I recall this bug report. It was filed by me some time ago because of problems with a tecra laptop (hence, I assume, you contact me now). Bad news is, I recently changed the laptop because the LCD ceased to work, and the uni where I work provided a replacement (also a toshiba, but diferent make and model) so I cannot test it, as I don't have the hardware anymore; sorry about that. However, if it helps you boost your optimistic assumption, this might help: long after I reported the bug and found a workaround for it, I happened to reinstall Ubuntu on that laptop, not with OO, but Natty Narwhal I think. I don't recall having experienced any lockups after resuming (not that I tried it often, though), so I'd say NN worked out of the box. Can't be completely assertive about that, sorry. [Bug 550559] Re: hdd problems, failed command: READ FPDMA QUEUED
I have been this kind of errors since a month ago, and it's going worse. At first it affected MP3 playing, after that, video playing. [Bug 570083] [NEW] Laptop with 2 videocards: with propietary nvidia driver nvidia videocard works fine, intelvideocard crashes
Public bug reported: 1) Description:Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Release:10.04 2) no specific package 3) My computer has 2 videocards: NVIDIA GeForce 7600 and Intel 945GM. There's no problem with the standard drivers: it works with both videocards almost fine. 4) But when I install proprietary drivers I can boot with NVIDIA card with no problem but when I boot with the Intel videocard it says it doesn't find the video configuration. When I uninstall the NVIDIA proprietary drivers everything's fine again. I could live without the proprietary drivers, but when playing games the computer works better with them. This is my laptop (sorry I couldn't find the official sony page.) [Bug 522646] Re: return from suspend doesn't restore screen
Hello Brian, > Ahhh. Excellent detective work. So the question becomes, what does > this mean in terms of generic suspending and gnome[-power-manager]'s > generic suspend functionality? > I see that s2ram is userspace suspending vs. I suppose the default of > kernel suspending. Again, though, I don't know what the implications of > this are. Well, not much of a conoisseur in this topic, sorry. AFAIK, the choice for pwer management is not for s2ram/s2disk/s2both (which I must say, I have tried and worked, at least the first two), but for pm-utils, installed by default. I have the s2 pack installed, but they are not activated by default from the gnome utils, one must activate them via sudo from the terminal, and that is not that great. At some point I tried modifying the hal scripts (not my idea, found so in the web) at /usr/lib/hal/scripts/linux/* which I think bring the system into the different powersave states, but to no avail. I got a little bit tired of it and I don't suspend, but somehow I managed to hibernate... not the same but so far, so good. If you have some ideas on this to share, I might try them! Cheers, Ricard. -- return from suspend doesn't restore screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/522646 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 522646] Re: return from suspend doesn't restore screen
Hi, I also have a Toshiba Tecra M9 and had a failing resume after suspend. However, it might be useful to know that the following command issued from a terminal did the trick neatly: s2ram --force -a 2. The system suspends and recovers correctly. I am using Karmic, with the binary nVidia driver, version 1.85. [Bug 303854] [NEW] Printer support in Ubuntu is lacking
Public bug reported: I have an HP 1020 LaserJet printer which never worked with either Ubuntu 7.10 nor 8.04 I tried accesing CUPS and it does not even recognize any passwords (not even root password). The driver for HP 1020 does not work, it is simply dead. I thought about letting the community know about this bug. Having poor printer support can seriously stop Ubuntu from entering into a more Office environment. No matter what solution I tried, the HP 1020 never worked. If I ever found the solution, I would update you with it. It is a shame, Ubuntu is great, but being unable to print from it in part kept me on the M$ Windows side. :-\ Maybe should keep a closer eye on the CUPS / Printer support for future releases of Ubuntu. I heard it works great on Debian but never tried it myself. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Printer support in Ubuntu is lacking https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/303854 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
