Same issue on my new HP Laptop 15s-fq2000nb (https://support.hp.com/be-
fr/document/c07043807), and I confirm that the issue is still there and
the PC is unusable while the Wifi is on.

[Bug 1795207] Re: upgrade to ubuntu-18.04: 'ubuntu-minimal' not found

2021-08-24 Thread Pol Vangheluwe
My architecture is "powerpc" (Apple G3 - G4 and G5 machines are big-endian
machines). Xenial supports both "powerpc" and "ppc64el" but Bionic only
supports "ppc64el" (little-endian). So, I am afraid that there is no solution
for my problem: Xenial is the last Ubuntu release with support for "powerpc".
Of course, the release-upgrade app should be clearer about this:
- it should not propose an upgrade to a not-supported release;
- it should return a clearer error description when the upgrade fails.

[Bug 1805816] Re: APST quirk needed for PM951 Samsung 1TB NVMe Drive

2019-06-28 Thread David Pol
I have the same problem on Thinkpad X1 Carbon 5th gen with NVMe drive. I
get read-only rootfs every time I suspend my laptop (e.g. by closing the
laptop's lid).

Things were fine under Ubuntu Xenial 16.04. Once I upgraded to the
latest LTS 18.04 the problem started. I was using the toshiba NVMe drive
(256GB). Then I upgraded to the following drive (samsung ssd 970 evo
500GB) however the problem persisted:

I tried different kernels. 4.15.18 , 4.20.17 , 5.1.15.
Currently on:

x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

None seem to fix it.

I tried the suggested solution by setting nvme_core.default_ps_max_latency_us=
to 5500, 200, and 0
Currently using:
nvme_core.default_ps_max_latency_us=0

APST is now disabled:

# nvme get-feature -f 0x0c -H /dev/nvme0
get-feature:0xc (Autonomous Power State Transition), Current value:
Autonomous Power State Transition Enable (APSTE): Disabled
Auto PST Entries.
Entry[ 0]
.
Idle Time Prior to Transition (ITPT): 0 ms
Idle Transition Power State (ITPS): 0

The problem persists however As soon as I close the lid / suspend the
laptop, it won't recover from this suspend, instead it hangs with the black
screen with

EXT4-fs error (device nvme0n1p2) : I/O error while writing superblock
and so on...

Is there any solution to this yet?

Thanks

[Bug 1472314] Re: Fix subsequent cmake runs when using multi-arch

2015-07-07 Thread Aleix Pol
log that reproduces the error:
mkdir build; cd build; cmake ..; cmake ..

The second time that it's configured cmake doesn't need to detect the
platform anymore so CMakeDetermineSystem.cmake isn't called anymore as
it calls the Platform file directly.

[Bug 1443073] [NEW] package initscripts 2.88dsf-41ubuntu6.1 failed to install/upgrade: el subprocés s'ha instaŀlat el script post-installation retornà el codi d'eixida d'error 2

2015-04-12 Thread Pol Roca
Public bug reported:

/var/lib/dpkg/info/initscripts.postinst line 482

for F in /var/log/dmesg /var/log/fsck/checkroot /var/log/fsck/checkfs

yields an exit with error in processes with i.e. apt-get update

Commenting #/var/log/fsck/checkfs and executing dpkg --configure -a
solves the problem each time it occurs.

But since I don't know it could cause any sort of further problem, I
uncomment the line again after solving the problem, until it occurs
again...

[Bug 1313165] Re: removal blacklist matches update-manager-kde which is not critical anymore

2014-08-26 Thread Gert van de Pol
Francois, I am not a techie but I'll try to describe the procedure:

from the desktop you will have to start a terminal-session.
Start Applications menu - Accessories - Terminal. Or use the keyboard
shortcut Ctrl + Alt + T

then from the command-prompt type:

sudo apt-get remove update-manager-kde ENTER

type in your password when asked

When finished removing kde return to the desktop and start the scan for
updates again. When the scanning is finished you'll see a big button
for the availability of the 14.04 version. Click it and follow the
procedure. In my case this process was halted before because of the
kde-manager being installed. After kde was removed the upgrade worked
fine. The upgrade-process might take some hours.

