Or I open a txt-file in nautilus via gedit, now the txt-file is in foreground : ctrl-f to search for a string in the txt-file and give in a string, leads to an input in nautilus, not in foreground, in the address txt-box of it, an editing of the txt-file it self is not possible. What I expect to happen : Reopen firefox leads the firefox window, nothing else Reopen an terminal leads to the terminal itself, nothing else. Public bug reported: Ubuntu 24.04.01 System resources near by 100% in use. Never had a problem in this case with Ubuntu 22.04.03. E,g.: firefox open with 10Tabs, visible in the panel. Get the application in foreground,open a new Tab, e.g.: with youtube as address, got immediately the message Box with two Buttons "Wait for response" "Kill the process" of the respective application, in this case firefox. I did check wait during the youtube page will appear, get again the message Box, again check "wait", going to fill out the youtube "search txt box" and will be 15 times interrupted by the message box and have to check the "wait" button. Obviously the application firefox works as expected, but the application time out monitor does not recognize it (same with nautilus). After a call of the resources monitor application, I could switch off the senseless time out monitor message box with two Buttons "Wait for response" "Kill the process" A workaround would help : How to switch off this senseless monitor or to set the time out to 1h ? Unfortunately even the /**/bitbake/bin/bitbake mask doesn't always work since bitbake's server can be triggered by other commands such as devtool or recipetool. In those cases, the glob doesn't match and you hit weird failures. It also has interesting problems with using BB_SERVER_TIMEOUT=60 since it can remain in memory with a different execution name. So far the only reliable solution I've found was to turn this restriction off entirely. Hi Sam, The popup is "needed" because special permission is required to "create a color managed device." This is typically relevant to fancy color- corrected computer displays and the like. The problem is that when you are logging in via a remote connection like VNC or RDP, there is no directly-connected monitor, and thus little point to the request. If you agree and provide the auth info, the system will probably be able to create that "color managed device," but it is unlikely to be noticeable in any useful way. If you don't agree, I believe nothing is harmed, and you can proceed with your session as usual. Hi all. Any update on this issue? I get the exact same errors on Kubuntu 24.04 with mysql-server 8. When booting I get the message "[FAILURE] Logrotate service failed to start". If I check the syslog I find the exact same error-messages as reported here: error: error running shared postrotate script for '/var/log/mysql.log /var/log/mysql/*log If I uninstall mysql-server the error-messages disappear. Hi Olivier, I have tested the new installer snap as suggested but unfortunately it doesn't seem to have made a difference to the behaviour. I will attach a copy of an autoinstall config which produces the problem for us (mildy redacted for internal network details). The way we're doing the zfs configuration might be a bit funky and out-of-date as this part hasn't been updated for a while and will date back to releases where support for it may have been lacking so some workarounds were required. (Our setup relies on other automation post-install to add a second device to the pool, for instance.) When this option is specified it is silently ignored and no warning is shown in the journald log. When run with `auditd -f` there is a warning message: "Listener support is not enabled, ignoring value at line" It appears that the daemon has been compiled without support for the listener code. But the manual page still states that this option is supported. It can take a user many hours to work out why the option is not functioning as the manual pages says it should. Trying to recreate our own execution environment inside this executable will likely be a bit painful and awkward. it isn't impossible but we'd likely have to add a new execution environment to our list at the top level in the way we have fakeroot and non-fakeroot environments today with new network and nonetwork options. There comes a point where this becomes so distro specific that we drop it, useful as the functionality is. [Bug 2055114] Re: fail2ban is broken in 24.04 Noble
