[Bug 555729] Re: package blcr-dkms does not support 2.6.33 or more recent kernels

2011-05-17 Thread reader4
Same problem with my system when trying to upgrade Ubuntu 10.04 to
10.10. In my case, 'aptitude why blcr-dkms' returned that there was not
reason to have blcr-dkms. To be sure, I ran 'sudo apt-get purge blcr-
dkms' before attempting the upgrade without luck. Using the workaround
suggested by Charles Opondo got me past that roadblock, however.

[Bug 364844] Re: network-manager-vpnc produces incorrect routing table

2010-01-04 Thread reader4
I am having a similar problem using an up-to-date Karmic Ubuntu 9.10
64-bit, same network=manager-vpnc as above
(0.8~a~git.20091008t124012.f5b95a2-0ubuntu1):

First, with NM-vpnc I get

Then using vpnc on the CLI
$ sudo vpnc-connect
VPNC started in background (pid: 10594)...

[Bug 367464] Re: Jaunty freezes randomly

2009-09-12 Thread reader4
Having a similar issue on two different systems - one using NVIDIA and
the other using Intel. I don't get any flashing caps lock. When the
computer freezes, I am able to ssh to the machine from another computer
and run commands. Applications running in the X window are frozen (eg,
downloads carry the 'last modified' timestamp at the time of the freeze)
and the only solution is the kill the session from the command line.
Usually that does the trick - but everything is of course lost. Is
there something useful I could pull from the command line when this
happens?

Re: [Bug 385588] Re: Nautilus not rendering fonts the same as other apps

2009-06-12 Thread reader4
I checked the the bug report you suggested:

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=308961

and included my information there. Seems to fit the problem - it's
likely Nautilus is decreasing the font size from 7 to something like
5-6pt when using 33% zoom (though hard to tell at that size level) and
that decrease is making it look so awful.

[Bug 385588] [NEW] Nautilus not rendering fonts the same as other apps

2009-06-10 Thread reader4
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Nautilus seems to be adding antialiasing to fonts that blurs the font
when below 8pt. I have my system font set in GNOME as Tahoma 7pt, with
full hinting and grayscale smoothing. This looks fine everywhere but in
the text of nautilus folders, where it is blurry and nearly unreadable
for some words when using 33% zoom level. Increasing the font size to
8pt seems to resolve the visibility problem, as does a zoom level of
50%, but Nautilus should be displaying fonts the same as the rest of the
system. The attached screenshot shows this discrepancy.

I agree with Nattgew. A noticable difference even when moving windows,
for example. Very snappy without blur... slow and lagging with blur
enabled. Gaussian is slower than bilinear (which doesn't provide much
blur anyway). No garbage.

[Bug 353895] [NEW] Cannot connect to FTP server from 64-bit

[Bug 245281] [NEW] support composer id3 tags

2008-07-03 Thread reader4
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Rhythmbox does not support composer id3 tags - searching, sorting or
organizing. These are critically important for classical music.
Searching for a composer's name only retrieves those entries for which
the name appears in the supported fields: name, artist, album, genre.
This is almost completely useless. For example, if I search for Bach
I get back about a dozen pieces of the 500 or so in my library.
