[Bug 1620806] Re: gedit edit window is transparent when using Ambiance and Radiance themes

2016-10-25 Thread piratemurray
Confirmed Gedit and Calc display this problem after upgrading 16.04 to
16.10. I am using 367.57 from nvidia-367 as my display driver if that is
useful information?

This is more than just spell checking features - although the most
obvious use case is spelling. Right clicking (or pressing the menu key)
dismisses the dialogue.

[Bug 879950] Re: pidgin not showing up

2013-01-31 Thread piratemurray
I don't get this any more with 12.10 and the latest Pidgin in the
repository.

The workaround mentioned in #20 is well known but means you have a
redundant entry in the tray. Workaround, but not a fix.

Anyway, can't say I've noticed this in 12.10.

[Bug 998747] [NEW] GB and ZA local settings do not work correctly since they are the same as US

2012-05-13 Thread piratemurray
Public bug reported:

I live in the UK, downloaded Ubuntu (and Firefox) from a UK mirror, my
IP is UK based, my system settings have UK British English set as
defaults system wide, my Firefox settings have English GB set as
default. However when I use the search plugins in Firefox or try and
search from the address bar, the results are for the US Google site.
Prices are in dollars, cities are in the US, news is from the US, etc
etc etc.

On inspection the language specific xml files under /usr/lib/firefox-
addons/distribution/searchplugins/locale are identical for GB and US.
Sadly for me they are for the US sites not the GB sites. The same might
be true for the ZA language specific xmls too.

As a workaround I can edit the GB ones to correctly point to the .co.uk
sites for Google and the other search enginges. Again sadly for me that
this is overwritten when FF is updated.

2) Select GB English to be language of choice for Firefox
3) Use the Google search engine from the search bar

issue. But, no, not seeing it anymore with F10.

[Bug 917560] [NEW] Alt-tab causes Unity to crash

2012-01-17 Thread piratemurray
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 11.10
Release:11.10
Unity: 4.28.0-0ubuntu1

60% of the time Unity crashes whilst using alt-tab. Found this in the
log viewer:

kernel: [ 73.464371] compiz[1961]: segfault at 3e1cb7bf ip b47710e7 sp
bfd04230 error 4 in libunityshell.so[b45ef000+20e000]

gnome-session[1885]: WARNING: App 'compiz.desktop' respawning too quickly
gnome-session[1885]: CRITICAL: We failed, but the fail whale is dead. Sorry

At that point Unity failed to restart, had to hard reset since all the panels /
window decorations were dead. Previous version of Unity and alt-tab did not
cause this behaviour.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Press alt-tab on a newly booted system

Expected results:
Alt-tab window switcher appears

Actual results:
Occasionally unity crashes. Sometime unrecoverably. Can not consistently
reproduce this. Happens about 60% of the time.

[Bug 911276] Re: firefox flash videos blocks area in other tabs

2012-01-04 Thread piratemurray
Observed this to happen with the Adobe Reader 9.4 plugin too (nppdf.so).
Only worse.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Open a pdf in a new tab
2) Adobe plugin renders pdf inside tab
3) open another tab
4) navigate to site (e.g. www.gmail.com)
5) interact with site (e.g. try to login)

Expected result:
interactions can be seen (e.g. clicking on links changes colour, entering into
text boxes shows characters entered, etc)

Actual result:
can't see any interactions

This is worse since the pdf reader plugin is the whole size of the tab
and not just limited to the size of a flash video so you really can't do
anything :(

[Bug 911276] [NEW] firefox flash videos blocks area in other tabs

2012-01-03 Thread piratemurray
Public bug reported:

Firefox 9.0.1+build1-0ubuntu0.11.10.2
Shockwave Flash 11.2 d202
Ubuntu Oneiric x86

Only noticed this when upgraded to FF9 via update manager.

Watching a video in one tab then switch to another tab. Partial areas of
the other tab can't be viewed whilst the flash video is running. Area is
exact size of flash video see attached screenshot.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Load flash video in one tab
2) Open another tab and browse to website

Expected result:
Flash video in one tab does not interfere with the content of the the second tab

Actual result:
Flash video area (but not playing video) is carried over to second tab making
navigation in second tab imposible

Public bug reported:

Possibly related to bug #881183 but I don't know enough to answer that.

Started LibreOffice in workspace 3 (bottom left for me) and tried to use
alt-tab to switch to it. LibreOffice not appearing in alt-tab list.

