The package uses CPU fallbacks.  The SSE2 optimized binary runs by
default.  If the optimized binary detects that SSE2 is not available but
MMX is, then john-non-sse is used. If MMX is not a available either,  then
john-non-mmx is used.

I don't use Ubuntu. I maintain the package in Debian.AFAIK the package is
still working in Debian.  A couple of months ago I prepared a package for
v1.8.0 just in case someone want to try it and check if this solves the
problem in Ubuntu.

I just uploaded scidavis 0.2.4-3 to Debian fixing the FTBFS:
  * Add Build-Depends on libqtassistantclient-dev (Closes: #618199)

Please resync with this revision instead of 0.2.4-2
