[Bug 1690085] Re: Ryzen 1800X freeze - rcu_sched detected stalls on CPUs/tasks
This is still an issue even with the bionic dailies. The easiest way (read: without recompiling kernels) I have found to get it to work is to disable IOMMU in your BIOS and add "iommu=soft" to the kernel booting options in grub. linux can then detect everything properly (all cores) and I've had zero crashes. The only issue is that it's using software IOMMU. Without these options you will either get crashes or hangs relating to the ACPI table (booting with acpi=off will only show a single core). Lots of AMD-Vi Logged events. and irq crashes. [Bug 1596989] [NEW] Non-functional due to VTK version incompatibility
Public bug reported: Invesalius is only capable of running against VTK <= 5, in particular because of the disappearance of SetInput: http://www.vtk.org/Wiki/VTK/VTK_6_Migration/Replacement_of_SetInput . But the package python-casmoothing, which invesalius needs, depends on VTK6 specifically (at least, its dependencies in the version control system specify this; I don't know whether the code would work against VTK5). Unfortunately VTK6 and VTK5, or at least their python interfaces, cannot both be installed. So there are two problems: invesalius can be installed but does not work (AttributeError: SetInput; fails to declare that it needs python-vtk < 6) and there is no combination of packages that can be installed to make it work. This is related to #1526012 but the outcome is different on Xenial. Description:Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Release:16.04 invesalius 3.0-2 python-casmoothing 0.2-1 python-vtk6 6.2.0+dfsg1-10build1 ** Affects: invesalius (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1596989 Title: Non-functional due to VTK version incompatibility To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/invesalius/+bug/1596989/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1022443] [NEW] Confusing notification messages
Public bug reported: When there are updates to apply, I get an exclamation mark on the update-notifier icon. I click on it and get a notification popup that says something like "click on the notification icon to install updates". If I click on the notification icon - the thing that had the exclamation mark - nothing happens; the popup is renewed. What I have to do is click on the notification popup itself, which then disappears (actually is replaced by a tiny one containing nothing). *Then* I can click on the notification icon to get a menu which allows me to attempt to install updates. This seems like a fairly clumsy sequence of actions, and it would be very easy to assume that, since clicking on the other does nothing, clicking on the notification had installed the updates. I am using gnome-shell. [Bug 1020931] [NEW] "Ignore further problems of this type" does not work for dconf-service
Public bug reported: Every time I log in I receive an apport notification that dconf-service has crashed. When I choose to report the crash I must re-enter my password because it's a system problem (and I'm a user with administrator privileges). Once I've done this, I'm presented with a dialog that optionally describes the information to be sent in, offers to allow me to send a report, and offers to ignore future problems of this type. Since the problem reoccurs every time, I'd like to use the last option, so I check the box and hit continue. The box disappears, but the next time I log in the same sequence of events occurs. Public bug reported: While running crawl, I get the following messages: $ crawl Lua error: /usr/share/crawl/dat/des/sprint/sprint_mu.des:11: Can't find "clua/sprint.lua" Lua error: /usr/share/crawl/dat/des/tutorial/tutorial_lesson2.des:6: Can't find "clua/tutorial.lua" Lua error: /usr/share/crawl/dat/des/portals/ziggurat.des:8: Can't find "clua/ziggurat.lua" Unable to generate level for 'Sewer'! The first three appear every time I run crawl and have no obvious negative effects. But when I advanced a character sufficiently to reach the Sewer portal level, specifically when I entered the portal, I received a large number of error messages about an inability to generate "megabat"s, and the game exited. [Bug 1009915] Re: reporting some bugs apparently does nothing
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 994921 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/994921 I do not think this is a duplicate of #994921. I *can* report bugs manually with ubuntu-bug, crash or no crash. What I think this is, is a documentation bug. Naively, since apport reported the bug, I expected it to behave as documented on the page https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Apport . Instead, it behaves as described in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ErrorTracker . If the documentation were corrected, I think the bug would be mostly fixed. I would still like to see one final notification, after the automated submission process is complete, saying at least "your crash was reported to the Ubuntu automated crash report database". If possible it would be good if this notification gave pointers to the bug page of the relevant package, so that users could see whether anyone else had experienced the same crash; ideally the page would also summarize the auto-crash reports for the package. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1009915 Title: reporting some bugs apparently does nothing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/apport/+bug/1009915/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1010745] [NEW] network-manager forgets my password when an error occurs