That itch itched me too long and I fixed it for qt :

[Bug 509862] [NEW] filter X-original to

2010-01-19 Thread Pol
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Hi all :)

I created some filters by sender and everything works, now I've a
problem: sometimes I get the email that has likes this:

From: Newsletter Apogeo webzine li...@apogeoeditore.net
Reply-to: apogeonl...@apogeonline.com
To: webz...@apogeoeditore.net
Subject:La vita che si impara giocando col computer
Date: 01/19/2010 06:21:42 PM

this email in the header has:

Return-path: webzine-return-752-psycheye2=yahoo...@apogeoeditore.net
X-original-to: psych...@fuckaround.org
Delivered-to: psych...@fuckaround.org

This email cannot be filtered

actually there isn't any filter to filter by X-original-to so.. many
many emails will go in the inbox directory and not in my specified
folders (by filter).

Thanks

Pol

It's actually possible with compiz?

Tested with default configuration of jaunty (pretty slow)- Don't work.
Tested with UXA and greedy - Don't work.
Tested with 2.4 intel driver - Don't work.

Thanks very much.

like to see the same fix on my little Dell but I'm running the LPIA
system to get a better battery life.

[Bug 353387] Re: [Dell Inc. Inspiron 910] suspend/resume failure

2009-04-20 Thread Pol
I found a temporary workaround. At first I had to squeeze my Ubuntu along with
the WinXP that I keep for my parents onto the 8GB hdd. Since I still need to
have an ext3 partition on the SD card I found a way to force Jaunty to unmount
it automatically.
In Jaunty the standard method for suspending/resuming is using pm-utils so you
have to add the script to /etc/pm/sleep.d/ and not to /etc/acpi/suspend.d
I attach my primitive script - just change your mount point inside and put it
in /etc/pm/sleep.d
Happy suspending!

[Bug 353387] Re: [Dell Inc. Inspiron 910] suspend/resume failure

2009-04-19 Thread Pol
I'd like to confirm this bug. I also have a Dell Mini 910. I'm using a
Jaunty Remix that I setup on the basis of the current Ubuntu-Mid
2009-04-18 edition. (to get better battery life cause it's lpia
optimized) I also tested this behaviour on the regular Jaunty Remix live
system. It works fine as long as I don't mount any SD cards with Ext3.
My problem is, however, that I have my whole root partition on an SD
card so unmounting it before suspend might be difficult ;)

[Bug 218963] Re: libexpat1 does not contain libexpat.so.0 in 8.04 Beta

2008-06-04 Thread Joe Di Pol

Can you be a bit more specific and verbose, what exactly breaks?

I have an application that has a dependency on libexpat.so.0. It runs fine on
6.06.
It runs fine on 7.10. It fails to run on 8.04 because libexpat.so.0 does not
exist on 8.04.

Why should binary compatibility be broken by removing a link, that
should have been never added?

Removing that link removes an interface from the OS. Removing a public interface
from the OS breaks binary compatibility.

To be honest: I miss the compelling reason to leave this link. wink
has been fixed and no other packages were affected.

Actually that logic is reversed. You need a compelling reason to remove
libexpat.so.0.
Plus you need some confidence that the number of applications that will break
is mitigated somehow.

You can't possibly know about all software that runs on Ubuntu, so saying
no other packages were affected is pretty presumptuous.

Look, I'm not saying you can never, ever break compatibility. But when you do
there
needs to be a very good reason why, and some confidence that the impact on
customers and developers is minimal.

[Bug 218963] Re: libexpat1 does not contain libexpat.so.0 in 8.04 Beta

2008-06-03 Thread Joe Di Pol
Just to be sure we don't loose sight of the original intent of this
bug

The bug is that 8.04 breaks binary compatibility with previous releases
by removing an interface (libexpat.so.0). The fact that wink has been
fixed is great, but does not address the fundamental issue.

 Matthias Klose
please could somebody demonstrate the problem instead of saying the symlink
 is missing

I have an application. It runs fine on 6.06 LTS and 7.10. When I try
to run it on 8.04 it fails because 8.04 has broken binary compatibility
with previous releases by removing libexpat.so.0

Granted, I don't know what Ubuntu's binary compatibility policy is
(I haven't found it formally stated anywhere). But this breakage seems
gratuitous.