Note that fail2ban is in universe, not main. This was surprising to me, and something I only realized because of this bug. I too think of fail2ban as a core security component. I wish Ubuntu would promote it to main, but that's a different conversation. Traditionally, being in universe has meant that support is "best effort". In my opinion, that was generally security/CVE support at most. Canonical has recently announced expanded support of packages in universe, which is great. However, I share your concern that they may not be able to keep up with all of the packages in universe. The core of the problem is the chicken-and-egg scenario of requiring GRUB to be installed in order to install GRUB. I just want to do e.g. "dpkg-reconfigure grub-efi-amd64" on a newborn system, and have the instalL_devices question come up. Right now, in order to get that, I have to fool the postinst script by running "touch /boot/grub/x86_64-efi/core.efi" beforehand. [Bug 2065639] [NEW] Splash screen shows Ubuntu 23.10 instead of 24.04 and forces logout
Public bug reported: We performed a minimal install of Ubuntu Server 24.04, disabled swap. This is a machine with limited resources (8GB SSD, 2GB RAM). Installed ubuntu-desktop-minimal, stopped/disabled/removed gdm3; installed lightdm and rebooted. After reboot we see the maroon X splash asking us to login. However at the bottom right of the screen it says "Ubuntu 23.10", not "Ubuntu 24.04". When we login by entering the password we get a white screen with a sad face icon and the words: "Oh no! Something has gone wrong. A problem has occurred and the system can't recover. Please log out and try again." Trying again results in the same problems. The above set of install steps works fine using the Ubuntu Server ISO for Ubuntu 22.04.4. Given the complete lack of any feedback after 8 months and now 24.04 being released, which ships a newer version not affected by this bug, I don't care about this bug being addressed anymore. It seems like there's virtually zero usage of this functionality, so this frequent denial of service during regular operation doesn't affect many other users. Public bug reported: [Overview] I have been testing installations of a number of Lubuntu and Xubuntu Noble Numbat 24.04 Daily builds since Feb 2024 on a DELL Wyse 3040 (UEFI bios), more latterly focused on Lubuntu. It would appear that since introduction of Kernel 6.8 into the daily builds, the installed system fails to carry out a successful reboot or power off when commanded from the desktop or the command line [Symptoms] When selecting either Leave-->Shutdown or Leave-->Reboot from the control panel, the process starts shutting down processes in an orderly fashion, until it gets to the part where it needs to power off hardware, where it hangs. shutdown -H now also fails in the same manner shutdown -r now also fails in the same manner With quiet bootflag disabled, the last system message on display before the hang is "Starting reboot..." or "Starting power-off..." [Workaround] The power button must be pressed for 5 secs to power down the hardware [Possibly related bugs] #1594023 Poweroff or reboot hangs. Laptop won't shutdown. 16.04 #2036987 Laptop Does Not Power Off After Installing Daily Build Of 23.10 [Unsuccessful Workarounds] Tried boot flags acpi=force acpi=nocrq reboot=pci suggested in #1594023 - No effect [Observations] I do believe that shutdown/reboot was working correctly on a live USB Lubuntu Noble Numbat Alpha build on the same hardware downloaded 22-Feb-2024. This release had an earlier kernel than 6.8. Sadly i no longer have the .iso to confirm this. This concerns libdpkg-perl 1.22.4ubuntu5 in Ubuntu noble.
In /usr/share/perl5/Dpkg/Vendor/Ubuntu.pm, there is this bit:

The issue may be that .NET 7, for example, needs to grab the .NET 6 targeting pack. I'm guessing that it cannot reuse the targeting pack that .NET 6 brings with it. Public bug reported: When attemoting an install of Lubuntu 22.04 Daily build 07.03.24 using manual partitioning with partitions across two devices, the install failed with an error (see screenshot) indicating failure to unmount /var partition. Error Installation failed Could not unmount target system The device '/dev/sda3' is mounted in the target system. It is mounted at '/tmp/calamares-root-7ckays/var'. The device could not be unmounted. Calamarares install session log indicates a timeout waiting for umount to complete (>1ms) for /var. When inspecting the mount state sometime after failure, the partition appeared to be unmounted, suggesting the timeout was not long enough. Tracked down the cause to the Docker host, which runs on jammy, not knowing about fchmodat2(). The syscall should normally return ENOTSUP when called with AT_SYMLINK_NOFOLLOW on Linux, but the Docker seccomp profile causes it to return EPERM, which confuses tar(1).
