one.

I discovered thath using local apps (see ubuntuLTSP page form localapps
in ubuntu wiki, using totem, vlc, mplayer [this need redirect the sound
out to OSS]) the sound work great, try that workaround, it's working for
me.

The other bugs mention 1 tips to investigate: is user related (so config
in user directory must be relevant?)

no luck, pulse as default not working, but see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/495661 for a workaround that
maybe work for you... the real problem still unsolved.

[Bug 495661] [NEW] Sound playing in LTSP clients using jaunty and gnome crash after a while using any player

2009-12-11 Thread Ing. Pavel Milanes Costa
Public bug reported:

I'm using the following

Software:
Description:Ubuntu 9.04
Release:9.04
Upgraded 8.10 > 9.04 jaunty release partially updated (slow link sorry), And
client chroot rebuid (/home/ remains the same)
Linux servercam 2.6.28-11-server #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 02:48:10 UTC 2009
i686 GNU/Linux
ltsp-server 5.1.65-0ubuntu2
ltsp-server-standalone 5.1.65-0ubuntu2
pulseaudio 1:0.9.14-0ubuntu20
gnome-applets 2.26.1-0ubuntu1

Hardware:
Intel S3000AHV board 32bit + Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E4500 @ 2.20GHz + 4Gb
RAM 667 Mhz (NO SOUND CARD!!!)

The sound playing is ok just after login with any media player (vlc,
totem, rythmbox, mplayer, etc) but after a while (5 to 20 minutes
randomly) the sound stop responding and the volume applet show no device
to attach to (before this ocurs it show the local sis chipset via
pulseaudio)

It seems like is a combination of ltsp sound handling + pulse + gnome?
problem.

I supposed that the sound work with any problem after the upgrade, but
it's not working as needed

If you log off the client and logon as other user problem remains, if
you reboot, problem solved after 20 minutes more it happens
again.
