2012-04-07 Thread reagle
I'm just an ordinary user and the existing message is not helpful
whatsoever. I'm using precise and went to transcode a show, and my
preset options fail.

ffmpeg -i MB.S08E14.Cold.Feet.mp4 -b 885k -r 23.976 -vcodec libx264
-threads 2 -crf 24 -vpre medium -vpre ipod640 -acodec libfaac -ab 127k
MB.S08E14.Cold.Feet-renc.mp4

It took me a while to realize there's all this fork and politics going
on -- and find my way to this bug -- and I still don't know what to do,
what binary and options to use to transcode again.

I thought it would be safe to finally upgrade to Intrepid, but I'm not able to
use LaTeX at all presently. The apt-get install just hangs there -- it tells
you to wait, but never ends. So you must ^c and all your dependencies are
screwed up. It sounds very similar to this discussion/bug:

[Bug 234818] Re: encfs Unable to find cipher ssl/blowfish-v0.2, version 2:0:1

2008-10-24 Thread reagle
I'm glad I saw this as it could be a potential (big) problem. All my
partitions were created with Hardy standard mode which uses the
following settings:

Version 5 configuration; created by EncFS 1.2.5 (revision 20040813)
Filesystem cipher: "ssl/blowfish", version 2:1:1
Filename encoding: "nameio/block", version 3:0:1
Key Size: 160 bits
Block Size: 512 bytes
Each file contains 8 byte header with unique IV data.
Filenames encoded using IV chaining mode.

Will this no longer work? Before I upgrade, do I have to create manually
migrate my encfs directories? What's the standard mode in Intrepid?

Gutsy no longer mounts ext usb drive as sync, but is now using "flush" which
is much better.

[Bug 104241] Re: [feisty] slow external usb 2 ehci_hcd writes

2007-04-07 Thread reagle
It is automatically mounted with sync:
/dev/sdb1 on /media/wd1200 type ext3 (rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev,sync,data=ordered)

Let's try to change that:

mount -t ext3 -o rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev,data=ordered,async /dev/sdb1
/mnt/test

Much better!

urd:/home/reagle> time `cp test.mpg /mnt/test/test.mpg; sync`

real0m2.530s
user0m0.008s
sys 0m0.184s

So the question now, is why is feisty automounting usb drives with sync
whereas edgy didn't? How can I change this?

Problems in networking between 7.04 host and win2k guest OS in vmware

On a Dell Dimension e520 Core2 Duo e6400 2.2GHz with 2GB of RAM. When I
am running Ubuntu Edgy I have no problems using networking in VMware.
However, I did a clean install by disk of the Feisty Beta everything
looked great except for this puzzling issue: The Win2K VMware guest was
not able to connect with network services offered by the host (Ubuntu
feisty). The Win2K virtual machine is configured to use bridge
networking and can browse the Internet, and even ping the host but both
Samba and SSH fail to connect. I can connect to my Ubuntu feisty host
with those services from other Windows machines on the network. I tried
this using the VMware player and kernel modules that come with feisty,
as well as the tar ball of VMware server, neither worked.
