Re: [Bug 311581] Re: MASTER Network Manager integrated ppp support - should allow the configuration of dial up modems
Or to put daf's point from my point of view as a completely non-technical user, it used to work fine by clicking on network manager (whatever underlying program this was I don't know) and filling in the phone number. Now it's broken. Why has something which worked fine been removed? As I originally posted when I had this bug filed under another bug report, it's not an issue to me when my normal broadband connection is working, but when my broadband provider goes 'bust' (as they have done twice now), or has a service problem it leaves me in the intolerable position of not being able to get on-line at all, not being able to email my provider to find out what's going on, not being able to get on the internet to arrange another provider, not being able to get my bank statements, not being able to recieve my emails, not being able to access my online diary and documents etc, etc, etc. On 19 August 2010 06:33, daf dav...@gmail.com wrote: Mathieu, I understand that technology *can* have a role to play (though I think that role is not as major as you might think here). Oh, and I forgot to say, not being able to download any additional software to get the modem going, and not being able to look at these bug reports to find a work-around. Most frustrating. [Bug 355553] [NEW] Cannot use dial-up networking in Ubuntu 8.10
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 8.10 won't connect to the internet using a dial-up modem. Tried to connect using wvdial, but although this connects network manager prevents the system from accessing the connection. The only way to connect to the internet that I've found is to uninstall network manager. After network manager is uninstalled it's possible to connect to the internet using dial-up, but a number of other programs which rely on the network are then broken, presumably they rely on network manager. For example, synaptic no longer works so it's impossible to install a dialler program to simplify network connection It seems that this change has been done deliberately as dial-up used to have it's own tab on network manager. This should be re-instated. Whilst I understand that dial-up is not widely used (I hardly ever use it myself) it is essential when something goes wrong with your ISP. Certainly here in the UK I have had an ISP go bankrupt 2 years ago leaving me without broadband, now my latest ISP has disconnected me due to a commercial dispute with Tiscali and it won't be possible to get re- connected for some weeks. In these cases dial-up networking becomes essential in order to keep a system running and an operating system which doesn't support it is severely handicapped. You probably won't get many bug reports about this because the people affected won't be able to get on-line to report it. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Cannot use dial-up networking in Ubuntu 8.10 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/33 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

According to the AconnectGUI and Jack's 'Connections' dialog everything is connected as it should be with Rosegarden midi devices routed through TiMidity, but no sound is produced. Playing midi files directly through TiMidity works fine. [Bug 121703] IMAP mail crashes when viewing message
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution Running evolution 2.10.1 on Ubuntu Fiesty (7.04) When I set up an IMAP account for my home email the headings are downloaded OK, although two identical copies of the inbox are shown. When I click on a message to view it evolution crashes and shuts down. Evolution can't be run after this as it tries to re-open in the same view every time and crashes as soon as it opens. Can re run evolution subsequently by deleting mail config and view files. Have set up an IMAP account for my work emails with no problem on the same Evolution installation. Can use Thunderbird with no problems on all my IMAP accounts. [Bug 121703] Re: IMAP mail crashes when viewing message
I've attached a backtrace (I think!). This is from restarting evolution with an IMAP account open so it tries to show the selected email and immediately crashes. ** Attachment added: backtrace http://launchpadlibrarian.net/8164051/gdb-evolution.txt -- IMAP mail crashes when viewing message https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/121703 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