Public bug reported: My home wifi is slightly flaky, and stops working when there's a lightning storm or excessive traffic. It comes back after a while. But in the meantime, network-manager can still identify it but can no longer connect. What happens: For some reason network-manager decides this means the password must have changed and prompts me for a new one, forgetting the old. This does not work, of course, and it means that network-manager can't reconnect automatically when the wifi starts working again; in fact it can't even tell me whether it is working again, and it forces me to dig up the password I use. What should happen: The dialog box that comes up contains an error message. It offers "Retry", "Change Password", and "Cancel". Ideally the error message would contain some sort of information about what went wrong, perhaps including a "more information" section that lets me see detailed technical information. I realize getting this extra information can be a problem, since the network system is running as root, but at least it would be nice if network-manager did not assume that the network had changed its password, and especially if it didn't forget my old password. [Bug 1009915] [NEW] reporting some bugs apparently does nothing
Public bug reported: Every time I log in (!) apport notifies me of a crash. I click on the crash icon and an apport window opens up offering to let me become root and report a bug (I think in dconf). I do this. After a while, another window appears, allowing me to view what details I would be submitting, and offering me the choice of whether to actually report the bug, and the choice of whether to notify me if the crash reoccurs. I click the appropriate button to submit the bug. What I expect to happen: Following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Apport#What_does_it_look_like_for_users.3F , I expect a browser window to open showing a page that allows me to confirm whether my bug is a duplicate, and to add any additional information before submitting a bug report. What happens: Nothing. The window disappears and no further activity appears to occur. I have no idea whether the bug was successfully submitted, rejected because it was a duplicate, or not submitted because apport was unable to file it. I have no idea whether it's worth notifying me if the crash reoccurs, or whether it's worth my time to click on future crash notifications. This same misbehaviour occurs when (say) the GIMP crashes while I'm logged in: if I ask apport to submit the bug, nothing visible happens, so I have no idea whether it's a known bug. If I had to guess, I'd say these bugs are probably being automatically flagged as duplicates using the known-duplicates bug matching script, but without any user feedback, I can't really tell what's going on. Even if they're duplicates, pointing me to the bug they're duplicates of might help me find workarounds. The misbehaviour does *not* occur when I run "apport-bug " from a command line, which is what I did for this bug, and which behaves just as described in the documentation. If it matters, I use Chromium as my browser, but apport-bug from the command line successfully brings up the bug reporting page in a new tab in Chromium. And firefox is installed and works, in case apport is trying to use it to communicate with me. [Bug 1009902] [NEW] auto-open pdf files is impossible because of security warnings
Public bug reported: When I click on a link to a PDF file, the file downloads but a warning appears, saying "this type of file may harm your computer" and asking whether I want to keep it or remove it. If I hit "keep", which I basically always want to do since I clicked on the link in the first place, the PDF is then automatically opened in evince. What should happen: either no warning at all under these circumstances, or one warning only. Instead, even if I click the same link to the same PDF file again, I get the warning again. Upstream claims to have fixed this bug: http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=65895 In particular, they do not want to remove the warning entirely, because PDF vulnerabilities do occur, but they claim that if (a) the user has set PDFs to auto-open and (b) the user has already accepted a PDF from the given site, then the warning will not reoccur. For me, it reoccurs every time, that is, I do not see the behaviour upstream claims. [Bug 228431] Re: Crash when mouse at top of screen on 915GM
The VT switch may be a red herring - when the screen goes black I have a habit of hitting Ctrl-Alt-Fn to try to switch to a text terminal. It doesn't work when I've triggered this bug, and X is still crashed if I don't do it. My system is not configured to do anything when I hit a screen edge (apart from change the mouse cursor shape, since the window titlebar is right at the top of the screen). I'll see what I can do with the beta, but it's a bit awkward, as I have my fingers trained to avoid bumping the top or bottom of the screen and in any case the bug is intermittent, so I go weeks without triggering it. Once 8.10 is released I'll probably upgrade to it (hopefully it won't be as big a disaster as upgrading to 8.04). -- Crash when mouse at top of screen on 915GM https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/228431 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 228431] Re: Crash when mouse at top of screen on 915GM
