[Bug 1796604] [NEW] blktap-dkms 2.0.93-0.7ubuntu2~16.04.1: blktap kernel module failed to build

2018-10-07 Thread rjasmin
Public bug reported:

upstream bug preventing libvirt and its depends from using virtual
network devices. This fails on buster, but is ok on stretch- somewhere
downwind of ubu16 we are ok.

its the kernel link to the dkms files that is broken. somewhat easy fix.
similar to vbox problems from time to time.

libvirt and qemu-kvm are the way to go- when it works.

[Bug 1581054] Re: light DE wont lock

2016-08-08 Thread rjasmin
lxde, during upgrade, the locker application gets removed and not put
back it seems. affects debian stretch too. I cant, thats why I filed the
bug here. ubu-bug is broken. If we could just clone and slightly modify
the reportbug to work with ubuntu servers, this may work better. I
prefer trac over all these spam emails.

[Bug 1582871] [NEW] fraunhoffer glitches

2016-05-17 Thread rjasmin
Public bug reported:

im guessing this is the right package here.(the hell theres no
liblame...)

-heaven forbid we use non-free COMMON codecs here, but Im getting a
weird glitch and its been happening for some years now.

Maybe upstream debian code.

You play music. time passes. You hear glitches in the music like
brownout or a bad tape. But these are mp3s...you replay the file
position and it sounds fine.

process repeats.

my files are otherwise fine.

---and I cant use mp3 diags to fix my files, it keeps saying it needs to
reload.

this should never be. Im thinking its a glitch in the codec somewhere.
happens randomly but peridically repeatable when playing back music.

Im on SATA 8mb buffered drive with GIGS of RAM and hardly nuthin running. This
shouldnt be happening.
Dunno if vorbis has this issue because all of my hardware(even itunes) prefers
mp3.

nightengale more specifically is restricted now to free only and im not
seeing the option for plugin as non-free mp3 support. ubu plays FREE
codecs fine, so y use nightengale? (pointless drivel)

but multiple projects are affected by this. rpmfusion was notified of
this but shrugs shoulders as what to do.

[Bug 1482486] [NEW] slower than slow repo activity

2015-08-06 Thread rjasmin
Public bug reported:

Im getting dial up speeds from all ubuntu repos even though I am on a
fibre connection with MEGAbit speeds available to me. I can stream TV
just fine and speed test reports show the proper speed as ISP has
guaranteed to me.I have over four devices attached at any one time to
the net and I can fax just fine over VOIP. Browsing the net seems to be
affected as well, but only recently when using ubuntu and derivatives.
Using multiple connections via apt-fast has increased bandwidth somewhat
but not noticeably. Dunno where else to post this issue.

[Bug 1482485] [NEW] booted from wifi net on channel change

2015-08-06 Thread rjasmin
Public bug reported:

KDE network management (and possibly gnome network-manager) drops
connections if for any reason your router changes channels on you or
gets 2.5Ghz channel jammed. This situation requires a reboot to fix.
Once the channel changes, your network is no longer visible, even if
other devices can find it. Devices should fix themselves by auto-
negotiating the connection and detect the channel change or switch to
5Ghz network(usually with same name). This may be an upstream debian
bug.

[Bug 1482430] [NEW] report a bug button failure

2015-08-06 Thread rjasmin
Public bug reported:

Someone needs to reset the bug reporting button to show up by default.
It simply isnt there. I login to launchpad to file a bug but simply
cannot.

Using said button loads a runaround page here:

Instead it should load the bug reporting form here:

[Bug 1482429] [NEW] KDE fails to load after adding user data(14.04.3LTS)

2015-08-06 Thread rjasmin
Public bug reported:

Upon installing and after upgrading to latest install, after adding packages
and adding user data, KDE will no longer load on Tahir. Before loading user
data everything loaded ok.
I skipped moving back all of the . folders I could think of that would cause
conflict.

I have removed the .kde folder and the result after rebooting is the
same. There is no crash to report but KDE hangs and the world icon (icon
#3) and refuses to continue. DBUS issue?

