The Debian package maintainer for Festival is Kartik Mistry (http://packages.qa.debian.org/f/festival.html). I think it is best to contact him and ask for the configuration change (I cc'd him/her). Next time Canonical forks Debian the changes are copied. With too much networks in the area it is almost impossible to browse the networks. I think festival uses oss, a legacy sound server that only allows one audio stream at a time for most soundcards. Look for an argument to make it use alsa. Or alternatively fool festival and route the audio stream through alsa: $ echo hello | aoss festival --tts You might want to install the "alsa-oss" package first. [Bug 164767] innd bootup script is crippled. creating PID file in non existent dir.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: inn When installing inn, the daemon starts and works properly. Upon rebooting the machine innd doesn't get started cleaming it can not descent into the directory /var/run/innd. Some investigation learned that the script /etc/init.d/inn contained some inconsistencies about which directory should contain the pid file. Below is a portion of the script as directly extracted from "inn_1%3a1.7 .2debian-31_i386", affected lines are 9,10,11,12 where /var/run/news should be replaced by /var/run/innd. There is no reason to assume a heigth or width is unreasonble as well as DPI. - This problem infact occured on my laptop that has a wide screen, this fix works only for 4x3 monitors. Even the common resolutions 1024x768 and 1280x1024 dont have the same aspect ratio. I'm not sure where exactly this bug occurs. Is it the monitor hardware, monitor driver, video hardware or video driver? In case it is the monitor hardware I think it is better to blacklist some troubles models and over write its values. I'm confident the models are detectable (but have no clue how or where this should happen, video driver?). Re: [Bug 107320] Re: Large font in the GDM login text field after installing xserver-xorg-video-intel which report monitor having 289x21 millimiters
Matthew Nuzum schreef: > The Option "DDC" "no" workaround fixes the problem for me, but I'm > curious if anyone can explain what this does? (quote from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Display_Data_Channel) "The Display Data Channel or DDC is a digital connection between a computer display and a graphics adapter that allows the display to communicate its specifications to the adapter. The standard was created by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA)." What in my opinion happens is that either: - your monitor reports the wrong physical dimensions - your graphics driver doens't interpret the DDC information correctly. My guess it is the latter happens as switching to another driver also fixes the problem for me (i810, although I think that driver has no 3D hardware capabilities). But maybe the i810 driver is simply incapable of reading DDC and therefor the error doesn't occur (ergo: it's your monitor hardware's fault)? Anyway, by telling xorg not to use the DDC information it probably assumes some default dimensions of your hardware which are more accurate than what DDC reports. //puccha BTW: This workaround not only fixed problems with the login screen, gdm for me but also: mythtv (video and live tv where squized) compiz-fusion (would boot up with HUGE titlebars) teamspeak (menu scaling was incorrect to the point it was unuseable.) -- Large font in the GDM login text field after installing xserver-xorg-video-intel which report monitor having 289x21 millimiters https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/107320 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

More specificly (I had to do some trail and error) add this line to your monitor section: Section "Monitor" ... #whatevert was in already. Option "DDC" "no" EndSection I had more monitor sections so make sure you pick the right one (or maybe all?). I now found out that this is caused because my monitor reports a wrong physical size: about 300mm width and just 20mm heigth. [Bug 110974] Re: bad overlay on intel 945 with experimental drivers
More details: - gutsy - intel 945 - 64 bit With the experimental drivers the image for videos using an overlay is scaled incorrectly as well as low saturated colours. situation 1 1) watch a video using mythtv -> the image is squashed in the x direction and has few colours. (image is almost grayscale and the width is about 1/6th of the original) situation 2 1) start totem (no need to load or play video) 2) start mythtv -> video looks good. (probably now using software overlay) situation 3: 1) start totem and watch video -> squashed and low coloured image situation 4: 1) start mythtv and watch video (squashed again) 2) start totem and watch video -> perfect image This is not just totem and mythtv, I noticed the same problem with arbitairy players. It seems to me the first program grabs hardware overlay (which is buggy) and the second uses software (which works perfect). When I switch to the i810 driver using the screen and graphics dialog, the problem disappears (but I'm not able to use the native 1280x800 resolution then). Furthermore in the login screen some fonts are about 10 times their normal size with the experimental driver. might be unrelated though. -- Kaffeine (xine) bad video scaling on intel video card https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/110974 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Team, which is a bug contact for kaffeine in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
