[Bug 1585332] Re: Graphical snaps don't honour the desktop theme

2018-03-27 Thread petersaints
Why is the theme correctly picked on Ubuntu (both Xenial, Bionic and
I've also tested on Artful) but it fails under other Ubuntu official
flavors? What is missing? It should be an easy fix, at least on
GTK+-based DE's (maybe a little harder on Kubuntu).

[Bug 1377653] Re: HDMI sound output not detected / NVIDIA optimus laptop

2017-04-10 Thread petersaints
I also have Skylake laptop (ASUS GL502VM) with a GTX 1060 which is
always in Discrete mode (I can't use it in hybrid mode at all) and I
have the same or similar problem (HDMI video: Ok / HDMI audio: Doesn't
work). In my case "lspci -H1" doesn't even list the NVIDIA Audio device.

Any idea of how to fix this?

[Bug 1635988] Re: Update nautilus to 3.22

2017-03-02 Thread petersaints
Ok. Thanks for the heads up and I only mentioned gedit because someone
mentioned nautilus 3.24 above. Therefore, it would make sense to match
to try to match all the versions of the GNOME Stack as much as possible.

Also, according to this news article
(http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2017/02/ubuntu-17-04-include-gnome-3-24)
Ubuntu 17.04 is supposed to ship with ALMOST 100% GNOME 3.24. The only
things that are usually left behind are gtk, nautilus, gdm, gnome-shell
(and perhaps a few others). So I was hoping that 17.04 would ship the
latest version of "GNOME Apps", including gedit, as of April, i.e.,
3.24.

[Bug 1644383] [NEW] [Upstream] Bug 771547 - Internal Google OAuth2 authentication fails with expired token

2016-11-23 Thread petersaints
Public bug reported:

Bug 771547 from GNOME's Bugzilla affects the current version of
Evolution on 16.10 Yakkety Yak:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=771547

I'm not sure if how and if older releases are affected by it.

According to https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=771547#c55 a fix
has already been released as part of GNOME 3.22.2 point release.

Yakkery Yak was released with 3.22.0 and has 3.22.1 as an update. It
would be great if you could provide an update to 3.22.2 soon as it is
already available on Zesty Zapus.

I know that the bug has been marked as expired due to 60 days of
activity. But I'd like to add that the current kernel on xenial-proposed

[Bug 1570820] Re: Suspend failure

2016-04-26 Thread petersaints
@peterriesde
My thoughts exactly. I want to avoid having to run an unofficial kernel. I
mean, on one hand I'm glad that I was able to find a work around (other than
switching to another distro, since from I tested 2 other 4.4 based distros that
don't appear to have this problem), but I'd rather be using the official
supported kernel for added stability and security.

The latest official kernel that was pushed to proposed (4.4.0-22.38),
which is based on 4.4.7, still has this same bug, even though the
mainline 4.4.7 doesn't. However, it has another (unrelated) bug
regarding the my AMD Radeon HD 8870M, which doesn't happen on the
xenial-proposed build. Strange stuff...!!

I'd like to mention that the 4.4.6, upon which the current Ubuntu 16.04

[Bug 1570820] Re: Suspend failure

2016-04-15 Thread petersaints
-- PLEASE DISREGARD MY PREVIOUS COMMENT --

The suspend issue is not present on 4.4.6 mainline kernel. So this must
be some issue with some additional patching that is done to the official
kernel. Meanwhile, I also went back to the 4.4.5 kernel and it suspends
and resumes flawlessly.

Besides that, I noticed that 4.4.7 is not without its share of problems. First
of all, it displays an error on boot stating that radeon VCE failed to
initialize (I have a dedicate AMD GPU on my laptop, besides the Intel GPU
bundled with the CPU). This is a minor thing (I guess). However, the more
concerning issue I noticed is that resuming from a suspended state, I just
can't shutdown or reboot the system. It freezes while shutting down on a black
screen with a white blinking cursor. I waited for a while and nothing happened.
This is probably unrelated with the rest of the bug. Notwithstanding, I thought
that I should mention it just so that you are aware that 4.4.7 also introduces
a few issues, even though it seems to be unaffected by the suspending issues
that I've been facing on the official 4.4.0-18 kernel.

[Bug 1570820] Re: Suspend failure

2016-04-15 Thread petersaints
So I just found this site "Ubuntu to Mainline kernel version mapping"
that the official 4.4.0-18 kernel is based upon the updstream 4.4.6
kernel. So I just tried installing that version and suspend is broken.
So this is something this must be something that was fixed upstream
between 4.4.6 and 4.4.7.

