[Bug 94017] [Feisty] Wrong xorg automatic configuration

2007-04-12 Thread quinnman
Public bug reported:

Feisty on amd64. I tried the restricted drivers manager to enable the
proprietary nvidia driver (currently I'm using NV driver). When I tried to
enable the nvidia driver, it informed me that xorg.conf was altered previously
and that I should Call sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorgto switch
back to automatic configuration handling. I did that. It asked me only for
driver (I selected nv) and resolution (I selected 1280x800). After restart the
screen was in resolution 1024x768. And x keyboard setting was English (I was
using Czech).
I tried using the nvidia driver. After restart (screen still in 1024x768) I
played with Compiz for a while and than I wanted to return to my previous
settings (resolution, x keyboard). I replaced the generated xorg.conf with the
automatically created backup. After restarting the PC, the resolution and x
keyboard were correct but Compiz remained enabled which led to rendering the
windows titles over the main gnome panel and some other graphical difficulties.
But Compiz could be easily disabled via the menu. Strange is that the nvidia
driver, according to restricted driver manager, remained enabled and cannot be
disabled without running sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg.
The problems are: why isn't the resolution recognized correctly (even though it
asked me for resolution), why it changes keyboard and how does restricted
driver manager recognize that a driver is enabled and in use?

[Bug 88514] Re: [Feisty] rhythmbox fails to play a track after a jump to the beginning of the track

2007-04-05 Thread quinnman
I still have a trouble with jumping to the beginning of a track but it's
no longer so obtrusive. Now it jumps correctly to the beginning of song,
starts playing, then it mutes for a few seconds and resumes playing
again. Clearly, there's still some problem but now it's not so serious.

[Bug 95023] [Feisty] Network manager doesn't allow static IP configuration

2007-03-23 Thread quinnman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

Feisty on amd64. Network manager doesn't take into account the settings
made in gnome-network-admin. I wanted to set a static IP configuration
but network manager prevented me from connecting. It showed a message
that I am connected to a wired network but there were only zeros (IP,
mask, etc.) in information about connection. When I prevented network
manager from launching automatically and restarted the PC I could
connect correctly.

[Bug 88514] Re: [Feisty] rhythmbox fails to play a track after a jump to the beginning of the track

2007-03-01 Thread quinnman
Rhythmbox ver. 0.9.8-0ubuntu2. After a deeper investigation it seems to be
badly broken. There are problems even in rhythmbox UI. It behaves strangely
(both with the panel icon and UI) sometimes it works correctly, sometimes
playing the song is resumed after a few seconds and sometimes it doesn't work
at all.
Running rhythmbox from console didn't reveal any errors but by running it with
parameter -d I recorded some suspicious behavior. I enclose to screenshots
showing the rhythmbox activity.

Public bug reported:

Feisty on amd64. I was unable to set a static ip address. After booting
the pc, the network manager applet showed some activity and it claimed I
am connected to wired network. But in the informations about connection
there were only zeros (ip, gateway, etc.) I wanted to launch a network
admin, but it crashed. After killing the network manager applet, I was
able to launch the network admin. Wired network was set to roaming (no
idea what it is?). I unchecked roaming and fill in the network static
configuration information, but after quitting network admin and
launching it again all data were lost. Than I manually edited the file
/etc/network/interfaces and added there the needed information. I
launched firefox, but with no luck. Neither after restart, I prevented
network manager from launching, I couldn't connect.

[Bug 86493] [Feisty] wrong keyboard layout

Feisty on amd64, my primary language is czech, as a secondary I chose
english(US). I use the keyboard applet, but it is not possible to change the

the first day, but the other day, I wanted to change the keyboard layout
from default czech to english, but nothing happened. The layout was
neither changed nor the icon (notification) changed. Right clicking on
the applet and selecting the desired layout from the first menu worked,
but it was still not indicated by the applets icon.

The sound can be muted anyway. I should add I am using asus laptop. Soundcard

Now, there is another problem. Today I tried it again and there is no OSD

[Bug 74779] Re: Connection with Static IP - does not work!

2007-02-09 Thread quinnman
The same problem in Feisty on amd64. Setting static IP doesn't work. Any time I
close the network settings the changes are forgotten. Even changing back to
dhcp doesn't work. The networks looks unconfigured.
Network manager helped me get to the connection with dhcp, but I had no luck
with static IP.
I included the file /etc/networks/interfaces.

[Bug 81623] Re: OpenOffice should be updated regularly

To have a new version of OOo every six months is really acceptable, but
according to the release plans of Ubuntu, we will have a stable release
