I have not fully investigated.
Got an unexpected notice for a partial upgrade.
Concerned that this might be FS corruption.
Not sure at this point.

During partial upgrade shim-signed gave error and got notice after reboot.
efi seems to work correctly - I have dual boot.

Re: [Bug 313114] Re: cpu fans do not activate and lm-sensors seems not to work correctly

2009-08-09 Thread pupfish
Thanks I will follow that with keen interest.

In fact, the current version of the kernel does a reasonable job of
managing the fans. There is an acpi problem, however -- on waking, fans
only operate in the state they were in at the time of being put to
sleep. So sleep when fans are off and wake with fans off, never to be
activated again. Otherwise fans run continuously at the speed they were
running when system was put to sleep.

Rebooting fixes that, of course.

Re: [Bug 296602] Re: all words typed are flagged as misspelled in composition window.

2009-01-14 Thread pupfish
No, it only happened after a fresh install. When I set preferences it
went away.

I sent it in the hope it might be a clue to an "initial state" problem.

[Bug 313114] [NEW] cpu fans do not activate and lm-sensors seems not to work correctly

2009-01-01 Thread pupfish
Public bug reported:

I tried to use fancontrol, but it seems not to get what it needs from
lm-sensors. Also, sensors reports the following:

bil...@mobile-pup:~$ sensors
acpitz-virtual-0
Adapter: Virtual device
temp1:+0.0°C (crit = +100.0°C)

coretemp-isa-
Adapter: ISA adapter

coretemp-isa-0001
Adapter: ISA adapter
Core 1: +54.0°C (high = +85.0°C, crit = +85.0°C)

I don't know what temp1 is, but I suspect it is wrong. I think the cpu
temps are correct.

This is an Acer Aspire 7720 laptop (just in case I'm not the first to
report this...)

English, US was the choice and that was correct for my environment...

FYI I've been using this for a while and it has not recurred. It
appears to be some sort of initial state problem.

It appears to be.

I installed the 64 bit version of 8.10 on my laptop and got the same
behavior out of the box.

Keep in mind, this appears to be an initial state problem after an
install. It is corrected just by *visiting* the spell check preference
in Evolution one time. Thereafter all is well and the problem does not
recur.

More background: 32 bit system was an upgrade. 64 bit system was a
fresh install. Also -- Evolution on the 64 bit system was initialized
from a backup of Evolution on 32 bit system. That backup was created
after the upgrade, but before I discovered the solution.

I know this is really a minor bug, but it might point to some more
serious underlying state problems... hope this helps!

[Bug 296602] [NEW] all words typed are flagged as misspelled in composition window.

2008-11-10 Thread pupfish
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

This turned out to be easily fixed by just opening and closing the spell
check preference. I changed nothing, but the act of opening the spell
check preference and inspecting what language was selected solved the
problem. After that only misspelled words were flagged during typing in
the compose window.