I'm not knowledgeable enough to go through all the commits between 4.4.6
and 4.4.7 and find out exactly which one fixed the bug so that you can
create a patch for it. However, I did find out that the word "suspend"
is mentioned a few times in the 4.4.7's changelog:
https://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v4.x/ChangeLog-4.4.7 So maybe
someone else can pick up whatever is needed to fix the kernel suspend
issues that I'm facing and import it as a patch to the official kernel.
Or maybe you can rebase the oficial kernel to the 4.4.7 version after
the oficial LTS release. I don't know if that's possible since I'm not
aware of the kernel update policy.

[Bug 1570820] [NEW] Suspend failure

2016-04-15 Thread petersaints
Public bug reported:

My laptop fails to suspend. The screen turns off, but the fans continue
to run (and it may actually get hotter). I wait and wait, and nothing
happens (the power indicator remains always on).

I tried suspending using the GUI, pressing the power button, closing the
lid, and even through the terminal with the "pm-suspend" command.
Nothing worked.

Suspend worked fine on Ubuntu 15.10 and older releases, but since I
upgraded to 16.04 I'm unable to put it to sleep. In fact, I had an old
4.2 kernel installed from Wily. I booted into it and it suspended and
then resumed flawlessly, so it really seems to be a kernel related bug.

I'll gladly perform any testing procedures that you may need to try to
identify what the problem may be.

I really hope that you are able to fix this soon, even if it will
probably after the final release.

[Bug 1510587] Re: Nautilus crashes when delete a file in a folder which is a symbolic link to another filesystem

2015-11-17 Thread petersaints
On top of nautilus, nemo and thunar, I also found that pcmanfm and caja
have the same problem. Dolphin, which doesn't rely on libglib2.0-0 is
unaffected. The problem may actually be on some other depency that is
shared by all these packages, but I think that libglib2.0-0 is the best
bet.

I haven't confirmed if the problem is present on Xenial, which has a
newer version of libglib2.0-0. If Xenial is unaffected, and the newer
version doesn't break anything on Wily, I guess that all that has to be
done is to backport it to Xenial.

I would really like that you would look closely into this bug. It is
extremely annoying and very important in terms of user experience. I
just don't consider it critical because it doesn't result in data loss,
because if it did it would be disastrous.

[Bug 1510587] Re: Nautilus crashes when delete a file in a folder which is a symbolic link to another filesystem

2015-11-13 Thread petersaints
I don't think that this is nautilus specific. I have just tried to
reproduce this on other file managers (e.g., nemo and thunar) and they
also crash. The problem seems to be related with glib. So any file
manager that relies on it will crash.

Can anyone confirm if my assertion is correct?

[Bug 1076232] Re: Build with tracker support

2013-09-19 Thread petersaints
Also, I understand that you don't want to have to keep a Nautilus
version always slightly ahead (in version number) with tracker support
enabled. But what about on the GNOME 3 Next PPA (or whichever PPA that
has a newer GNOME version than the current Ubuntu release) you build
nautilus with tracker support. For example, on the upcoming Ubuntu
13.10, nautilus will always be at version 3.8.x WITHOUT tracker support.
But whoever uses the GNOME 3 Next PPA will have nautilus 3.10.x. That
3.10.x version could be built with tracker support without the fear of
the main Ubuntu nautilus version (3.8.x WITHOUT tracker support)
replacing it. The new nautilus is from a newer version of GNOME so it
will always be kept instead of the default one.

Just think about it... at least whoever wants to be on the latest GNOME
stable release will have Nautilus and the Activities overview with all
of its goodies enabled.

[Bug 976075] Re: Workspace switcher doesn't snap windows

2013-08-18 Thread petersaints
This bug still exists in newer releases. Is extremely annoying when
rearranging windows across the virtual workspaces. Dragging a window to
another workspace should just place it in the same position it was on
the original workspace. This behavior is much more predictable and less
error prone

GNOME Shell and KDE behave just like my suggestion. I believe that this
should be really looked at because it is a major annoyance in the whole
Unity experience.

[Bug 1076232] Re: Build with tracker support

I thinks this is a major user experience problem, that should somehow be
fixed before 13.10 is releases (yes it also happens on Saucy
Salamander).