I've captured a screenshot of the issue (LibreOffice-NoAltTab.png)

Steps to reproduce:

1) Open LibreOffice
2) Select alt-tab

Expected results:
LibreOffice appears in the list of at-tabable applications

Actual result:
LibreOffice not in list difficult to switch to it. See attached screenshot

[Bug 890654] [NEW] intel 6200 wireless crashes session logs out

2011-11-15 Thread piratemurray
Public bug reported:

At certain wireless locations my laptop Lenovo T410 crashes randomly. At
best it crashes the program running (Firefox / Lotus Notes) at worst it
logs me out of my session and crashes X.

At certain wireless locations I cannot reproduce this problem and
everthing works fine (full screen flash in Firefox for hours, Lotus
Notes for the whole day, consistent logged in session).

I've tried to disable wireless N on the card thinking that may cause
issues but this problem still occurs. I don't even know how to reproduce
the bug aside from using the laptop at work where it happens. There
isn't a specific trigger that I can tell.

[Bug 596262] [NEW] ubuntuone music store plugin remembers and resyncs files moved out of /purchased from ubuntu one/ folder

2010-06-19 Thread piratemurray
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: banshee-community-extensions

I've started to use the U1MS through the Banshee community extensions
plugin - lovely service. However, I don't keep my music in
~/.ubuntuone/Purchased from Ubuntu One/. I keep them on my external hard
drive. The files download to this directory and then I move them to my
external hard drive.

The problem is that when I move them away from the folder, U1MS
redownloads the files since it has a history of what I have purchased.
So I end up with two local duplicates of the songs.

I'm concerned that if I do this enough times, 7digital will think that
I've tried to download more than the allowed number of downloads for
these songs and when I genuinely do want to recover the songs it won't
allow me.

I've tried the command

 u1sdtool --list-folders
Folder list:
  id=3ef9d284-0cea-4960-8d82-cf706719eb6a subscribed=True path=
~/.ubuntuone/Purchased from Ubuntu One

u1sdtool --delete-folder=3ef9d284-0cea-4960-8d82-cf706719eb6a

But the files and folders are recreated and resync'd once more.

Lucid Lynx AMD64
banshee-community-extensions: 1.6.0-1ubuntu5
banshee: 1.7.1+git20100616.r1.ca79130-0ubuntu1+lucid
banshee-extension-ubuntuonemusicstore: 1.6.0-1ubuntu5

Steps to reproduce:
1) Purchase songs from 7digital using U1MS in Banshee
2) Move downloaded song from download folder to another folder

Expected result:
Songs are not redownloaded to the local machine

Actual result:
Songs are redownloaded to the local machine and two local duplicates now exist
on hard drive

[Bug 584150] [NEW] gnome panel overlaps

2010-05-22 Thread piratemurray
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

On certain boots of Ubuntu the panels display incorrectly, sometimes the
network icon is missing, sometimes the date and time applet does not
draw correctly, sometimes the username is drawn twice, sometimes the
power off button is hidden.

There is no logic as to when any of these will happen.

Using Ubuntu 10.04 AMD64 with the default themes (Ambience)

See screen shot panel-bug.png.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Start Ubuntu

Expected result:
The panel draws each icon correctly and there is no overlap

Actual result:
Seemingly randomly certain Ubuntu boots causes the panel to draw icons
overlapping each other

[Bug 584150] Re: gnome panel overlaps

2010-05-22 Thread piratemurray
It has been mentioned that you can restart either GDM or the computer to
fix this problem, however this is only a temporary fix and the problem
reoccurs on subsequent boot ups.

Also a lot of the other bugs around this have been marked as invalid
with no reference to a duplicate bug or any reasoning as to why it is
invalid. I feel this is quite clearly a valid problem.

in focus using this method, I expect that I can being to type in my URL.
I can't. Whatever I type in the address bar, the next character does not
print after the first but inserts itself over the first. The effect
being you can only type in one character into the address bar despite
having typed a full URL.

I can work around this problem by focusing the address bar with the
mouse.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Start Firefox
2) Press F6 to focus on the address bar
3) Begin typing a URL

Expected result:
You can type the URL as normal

Actual result:
You can only type one character before the second character over rides the
first and so on, with the effect that you can't type in a URL at all.

[Bug 535268] [NEW] banshee creative zen V mtp sync doesn't work at all

2010-03-09 Thread piratemurray
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: banshee

I am confident that libmtp (1.0.2.1-ubuntu1) works since Rhythmbox can
sync to the Creative Zen absolutely fine.