Aha. It crashed and I got a core file. I'm afraid it's with version 2.3.1-bwh3, since I needed panel fitting. I'll try to get a core from hardy's version, but this crash appeared to be the same bug: X server dies with the mouse at the top of the screen, machine appears still to be working but console is unresponsive to everything but Control-Alt- Delete. I've also (in the past) seen it happen at the *bottom* of the screen. I'll point out that since I use vertical panels on the sides of my screen, the mouse pointer normally changes at the top and bottom of the screen; in these cases the X server dies before I see the cursor change. I'm keeping the core file in case it's of any use. ** Attachment added: "backtrace" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/16217012/xbt -- Crash when mouse at top of screen on 915GM https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/228431 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 228431] [NEW] Random crashes on 915GM
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel I am using X normally for a variable period of time - sometimes a day or more, sometimes minutes - when suddenly the screen goes blank, the backlight goes out and then comes back on (as if the X server were restarting) but then nothing appears on the screen. I cannot switch to a text terminal with C-A-F1, and C-A-Backspace does nothing. C-A-Del makes the system reboot, and very late in the process I see the splash screen signaling a reboot. The bug occurs randomly, but I think that every time it has occurred, my mouse cursor has been at the top of the screen, just at the top of a firefox titlebar. (I have no panel across the top.) I normally have compiz turned off, but the bug also occurs when I have turned compiz on. (The attached log is from a crash with compiz active.) Using xserver-xorg-intel 2.2.1-1ubuntu12 on 8.04; my xorg.conf contains nothing machine-specific. This did not occur with Gutsy's standard X server. This bug resembles bug #204035 and #176377, but they are marked as closed and people encountering the same problem are urged to submit new bugs. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Random crashes on 915GM https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/228431 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

A few other minor lacunae: the degree symbol ( ), the per-mille sign ( <%> ), the musical sharp sign ( <#> <#>), and the one-half symbol ( <1> <2>). I don't find myself wishing for any of these last few. I am using a generic US laptop keyboard, set to Generic 104-key PC and U.S. English, with an option set to turn Caps Lock into Compose, and no other options set. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Unable to enter open and close double quotes with compose key https://launchpad.net/bugs/74344 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 73369] Re: No indication of recording levels
It does, thanks. It would be nice if it were a standard feature of gnome-sound-recorder (presumably one ought to be able to simply add it as a bonobo component or whatever) since I can't imagine many situations where a user won't want a vumeter when recording. -- No indication of recording levels https://launchpad.net/bugs/73369 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 73371] Re: Gnome sound recorder mutes microphone when told to record voice
In fact the problem appears to occur only the *second* time through. It also appears when I use CD quality. Pressing "record" also switches the input to "Capture 2" in the input selection box. I am using Edgy Eft, so gnome-sound-recorder 2.16.1. -- Gnome sound recorder mutes microphone when told to record voice https://launchpad.net/bugs/73371 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 73371] Gnome sound recorder mutes microphone when told to record voice
Public bug reported: When I hit the record button in Gnome sound recorder, it immediately turns off capture from the microphone (built-in microphone on snd-hda- intel), so that unless I open the mixer and turn the microphone back on, I capture nothing but silence. The state of the microphone before recording begins doesn't matter, it is always turned off when recording begins. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Gnome sound recorder mutes microphone when told to record voice https://launchpad.net/bugs/73371 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 73370] Gnome sound recorder's "voice" setting does not appear to use speex
Public bug reported: The "speex" codec is a standard open-source codec for efficiently encoding voice. Is there any reason it isn't used, or at least offered as an option, in Gnome sound recorder? The file size is much smaller for the same quality of voice recording, and it offers discontinuous recording (no bits when there's no voice). ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Gnome sound recorder's "voice" setting does not appear to use speex https://launchpad.net/bugs/73370 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 73369] No indication of recording levels