I thought at first this may be a SELinux issue, so I unset enforcing
mode but the result is the same. You can kill xorg and restart it and the
problem persists.

As this affects kde-session on kubuntu I dont know where to begin to
report this. Installing MATE for some reason does not result in the
session getting added to the login list, so I am forced to reformat to
add another desktop.

This SIMPLY SHOULD NOT BE NECESSARY.Using MATE Ubuntu results in corrupt
video output and the OS is unusable. As debian is not affected in this
way, I will assume this is an ubuntu bug. Why ubuntu has banned a
perfectly GOOD DE is beyond me, it does not conflict with gnome3 in any
way. MATE is a perfectly good fallback when GNOME3 refuses to load. Yet
I cannot seem to install it alongside any other desktop and get it to
work. The proper packages install, but MATE is not selectable as a login
option.

[Bug 1482433] [NEW] ubunt-bug aborts

2015-08-06 Thread rjasmin
Public bug reported:

In a lot of places we are told to use ubunt-bug to trip apport to send
bugged information somewhere. When you use the said app, it panics and
exits out, not reporting anything. It produces no error code.

I tried two different ways to report a kde-session bug and got thrown
back to a terminal one time and told I was using non-standard X packages
another time, which is an outright LIE as I am using kubuntu live
media(14.04.3). Users will find this application difficult to use and
therefore either not use it or not know where to turn to file bugs.

Launchpad is suggested but filing a launchpad bug is bugged in
itself.(another bug report) Then there is the method using
errors.ubuntu.com instead of launchpad. The reporting method and such
needs to be more centralized and standardized. There is no reason why
errors have to sent in seperately, they can be attached to launchpad
reports. Asking a user to reboot after updating is pointless on a live
cd. It accomplishes nothing.

[Bug 1471504] Re: X11 crashes when opening LibreOffice

2015-07-30 Thread rjasmin
It has to do with the open sourced ATI driver. Im using an ATI HD7850,
two of them. This is a problem for v14 as well. Ubuntu is the only
distribution having this bug. Fedora and Debian do not have this issue.
Gallium .4 works with this hardware.

This is a really odd bug because Fedora team have found a way to mimic
the proprietary driver functions using open source ATI drivers.Im
surprised they havent backported the changes so that debian based
systems can benefit. Even OpenCL is supported this way. On other setups
you need the fglrx packages installed for this to work correctly.

Also Im suprised that Debian has the lead lately with stretch. I thought ubuntu
was based off of sid releases. You seem to be a tad behind.
I would have to try again with a live cd, as Im on debian. Will have to get
back to yall.

[Bug 1471519] [NEW] distribution is using non-free by default

2015-07-05 Thread rjasmin
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

kernel, firefox, thunderbird, openssl all are using non-free by default.

kernel uses wifi and other binary blobs not compatible with a FREE license.
Suggest changes made by the FSF in South America be used. They have a stripping
script all made up for you.

firefox/thunderbird suffer from branding trademarks-- use Icedove and IceWeasel
instead.
openssl is shipped with trademarked, patented encryption by default. Elliptic
curves, IDEA, and similar
softwares given in the crypto package are NON-FREE. Suggest using the hobbled
Fedora version by default instead. NOTE: this will break any app depending on
said crypto, notably bitcoin and similar coin apps, as they use elliptic
curves. The hobbled version is available by unpacking the Fedora openssl RPM.
Current version is 1.0.1k from 22.

Since I am on Fedora 21, I cannot provide further details.

[Bug 83118] Re: Some Firefox components are non-free

2015-07-05 Thread rjasmin
IS MPL2 GPL compatible then? Theres no harm in adding in more Debain
packages.UBUNTU clearly abuses that privilege enough already. Why tread on user
freedoms and claim yourself free when you arent? Do like Debian does and
disable non-free until the user makes the choice to use it. Inform the user of
the NON-FREE changes like Debian does.PROBLEM SOLVED. No legal mumbo jumbo
needed.
Iceweasel and ICeDove and IceApe/gftp are FREE. Firefox and thunderbird and
filezilla ARE NOT. They are mozilla's means to an end and thier sacred cow on
OSes like windows and Mac.They have every right to restrict themselves
accordingly. It is unfortunate that Canonocial and Debian and Fedora teams have
to sit by and take this NON-FREE abuse.

