i overcame this through a trick advised by a friend. i have explained it
somewhere in ubuntuforums.org. i am embarrassed for not getting this bug
fixed yet..

Computer is not turned off at shutdown

Bug description:
I upgraded Maverick to Natty about two weeks ago. Since then, my computer
does not turn off itself. So, I click in the upper right corner (I'm running
Gnome2) and click Shut Down. All programs are closed, I see the Ubuntu logo
(and I can click Esc to see the terminal during shutdown).
At some point, I notthing seems to happen anymore and the computer stays
on. I press CTRL-SysReq REISUB. The computer restarts and I press the power
button to power off the computer.
I would love to help solving this bug, so which log files do you need?
