This is a problem with Kubuntu 16.04. KDE Neon is far more stable for
some reason.

Ok, thanks for the info.

Samba, for example, did appear in the old Ubuntu Software Center so
to understand you the METADATA info hasn't been updated to work with the
new Software Center in ubuntu...

So this includes already installed software too

Ok thanks for helping me to understand...

[Bug 1579415] Re: Ubuntu Software Center does not display third party apps or all installed apps

2016-05-12 Thread pst007x
So, this is not normal and is a bug however, this is not the place
to report this bug?

"not enough people caring about it." so what you are saying that using
this as a package manager is not high on the list of importance.

It is just strange that if the fault was with the packages then why are
ALL applications listed in Synaptic and MUON?

Anyway clearly no one seems that worried that it is currently broken
so best to not use it and stick to alternatives No probs... Thanks

[Bug 1579415] Re: Ubuntu Software Center does not display third party apps or all installed apps

2016-05-10 Thread pst007x
Sebastien.. fair comment... I apologise if I sounded rude, that was not
my intent.

In my experience with respect to Muon and the old software-center apps
like Samba, Krita, etc and all installed application all showed up when
searched for.

I am confused as to why it is now considered normal that in the new
Software-Center not all installed apps should be listed.

Is it correct that not all installed apps are now listed, as well as all
available applications?

Is the new Software-Center no longer considered an application manager
but rather just a limited store?

If so this is a disappointing move in my opinion, when applications like
MUON work as expected.

Thanks

[Bug 1579415] Re: Ubuntu Software Center does not display third party apps or all installed apps

2016-05-09 Thread pst007x
Changed in gnome-software (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → Low
status: Confirmed → Invalid

So @Sebastien Bacher (seb128) the old Ubuntu Software Center all
applications were shown. However the new Ubuntu Software Center does not
index all applications, not even installed applications

So are we saying that this is normal? And confirming that it is useless
to use as a Software Manager?

So apps like Krita are considered technical?

If Seb128 is right then the Ubuntu Software Center is as useless as
ever.

[Bug 1497688] Re: dmsetup and libdevmapper1.02.1 fail to install, depend on each other

2015-10-29 Thread pst007x
"Update aborted. Your system may be left in an unworkable state"

The setting for "dictionaries-common/default-wordlist" is missing, but
packages providing candidates are installed: "miscfiles, wamerican,
wbritish".

This may be due to corruption in the debconf database. See
"/usr/share/doc/dictionaries-common/README.problems" on "Debconf
database corruption".

In this case, running "/usr/share/debconf/fix_db.pl" can help to put the
debconf database in a consistent state.

Some questions are likely to be asked after this message in order to
leave the dictionaries system in a (provisionally) working state.

I was using Nvidia graphics card and the Nouveau display driver, this seemed to
cause the problem.

I moved to a proprietary Nvidia driver, rebooted and suspend now works
fine.

So I would suggest checking what driver you are using and changing to
the proprietary driver available for your system.

[Bug 990129] Re: Suspend/Resume hangs and fails - Ubuntu 12.04LTS

2014-03-08 Thread pst007x
I was using Nvidia graphics card and the Nouveau display driver, this seemed to
cause the problem.

I moved to a proprietary Nvidia driver, rebooted and suspend now works
fine.

So I would suggest checking what driver you are using and changing to
the proprietary driver available for your system.

Same issue here but with 13.10 64bit, however the problem for me was the
Nouveau display driver.

[Bug 1236749] Re: Gnome shell extensions disabled at every startup

2014-02-03 Thread pst007x
Additional:

Try disabling all of your extensions and booting up with one enabled at
a time. I found that an Extension called TASKBAR, which was set to
create a second bar at the bottom of the screen caused all extensions to
intermittently not start on boot up.

Perhaps some of the issues here could be to do with the way Gnome is
handling some extensions, causing them to crash?

[Bug 1236749] Re: Gnome shell extensions disabled at every startup

2014-02-02 Thread pst007x
Sam issue here:

Ubuntu 13.10 64-bit
GeForce GTX 580M/PCIe/SSE2
Intel® Core™ i7-2860QM CPU @ 2.50GHz × 8

I find that the issue is definitely intermittent, and what is strange
logging out and back in brings the extensions back.