Banshee can not. This is frustrating since Banshee is much better than
the other music players in so many ways. But I need music sync'ing.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Connect Creative Zen 4GB to computer via USB
2) Observe device entry in Places menu and on desktop
3) Open Banshee
4) Attempt to sync some song to this device in Banshee
(occasionally) 5) Close and reopen Banshee if device does not appear in Banshee
first time

Expected result:
Tracks are sync'd successfully to the MTP device

Actual result:
Failure to sync anything to the device. Rhythmbox works fine. Output from
Banshee when started in terminal is attached

[Bug 523203] Re: GTalk chat status not synce'd with Empathy

2010-02-20 Thread piratemurray
Hi there Omer

Why would synching the statuses across clients have a dependency on
whether or not I am chatting to anyone? I'll give your suggestion a go
but I don't believe it will make a difference.

In fact it didn't make a difference. I just had chats with several
different GTalk contacts whilst changing my status in Empathy and the
status in GTalk remained as it always was.

How can we proceed given this?

Thanks

[Bug 523203] [NEW] GTalk chat status not synce'd with Empathy

2010-02-17 Thread piratemurray
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

This could be a limitation of the API Empathy is using to connect to
GTalk but it would strike me that if I have a single tool to coordinate
my chats across different accounts (GTalk, MSN) then a single change in
that tool should ripple out across the any other clients.

For example: I sign into GMail in Firefox and leave the window open so I
can easily see new emails. This means that the GTalk chat client
embedded in the browser on the left of my inbox is a running instance of
GTalk. I also sign into my accounts (MSN, GTalk) using Empathy which
means a second instance of GTalk is running via Empathy. Now if I change
my status in the browser's instance I can understand why I might not
want to change my status in Empathy (because my MSN status would also
change? And Empathy currently doesn't support different statuses for
each account?). However if I change my status in Empathy I want that
change to be reflected globally. That is to say I expect my status to
change in the browser instance. And if I install and load Pidgin then I
expect the status of GTalk to be changed there too.

Bug or as designed?

Steps to reproduce:
1) Log into GMail with the GTalk box on the left enabled with a status (any
status will do)
2) Log into Empathy
3) Change your status in Empathy

Expected result:
Statuses across accounts and across clients are synch'd

Actual result:
GTalk in the browser window has my original status and is not updated when I
change my Empathy status

[Bug 491521] Re: Decorations and RGBA

2010-01-07 Thread piratemurray
Upon updating to gtk 2.19.2-1ubuntu1+ppa my desktop wallpaper has gone
back to the ugly gray I described in comment #48.

Banshee doesn't work again, however deluge seems to work. I haven't had
a chance to test out other applications.

[Bug 474102] Re: clock applet freezes for up to 2 seconds at a time

2010-01-06 Thread piratemurray
This affects me too with the same symptons as yoda was experiencing
(time skipping for two seconds/ erratic seconds counting). I'll try the
backtrace thing that Pedro mentioned.

Just to confirm I'm running pretty much the same spec as yoda (Karmic
x86 upgraded from Jaunty). I've got a Lucid 64 at home that I could
compare it against if you think that would be useful?

[Bug 474102] Re: clock applet freezes for up to 2 seconds at a time

2010-01-06 Thread piratemurray
All right the back trace didn't go as well as I'd like and this is the
first time that I've tried to get one so I might be doing it
incorrectly.

I set up the debugging sources as described and tried to use gdb on
gnome-panel with the assumption that this will provide you the required
logs to use. However I got into some troubles running gdb on a process
that hasn't crashed/ isn't going to crash but is just behaving
strangely.

The log also told me that there were no debugging symbols for the clock:

Reading symbols from /usr/lib/gnome-panel/libclock-applet.so...Reading symbols
from /usr/lib/debug/usr/lib/gnome-panel/libclock-applet.so...done.
(no debugging symbols found)...done.
Loaded symbols for /usr/lib/gnome-panel/libclock-applet.so

So is there any other way of progressing this bug?

[Bug 474102] Re: clock applet freezes for up to 2 seconds at a time

2010-01-06 Thread piratemurray
I've stared at my clock for quite some time now.

I don't observe this on my lucid 64 distribution.

Is this something specific with 32 bit 64 bit distros?

Wonderful! I have my desktop back and Deluge works too! I'm very happy.
Well done.

Now how do I turn on the fancy alpha stuff?

[Bug 502457] Re: navigation buttons not working in nautilus

2010-01-04 Thread piratemurray
I'm not at home at the moment, but I'll check the version of GTK when I
get back.

What I do remember is that the first install of lucid worked really
well. Then I decided to mess around with GTK using this post as a guide
at which point I experience the problems I mentioned.

http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2009/12/lucid-to-get-aero-style-rgba.html

I also experience the same issues reported in bug #491521.