RedHat themselves can ship whatever they want as long as they tell you
its NON-FREE.They have made it very clear that if you use RPMFusions
software Fedora team WILL NOT support you.If Canonocial wants to go that
route they are welcome to do so. Will come the patent nightmare and
licensing issues. Will come the need to charge users to use things like
DVD playback(already broken) and MP3 audio.

Linus himself is stumbling in the darkness and needs to be shown the
way.Being FREE is a concentrated effort, you cant just blow it off and
call everything free because you dont charge for it.The removal of MP3
codec from UBUNTU should have been enough of a patent nightmare wake up
call. I see how you stumbled with THAT ONE. What I dont see is this so
called FREEDOM on FREE software that is getting distributed on the net
everywhere by everyone. You cant have FREEDOM if NON-FREE is forced on
you.You have to be able to CHOOSE.

[Bug 1471504] [NEW] libreoffice crashes X11 on init

2015-07-04 Thread rjasmin
Public bug reported:

REALLY surprised this bug was never reported. Ever since 14.04,
libreoffice init crashes X11 and forces logout when launched. Other
distros are not affected.Users are unable to open libreoffice or related
files because of this. This is a MANDATORY MUST-WORK package for me, so
I cant use UBUNTU because of this.

It is hosted on google code, a dying service. FreePascal(coffee) OS.A
more basic version is posted there.I assume it works as the version that
I last built did not for some reason. Sources should be there via
subversion checkout.Thats what I tested with.
https://code.google.com/p/coffee-os/

It uses a basic VRAM scroll buffer and writes to it.

Examples are found elsewhere in C. (OS Dev pages)
Im in the middle of a fedup upgrade at the moment, but will see what I
can do.

I dont know how to write it myself, but the original kernel scrolling

Might try OSDev forums. Not that I know of.

[Bug 1239008] [NEW] qemu fails to scroll screen on ^Vidmem output

2013-10-11 Thread rjasmin
Public bug reported:

Pascal uses ^Vidmem for B800 console output. The terminal does not
oblige the Pascal OS code to scroll the output. Virtualbox emulation
works, so this must be a qemu bug. Using QEMU in KVM mode as Ubuntu LTS.

Source line to trip bug(in theory pushes VideoMem up one line):

procedure Scroll;
//this is whats causing crashes. FIXME:Virtualbox not affected.QEMU BUG?

[Bug 1169815] [NEW] permissions problem

2013-04-16 Thread rjasmin
Public bug reported:

affects aptitude, apt-get and synaptic:

/var/lib/dpkg directory and main files should be set immutable (+i) on
install, thereby preventing contents from being deleted and requiring a
reinstall to fix. (we should be working on a copy anyways..)

Since you have to be sudo or root to make changes to packaging
system(packages) it only makes sense that we limit the power of root in
such a case not to destroy the packaging system by mistake.

Just 'being careful' isnt enough. We are required to be root to do anything
with packages. We need keep from shooting self in foot.
backing up database/required files for proper operation each time packager is
called is another option. How feasable, I do not know.

I am not only one to encounter this.

[Bug 1073353] [NEW] nexiuz fails to connect

2012-10-30 Thread rjasmin
Public bug reported:

I can run Nexiuz just fine. Ask for multiplayer online..thats another
matter. I get the master server list in just fine...try and connect and
all I get is a terminal like response showing frags in multiple colors
which scrolls offscreen(1024x768), downloads some files and then
completely crashes(segfault?) the application, dropping me back to the
desktop.

This is playing in a window for some reason. This also reported on main
forums under 'CLASSIC tech support'. Affects DEBIAN also.