Perhaps it has something to do with timings, or a loading sequence?

Is there a way I can force Gnome to load extensions using a script?

[Bug 1242210] Re: Failed to install linux kernel

2013-10-22 Thread pst007x
I have tried booting into older kernels, but no joy.

Since removing the 'update-nvidia' file the 'sudo apt-get install -f'
goes fine.

It is as though the driver is not being seen, even though it compiles
the kernel ok.

When I was able to boot into a GUI, there was no sign of a driver, even
in details, the Graphics Card selection was missing.

I think I shouldn't of upgraded, every time I upgrade Unity gets sick...

I think I'll reinstall, but I may try Ubuntu Gnome or Kubuntu.

Thanks for the help :)

[Bug 1242210] Re: Failed to install linux kernel

2013-10-22 Thread pst007x
I purged all kernels, installed official kernel from the repos

Purged jockey and reinstalled

Run update

I now have my desktop back, with no nvidia drivers?

Graphics: Gallium 0.4 on NVCE

I believe this is a fallback mode?

when I check for additional drivers a message says: An error occurred
while searching for drivers.

Any further ideas?

I found the problem

Xorg Nvidia binary driver was missing.

I wasn't able to install through Ubuntu, but was able to install running
Additional Drivers in Kubuntu

Now the correct drivers show, but when in the Software Updates Panel
in Ubuntu, still shows an error...

90% there... at least my PC is functional again... I think I'll back
everything up over the weekend :/

What program drives the Additional Drivers Panel?

Thanks

Rebooted, no change...

I also get this error: E:Could not open file /var/lib/dpkg/status - open

I checked correct permissions: sudo chmod 644 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Could this and the Additional Driver error be something to do with
permissions?

permissions of the file /var/lib/dpkg/status. Please change them back
via: sudo chmod 644 /var/lib/dpkg/status in order to fix the issue.

I ended up opening terminal:

What is this file looking for? Can I manually add it?

I run it and I get this:

It appears you are currently running a mainline kernel. It would be
better to report this bug upstream at http://bugzilla.kernel.org/ so
that the upstream kernel developers are aware of the issue. If you'd
still like to file a bug against the Ubuntu kernel, please boot with an
official Ubuntu kernel and re-file.

The reason my kernel has changed because I have tried several different
kernels.

Please send me a link to try a different kernel? I downloaded all
kernels I tested from:

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/

Is this correct?

Thanks

[Bug 1153821] [NEW] Calendar Events do not appear in Evolution

2013-03-11 Thread pst007x
Public bug reported:

I am trying to sync Google Calendar with Evolution email client. I am
not able to see any of my calendar events in Evolution, however when in
the Gnome Shell, I can see the events listed in the clock calendar.

If I add a new event using Thunderbird or on-line, the new events
appears in the Clock Calendar, but again does not show up in Evolution.
So Evolution is syncing, but the calendar entry does not appear in the
calendar.

I can add a calendar entry in Evolution, however, the entry does not
appear in Evolution, but does update in the on-line Google Calendar.

So it is syncing fine, but does not display.

In fact no calendar entries are being displayed, even if I add an entry
to a Local 'on computer' calendar

Any ideas? A known bug in this version?

[Bug 1071891] Re: Crash VMware Workstation 9 on Ubuntu 12.10 (Linux 3.5 Kernel)

2012-11-17 Thread pst007x
Patch mentioned above is NOT for VMware 9...

The vmware forums do mention this, with reference to Fedora, but NOT
Ubuntu 12.10.

I think best to downgrade back to an earlier Kernel or back to the
poorly put together 12.04...

I do not believe there is currently a solution available..

[Bug 872808] Re: Cannot flag reviews as inappropriate

2012-06-26 Thread pst007x
I tried to flag as inappropriate a comment which was really a bug report
on someone's PC when running Braid, but have exactly the same issue on
Ubuntu 12.04LTS.

The issue was not there on previous releases...
