[Bug 1848180] Re: LVM initrd fails to activate btrfs multidevice root

2019-10-19 Thread rivode
I have a similar setup, but LVM is wrapped in LUKS as well. When I was
dropped to the initramfs shell during boot (after entering the LUKS
passphrase), I think this was how I got the system to start:

 /sbin/lvm vgchange -a y
 mount -o subvol=root /dev/mapper/(one-of-the-root-volumes) /root
 exit

I can confirm next time I restart.

[Bug 1443434] [NEW] VLC's image is scrambled when using XVideo

2015-04-13 Thread rivode
Public bug reported:

I'm getting purple or green spots on the video picture when playing
videos with VLC. I changed the video output to OpenGL or X11, and the
problem went away. When the window is maximized or full screen, the
picture is fine.

This message appears when starting VLC:

Failed to open VDPAU backend libvdpau_i965.so: cannot open shared object
file: No such file or directory

but I didn't find this file when searching packages.ubuntu.com.

I haven't noticed this in any other applications, but I've only tried
Totem, which works fine.

[Bug 1028668] Re: bootwait option does not work for swap partitions (needed for encrypted swap)

2013-05-04 Thread rivode
My partitions look like this:

 LUKS -> LVM -> ( ROOT, SWAP )

I'm asked for the passphrase for LUKS, but swap isn't activated at boot.

I edit /etc/init/mountall.conf from this:

exec mountall --daemon $force_fsck $fsck_fix

to this:

mountall -v $force_fsck $fsck_fix
swapon -a -v
exit

Swap is now active at boot, and the "Hibernate" option now appears in
the system menu (after enabling hibernate in polkit).

I'm running Raring, but I had to mess around during installation to get
encrypted root since the live cd installer doesn't seem to handle this
setup.

You're right, wicd seems to work for me as well.

It turns out network-manager and wicd can co-exist (I'm keeping network-
manager for its wireless internet support) - add a line like this to

  iface eth1 inet manual

it.

[Bug 608242] [NEW] Trying to add a printer via USB to parallel fails without a useful error message

2010-07-21 Thread rivode
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cups

I tried to add a printer using a USB-to-parallel adapter, by using the
URI file:/dev/usb/lp0. The printer manager (system-config-printer)
failed with the message "client-error-not-possible".
/var/log/cups/cups/error_log didn't contain anything useful.

I changed the logging level to "debug", and tried again. I found this
message in the log:

D [21/Jul/2010:22:57:54 +0930] CUPS-Add-Modify-Printer client-error-not-
possible: File device URIs have been disabled! To enable, see the
FileDevice directive in "/etc/cups/cupsd.conf".

It would be nice if this message appeared with the logging level set to
the default "warn" (or better still, appeared in the the printer
manager).

I'm using cups 1.4.3-1ubuntu1 on Lucid.

[Bug 278933] [NEW] Guest samba share stops working when winbind is installed

2008-10-06 Thread rivode
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

I have a Samba share configured to provide read/write access without
authenticating. This worked fine until I installed Wine. I removed
wine, and it worked fine again. I narrowed the offending package down
to winbind.

The share is configured like this:

[rwshare]
path = /data/sharerw
read only = no
writeable = yes
guest only = yes
guest ok = yes
create mask = 0664
directory mask = 0775
force group = download

I also have a read-only share, which works fine regardless of whether
winbind is installed:

[share]
comment = General share
path = /data/Share
read only = yes
guest only = yes
guest ok = yes

Upon trying to connect to the read-write share with an fstab entry, I
get this on the (Debian) client:

and using smbclient //localhost/rwshare -U%:

[Bug 35530] Re: USB Keyboard not working

2008-09-20 Thread rivode
Just a comment about a similar problem I'm having...

I have a PS/2 mouse/keyboard to USB adapter (USB ID 13ba:0017).  The
PS/2 keyboard works fine in the Grub menu (presumably this is the BIOS
emulation working here) but once the kernel starts it doesn't work at
all. This is for typing in a LUKS passphrase (this happens in the
initrd), once the system has started (ie. press ctrl+shift+f1 on the
laptop keyboard, the other one doesn't work) nor does it work in gdm.
However, the PS/2 mouse attached to it works fine (this mouse does USB
also via an adapter).

I also have a docking station with PS/2 ports on it, and that works fine
with a PS/2 keyboard provided I attach the laptop before I turn it on.
(I don't know how this docking station works, but it might have USB ID
0930:0403 or it might send the PS/2 signals straight to the docking
connector.)

[Bug 186517] [NEW] LUKS (cryptsetup) + evms = unbootable machine

2008-01-27 Thread rivode
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evms

I have an encrypted root partition that works with the standard
"cryptroot" script in the cryptsetup package. I then installed evms,
then on booting, cryptsetup compained that it couldn't decrypt the key
for the root partition. I don't remember the exact message, but to me
it seemed to relate to a kernel module (possibly aes-256).

I used another kernel to boot (which didn't have evms in its initrd),
removed evms, ran update-initramfs -k..., and everything is back to
normal.

I don't have plans to use evms so this problem no longer affects me, but
I thought you might want to know about this.

[Bug 39414] Re: syslog is flooded with messages after connecting bluetooth usb dongle

2007-12-22 Thread rivode
These messages can be filtered out of syslog. The basic instructions
are here:

http://www.giacintosblog.splinder.com/post/15040472/Ubuntu%3A+Palliativo+per+il+bug+

You need to install syslog-ng, and add to /etc/syslog-ng/syslog-ng.conf:

filter f_bluetooth_error {
facility(kern) and match("hci_scodata_packet");
};

and change these lines:

filter f_auth { facility(auth, authpriv) and not filter(f_bluetooth_error); };
filter f_syslog { not facility(auth, authpriv) and not
filter(f_bluetooth_error); };
filter f_kern { facility(kern) and not filter(f_bluetooth_error); };

It keeps the log lines out of /var/log, but they still show up with
dmesg.
