[Bug 1310963] [NEW] /org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/xsettings/rgba-order suggests invalid value RGBA

2014-04-22 Thread pdknsk
Public bug reported:

Open dconf-editor and navigate to the path mentioned in the summary. It
suggests the following values.

rgba
rgb
bgr
vrgb
vbgr

The first option is invalid and should be none.

http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Specifications/XSettingsRegistry/
https://developer.gnome.org/gtk3/stable/GtkSettings.html#GtkSettings--gtk-xft-rgba

Key /com/canonical/unity-greeter/xft-rgba also shows the correct
possible values.

Another way to set.

$ dconf write /org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/xsettings/rgba-order 'rgba'
$ grep rgba (xrdb -query)
Xft.rgba: rgba

This can confuse some applications, maybe worse.

[Bug 1277888] Re: In most apps all menu items are gray / unclickable

2014-02-14 Thread pdknsk
This problem is indeed caused by installing GTK 3.10 (from 14.04 or
elsewhere).

libgtk-3-0 3.10.6-0ubuntu1~~saucy1 [origin: unknown]

This is the problematic package. Downgrade this package (and other
upgraded packages depending on it) to 13.10 packages and the problem is
fixed. I don't know if this is a problem with the package itself and
also occurs in 14.04 (unlikely) or if it's just the combination of 13.10
and some 14.04 packages.

[Bug 1277221] [NEW] graphics corruption on gtk buttons

2014-02-06 Thread pdknsk
Public bug reported:

A reliable way to reproduce is to use the file open dialog from any
application and then try to enter a directory the user doesn't have
permission to. It occurs on many other occasions as well, but for some
reason not as reliably.

I have recorded a video to show this. I couldn't make a screenshot
because the screenshot causes the button to redraw and fix itself.

This is only with 2.99.909 but not older versions. I have double
verified to make sure the driver is the culprit.

OK:

FAILS:

[Bug 1275194] [NEW] graphics corruption with super hexagon

2014-01-31 Thread pdknsk
Public bug reported:

http://superhexagon.com/

Please review the attached screenshots. As you notice, the pattern only
occurs with the HEXAGONER difficulty setting. I've attached windowed and
fullscreen screenshots to show that the width of the pattern appears to
be fixed. The same pattern also occurs between levels, when the screen
briefly flashes black.

This is on standard Ubuntu 13.10, but with xserver-xorg-video-intel
2:2.99.907-0ubuntu1 installed, for TearFree support on rotated screens.

http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/nuc/nuc-board-d34010wyb.html

I have also reported this bug on freedesktop.

PS. I have played the game previously on an AMD system, so this pattern
is definitely not part of the game. The corruption is also more
significant during gameplay, when the background is in motion.

[Bug 1232454] Re: Computer will suspend very soon because of inactivity. dialog when resuming from suspend

2014-01-18 Thread pdknsk
IMO there are three separate bugs here.

The first bug is the dialog itself. Why is there such a dialog? It's not
necessary.
The second bug is that the dialog sometimes prevents suspend from working.
And the third bug is the dialog not closing itself when the system resumes.
This is merely cosmetic but makes Ubuntu look amateurish.

The easiest solution is to completely remove the dialog.

[Bug 937200] Re: Fat fonts in Swing applications

2014-01-08 Thread pdknsk
I got the file from package openjdk-7-jre-headless and copied it to
/usr/lib/jvm/j2re1.7-oracle/lib/fontconfig.Ubuntu.properties but it
doesn't seem to make any difference.

This is the result from your file.

Font family: Ubuntu plain=** TrueType Font: Family=Ubuntu Name=Ubuntu
style=0 fileName=/usr/share/fonts/truetype/ubuntu-font-
family/Ubuntu-R.ttf bold=null italic=null bolditalic=** TrueType Font:
Family=Ubuntu Name=Ubuntu Bold Italic style=3
fileName=/usr/share/fonts/truetype/ubuntu-font-family/Ubuntu-BI.ttf

Maybe I'm wrong on Ubuntu Light rather than Ubuntu being used. I've
attached a screenshot.