[Bug 230388] [NEW] Dictionary Look up-field cannot be copied

2008-05-14 Thread Jeldert Pol
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-utils

Ubuntu 8.04
Dictionary 2.20.0.1-1ubuntu5

The content of the Look up-field cannot be copied by pressing Ctrl+C,
or selecting Copy from the Edit menu. The content can only be copied by
right-clicking the selected content, and pressing copy in the pop-up
menu.

I expect that the selected text is copied, when pressing Ctrl+C, or
selecting the Copy option from the Edit menu.

To reproduce: start Dictionary, put some text in the Look up-field.
Select it, and press Ctrl+C, or select Copy from the Edit menu. Try to
paste it somewhere. You will notice the content is not copied, and the
previous content of the clipboard is still present.

Note that the content of the definition field can be copied by Ctrl+C.

[Bug 227492] [NEW] Ogg Theora video should have extension .ogv

2008-05-06 Thread Jeldert Pol
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: example-content

Ubuntu 8.04
Example-content 31

The recommended filename extension is .ogv (was .ogg). See
http://theora.org/doc/Theora.pdf and
http://wiki.xiph.org/index.php/MIME_Types_and_File_Extensions.

Therefore, the file /usr/share/example-content/Experience ubuntu.ogg
should be renamed, to use the .ogv extension.

As far as I can see, the MIME-type did not change, so a simple rename of
the file should be sufficient.

PS, if one knows other Ogg Theora files shipped with Ubuntu: these should be
renamed as well.

[Bug 226517] [NEW] cd/dvd label shown as cdrom0

2008-05-04 Thread Jeldert Pol
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Ubuntu 8.04
Nautilus 2.22.2

The label of a cd or dvd is used in most places to refer to the disc.
However, the title of a Nautilus window showing the cd or dvd is called
cdrom0 - File Browser. cdrom0 - File Browser is also displayed in
the Window List panel. I would expect that the label of the cd or dvd
would be used.

Note that cdrom0 is shown, no matter if a cd or dvd is inserted.

[Bug 221087] Re: Hardy RC CUPS crashes during printer installation with lynx

2008-05-01 Thread Jeldert Pol
I can confirm this bug. Using a clean install of Ubuntu 8.04 Server.

However, after trying to add a printer cupsd also stopped working:
/etc/init.d/cupsys status
Status of Common Unix Printing System: cupsd is not running but
/var/run/cups/cupsd.pid exists.

I tried both aa-complain, and the modifications in
/etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.cupsd, but it is still the same.

[Bug 224274] [NEW] First run creates config_-1

2008-04-29 Thread Jeldert Pol
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tilda

Ubuntu 8.04 64-bit
tilda 0.9.5pre (0.09.4+cvs20071012-1)

When starting Tilda for the first time, it creates a new config file. This
first file is called config_-1. The content of config_-1 does seem to be valid.

The next time Tilda is started it creates another config file. This one
is called config_0.

After this, config_0 is used at every start.

It seems an internal counter is set wrong when first creating a config file. It
also seems that Tilda only looks for config_i files, where i =0.
Combined, this results in having to configure Tilda twice.

To reproduce, remove, or rename the ~/.tilda directory. Now start Tilda for the
first time, config it, and quit. Start Tilda again.

[Bug 218963] [NEW] libexpat1 does not contain libexpat.so.0 in 8.04 Beta

2008-04-17 Thread Joe Di Pol
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libexpat1

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 8.04
Release:8.04

$ apt-cache policy libexpat1
libexpat1:
  Installed: 2.0.1-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 2.0.1-0ubuntu1

The libexpat1 package in 8.04 Beta does not provide /usr/lib/libexpat.so.0 and
therefore breaks binary compatibility with previous Ubuntu releases. Previous
versions of libexpat1 provided libexpat.so.0 (which was just a symlink to
libexpat.so.1). I have verified this in 6.06 LTS and 7.10:

libexpat1_1.95.8-3_i386.deb
./usr/lib/libexpat.so.0 - libexpat.so.1

libexpat1_1.95.8-4ubuntu1_i386.deb
./usr/lib/libexpat.so.0 - libexpat.so.1

8.04 should provide this library, otherwise applications that ran fine on 7.10
will break on 8.04.
I understand it may be necessary to break binary compatibility at times, but in
this case it seems gratuitous.