Public bug reported: The Gnome sound recorder provides no indication of the levels of the sound that is being recorded, so knowing whether it is loud enough to be heard and whether it is so loud it will be distorted is a matter of trial, error, and guesswork. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- No indication of recording levels https://launchpad.net/bugs/73369 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 69741] Re: network-admin does not store changes
The minus sign does not change, and when I bring up the "Properties" dialog again, nothing has changed (that is, it's back to being marked "disabled"). This isn't just a problem with the wifi interface, I can't disable my wired ethernet this way either (not that I want to). There's also a modem interface, which I haven't tried to enable as I know it's a winmodem I have no use for. -- network-admin does not store changes https://launchpad.net/bugs/69741 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 69741] network-admin does not store changes
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-network I have just upgraded from a fairly clean dapper install to edgy, and I find I cannot use network-admin to change any settings. For example, my wifi card happened to be disabled when I upgraded. So when I open network-admin (either as me or via sudo) it appears as disabled, with a minus sign next to it rather than the check mark that is next to my ethernet card. So I open the properties dialog, click on "enable", and hit okay... and nothing changes. The dialog disappears and the networking system is in exactly the state it was before. I see the same behaviour if I try to disable my ethernet adapter. "sudo ifup eth1" successfully brings up my wifi card. The practical result, for now, is that I have to use the terminal to use my wifi card. But when it comes to WEP, passwords, and so on, I'd really prefer to be able to use the tool designed for the task. ** Affects: gnome-network (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- network-admin does not store changes https://launchpad.net/bugs/69741 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 66637] Re: swap not being mounted on boot
Upon upgrade from a clean dapper install to the released version of edgy, this problem occurs. Suspend work ed the first time but I can't resume, and now I have no swap. I can fix it by doing mkswap, and I plan to (as outlined in the steps above), but it would be nice if upgrading dapper users were not all burned by this. Also note: after booting without resume=..., if the swap partition contains a valid resume image *it is dangerous to resume from it*. If you do, the kernel will have a different picture of the filesystem and its buffers than exists on disk and *filesystem corruption may result* (see the swsusp2 FAQ). One hopes the kernel is smart enough to mark the resume partition as out-of-date to avoid this pitfall. -- swap not being mounted on boot https://launchpad.net/bugs/66637 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 66134] Not happy decrypting ascii-armored files with the standard .asc extension
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: seahorse When I double-click on one of the (many) encrypted files I have (all ascii-armoured, all with the extension .asc) I get a long rude message from nautilus telling me the file doesn't have the extension its MIME type says it should and so it's probably a trojan. It does not tell me what extension I should rename the file to, and it won't decrypt the file. I can decrypt the file just fine by renaming it to .pgp; .asc is the extension produced by the KDE tool I used to encrypt the files (and it's a standard extension for ascii-armoured files, not just signatures). More generally, the extension (.pgp vs. .asc) is not really of any use in determining what the file contains (encrypted message, signed message, detached signature, public keys, private keys, some combination of the above...); the correct approach would be to claim .pgp .asc and .sig and have seahorse identify what kind of file it is. This is the version of seahorse (and nautilus etcetera) in Dapper Drake LTS, 0.9.3. ** Affects: seahorse (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Not happy decrypting ascii-armored files with the standard .asc extension https://launchpad.net/bugs/66134 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 60968] By default, it is impossible to get "ask what to do" drag and drop because alt-drag moves windows
Public bug reported: In a default installation of Dapper Drake, trying to get "ask what you want" drag and drop requires you to alt-drag. However, alt-drag is set to move windows. Personally, I prefer "ask what you want" as the default action on drag- and-drop, but it would be nice to at least be able to do it. Perhaps meta-drag? I would prefer to keep alt-actions as window manager, panel, or otherwise global bindings. However, this problem can be worked around, once the user figures out what is going on, by changing the modifier key for moving windows (to what? meta?) ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- By default, it is impossible to get "ask what to do" drag and drop because alt-drag moves windows https://launchpad.net/bugs/60968 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