[Bug 937200] Re: Fat fonts in Swing applications

2014-01-08 Thread pdknsk
Sorry, I made a mistake. The output was without fonts-uncore-core
installed. With the package the output is as follows.

Font family: Ubuntu plain=null bold=** TrueType Font: Family=Ubuntu
Name=Ubuntu Bold style=1 fileName=/usr/share/fonts/truetype/ubuntu-font-
family/Ubuntu-B.ttf italic=** TrueType Font: Family=Ubuntu Name=Ubuntu
Italic style=2 fileName=/usr/share/fonts/truetype/ubuntu-font-family
/Ubuntu-RI.ttf bolditalic=** TrueType Font: Family=Ubuntu Name=Ubuntu
Bold Italic style=3 fileName=/usr/share/fonts/truetype/ubuntu-font-
family/Ubuntu-BI.ttf

I copied fontconfig.properties to the proper location which fixed the
bold fonts.

Font family: Ubuntu plain=** TrueType Font: Family=Ubuntu Name=Ubuntu
style=0 fileName=/usr/share/fonts/truetype/ubuntu-font-
family/Ubuntu-R.ttf bold=** TrueType Font: Family=Ubuntu Name=Ubuntu
Bold style=1 fileName=/usr/share/fonts/truetype/ubuntu-font-
family/Ubuntu-B.ttf italic=** TrueType Font: Family=Ubuntu Name=Ubuntu
Italic style=2 fileName=/usr/share/fonts/truetype/ubuntu-font-family
/Ubuntu-RI.ttf bolditalic=** TrueType Font: Family=Ubuntu Name=Ubuntu
Bold Italic style=3 fileName=/usr/share/fonts/truetype/ubuntu-font-
family/Ubuntu-BI.ttf

In case someone else with Oracle Java wants to reproduce, I'm listing
simple steps.

$ apt-get download openjdk-7-jre-headless
$ dpkg-deb -x openjdk-7-jre-headless_7u25-2.3.12-4ubuntu3_i386.deb jdk
$ sudo cp jdk/etc/java-7-openjdk/fontconfig.properties
/usr/lib/jvm/j2sdk1.7-oracle/jre/lib/fontconfig.Ubuntu.properties

[Bug 1199877] Re: unity-panel-service memory leak and 100% CPU usage

2013-10-31 Thread pdknsk
I have installed the packages from saucy-proposed (and indicator-appmenu
manually). I'm fairly sure the main problem is fixed.

I have pinned a terminal running top to the top, and made some test with
Sublime Text 3.

Opening Sublime makes unity-panel-service use a full core for a good few
seconds. Accessing the menu does moderately increase CPU usage for
unity-panel-service while it is accessed. Closing the menu makes unity-
panel-service use a full core for 1-2 seconds. Same when Sublime is
closed. Switching focus back and forth between gnome-terminal and
Sublime makes unity-panel-service use a full core for 1-2 seconds.

I haven't noticed any prolonged periods of CPU usage, as was the case
before.

[Bug 1199877] Re: unity-panel-service memory leak and 100% CPU usage

2013-10-22 Thread pdknsk
I can confirm that Sublime Text 3 is a good candidate to notice this
problem. Just accessing the global menu can dramatically increases CPU
usage of unity-panel-service. Also, when Sublime Text is just started,
accessing the menu for the first time will freeze the system for 1-2
seconds, and has individual items in the menu far apart horizontally.
Maybe this graphical glitch can be a hint.

[Bug 1190686] [NEW] nautilus ignores color profiles in images

2013-06-13 Thread pdknsk
Public bug reported:

When you have an image with an embedded ICC profile, nautilus simply
discards the profile and shows the image with wrong colors. I have
noticed this in two occasions.

1. Automatically generated thumbnails in the file manager.
2. Wallpapers.

I'm not sure nautilus is responsible for the latter. I also reported is
a Unity bug.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/1187352

To reproduce this, extract both images from the attached archive. The
first picture has an embedded profile, the other was converted to the
standard sRGB color space with the profile stripped.

