[Bug 1798679] Re: 18.10 installer crashed just after time zone selection
Hi Mathieu. The system (ASUS X97) has only one disk attached, an Intel series 320 SSD in M.2 form factor with the motherboard configured to use the M.2 slot as NVMe. The disk is partitioned as a GPT device, with one (empty) EXT4 partition when the install starts. The install medium is a USB connected flash memory device. The selected install option is the first one for systems with no existing operating system detected. The installer proposes creating two partition, the EFISYS FAT partition and the remainder of the drive an a single EXT4 partition. I accept this and ensure "format partition" is selected. The confirmation dialog indicates these choices are selected Postmortem shows the EFI partition is created, the EXT4 partition is not. I am told this morning by a source of unknown reliability that my particular motherboard (ASUS Z97Pro) does not support booting from an NVMe device. This could certainly be the case. The Intel device works fine for storage in a live session when mounted manually. I can install Cosmic to the same system if I add a Samsung 580EVO SSD at port SATA0 and use that as the install target. If specified, the installer will properly set up the Intel device as an additional storage medium. So, given that, at this point it appears likely I experienced a motherboard limitation rather than a bug in Cosmic. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1798679 Title: 18.10 installer crashed just after time zone selection To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1798679/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 272137] Re: Printing from gnome apps doesn't work
I've just had this manifest today on Intrepid 64-bit after the update to the 1.6.27-11 kernel (and others). GNOME apps cannot print to my networked HP 2605DN Color Laser Printer. Firefox prints fine The Printer test page from system > administration > Printing > right click on printer prints fine The printer test page from the CUPS server prints fine Evolution prints Gedit does not print GnuCash does not print The printer test page from HPLIP does not print OpenOffice.Org Word processor does not print I can access the printer's built-in web interface and can execute the printer's internal test page in that manner. No error messages are displayed. Commanding the print works fine, HPLIP indicates a new job has been sent to the printer. The status light on the printer's front panel blinks once or twice, then returns to steady green (ready). HPLIP indicates the print job completed successfully, but not output is produced nor does the printer look like it's trying to print anything. The CUPS log(s) do not show any obvious (to me) errors. An HP Photosmart 1215 attached to a USB port works correctly, so I'm not in extremis here, but I am about of ink. -- Printing from gnome apps doesn't work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/272137 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 277404] Re: hp laserjet postscript text print does not print some characters
After installing the latest updates to the openprinting.ppd package the previously functional workaround of substituting the .ppd file from the Hardy repository now produces identical output to the latest .ppd file in the Intrepid repository...i.e., when printing from a text-based application certain characters are not printed correctly. Setting the printer to use the generic postscript driver via gnome- control-panel results in correct output, however certain printer functions are not available with this driver. -- hp laserjet postscript text print does not print some characters https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/277404 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

** Description changed: Binary package hint: hplip Intrepid Beta (fresh install) HPLIP 2.8.7-0ubuntu3 Symptoms: Printing from a text based application like text editor to my HP ColorLaserJet 2605Dn (using the recommended Postscript driver) results in certain characters being represented as empty squares. [Bug 277404] Re: hp laserjet postscript text print does not print some characters
I have isolated the cause of this to a problem in the openprinting driver file for the HP ColorLaserJet 2605 printer: /usr/share/ppd/openprinting/HP/HP_Color_Laserjet_2605.ppd.gz If you have a Hardy installation available, the workaround is to use the .ppd file that came with 8.04: 1. Open HPLIP and remove (uninstall) the printer 2. Open your browser and navigate to localhost:631 to enter CUPS. Click "printers" and remove the 2605 if it still shows as present. If prompted for username and password, use your normal Ubuntu username/password. Close the browser window. 3. Open a terminal window and restart CUPS (sudo /etc/init.d/cups restart) 4. copy the Hardy version of the 2605.ppd file (HP_Color_Laserjet_2605.ppd.gz) to /usr/share/ppd/openprinting/HP/ 5. Open the HPLIP utility and install the printer from there. That should update CUPS at the same time. 6. test. Alternate workaround if you don't care about doing things correctly: In your Hardy installation, find the file /etc/cups/ppd/HP_Color_Laserjet_2605dn.ppd. Copy that file to your Intrepid's /etc/cups/ppd/HP_Color_Laserjet_2605dn.ppd (replacing the existing file) and restart cups ( sudo /etc/init.d/cups restart). -- hp laserjet postscript text print does not print some characters https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/277404 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd Installing the radeonhd package from repositroy into Hardy Alpha1+. The package appears to install normally, but due to the lack of an X configuration file, the driver is not loaded when the X server restarts. Workaround: After installing the xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd package from repository in the normal manner, open a terminal window and run sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg and follow the prompts. When selecting a video driver, note that radeonhd is not presented as an option (bug filed separately) so select vesa here and complete the process. Then, using your root permission text editor of choice edit the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf to replace the argument "vesa" with "radeonhd" in the "Driver" line of the device section. Save and restart the X server ++ or reboot as desired. When the machine restarts and after a normal log in, you can confirm the radeonhd driver is loaded by examining /var/logs/Xlog.0 in a text editor. I resolved the problem, temporarily, by purging CUPSYS and installing the 1.2.8-0ubuntu6 packages manually. The -devs are still broken, but the mains will install fine locally from .debs and CUPS goes back to work. One loses any installed printers and configurations in the purge, unfortunately, but they now can be put back, and it's a small price to pay to be able to print at all. Oh, the joys of working with a pre-release operating system, eh? IFbecause I don't know...apt-get works on your VM, you can update by doing the following two, separate commands sequentially in a terminal window (konsole) sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade I've been doing this for a couple of weeks, but I'm working a real install to disk rather than a VM. BTW...adept is still broken despite several updates since the bug was originally reported. Re: [Bug 62699] Re: [edgy] wrong dependencies in kdar
I've since found the Grsync package will do what I need. It also has more features and flexibility than KDAR. I resisted it at first because it requires some GNOME libs, but I ended up installing other applications that also needed a bunch of the GNOME support stuff (Gnucash, mostly) so the overhead of supporting Grsync became minimal.