Open both images in a profile aware image viewer, such as eog. There is
no color difference.

Then go to the folder where you stored them, switch to icon view and let
nautilus automatically make thumbnails. Use Ctrl+ till you have maximum
thumbnail size. You will notice that the original picture with profile
is less vibrant, and green in particular is more yellowish.

[Bug 1162176] Re: /etc/X11/Xsession.d/45custom_xrandr-settings is ignored in 13.04

2013-04-04 Thread pdknsk
Hmm it does run indeed. I have deleted ~/.config/monitors.xml and it
works, with seemingly no side-effects. Thanks. I had to re-configure the
monitor in the catalyst driver settings though. It has also re-created a
new monitors.xml file with seemingly the only difference being the
monitor set as primaryno/primary.

I need this as a workaround for another bug.

[Bug 1070883] Re: Pivot causes missing single line on screen

2013-02-26 Thread pdknsk
Thanks, it works. It does also reduce the width by 1px effectively, but
it's better than a missing line in the middle of the screen.

In case anyone with the same problem wants to make this permanent.

[Bug 1070883] [NEW] Pivot causes missing single line on screen

2012-10-24 Thread pdknsk
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 12.10
Release:12.10

fglrx-amdcccle-updates 2:9.000-0ubuntu3
fglrx-updates 2:9.000-0ubuntu3

When using pivot (rotated screen), a single line exactly in the middle
of the screen is missing, which is especially noticeable with text. It's
as if the driver tries to render the contents of the screen on a canvas
which is 1px less wide than the screen, causing it to remove a single
line. When you take a window, like the browser, and move it horizontally
on the screen, this effect can be noticed very easily.

The resolution is correct though, the screen is reported as DFP1
connected 900x1600+0+0 left by xrandr.

It only occurs with fglrx, not with the open-source radeon driver.

The cursor is not affected by this problem.

I know that Ubuntu maintainers have no means to fix this (unless it's a
misconfiguration), but maybe the maintainer can report this problem to
AMD.

Please note that ubuntu-bug fglrx-installer doesn't work so I've just
attached the relevant log file.

[Bug 1068661] Re: 1002:6740 Unity does not load after installing fglrx-installer Radeon HD 6700M Series

2012-10-23 Thread pdknsk
I'm having the same problem when installing 12.10 from the AMD website.
It works fine with the fglrx and fglrx-updates package from Ubuntu
repository, and with 12.9 BETA from AMD website.

The update-alternatives warning highlighted in this bug report is
probably a red herring - the actual problem is most likely as mentioned
in the other report.

I've tried the latest beta (plus updated packages) and noticed that

[Bug 959306] Re: precise: suspend doesn't work on lenovo thinkpad x121e (regression)

2012-03-22 Thread pdknsk
I've installed 3.3 but it didn't boot.

[ 35.803405] BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at 35ee1000
[ 35.803416] IP: [f89539a4] firegl_stub_open+0x94/0x1c0 [fglrx]
[ 35.803492] *pdpt = 36ec5001 *pde =
[ 35.803499] Oops: 0002 [#1] SMP

I've uninstalled fglrx and then it worked. And suspend/resume did as
well, which made me curious to try 3.2 without fglrx. Same result,
suspend/resume works. So the problem is most likely with fglrx then.

I had fglrx installed on 11.04 though, and suspend/resume worked as
well.

I've compiled fglrx 12.2 directly from AMD and suspend/resume works now.
I needed to apply this patch though to have it compile.

[Bug 959306] Re: precise: suspend doesn't work on lenovo thinkpad x121e (regression)

2012-03-22 Thread pdknsk
** Description changed:

I've tried the latest beta (plus updated packages) and noticed that
suspend doesn't work. It still worked in 11.04, haven't tried 11.10
though. What happens is that the screen goes blank (but not off) when
entering suspend mode, and that's it. It doesn't even enter suspend
mode. I have to power the device off at this point.
