[Bug 243731] Re: uvcvideo: USB cam hangs after a few seconds (Patch available upstream)

2008-11-17 Thread romassi
My Dell Mini suffers the same problem...Sometimes all the system crashes after
trying using the webcam (with any software, like cheese skype or dell video
chat).
I hope the solution should be soon backported to hardy (and so to the Dell
Ubuntu lpia-version dedicated to Mini) due to the number of customers involved
onto this problem

[Bug 59695] Re: High frequency of load/unload cycles on some hard disks may shorten lifetime

2007-12-14 Thread romassi
I finally fixed on my laptop (Acer Aspire 1662, Kubuntu Gutsy 7.10 - HD
Hitachi Travelstar 60 GB) by editing the file:

/etc/hdparm.conf

with:

/dev/hda {
apm = 255
spindown_time = 255
}

No more parking at all and non problems of over-heating.

My girlfriend's laptop (Toshiba A100, Kubuntu Gutsy 7.10 and HD Toshiba 120 GB)
reached about 26000 cycles in about 110 hours of use.
The option below (apm=255) seemed not to do anything. I tried apm = 254 and it
stopped clicking at all but the operating temperature of HD was increased
dramatically. So I choosed a value of apm = 210 which caused a good compromise
between parking and over-heating.

I hope my personal experience could be useful...

[Bug 59695] Re: default value in power.sh potentially kills laptop disks

2007-10-25 Thread romassi
I think I have the same problem with my 3 years old Acer Aspire 1662wlm...
My notebook has a shining new HD Hitachi 5k100 60 GB, the previous 2 Hitachi HD
were broken (the first on January 2007 after more than 2 years using XP and
just 6 months of using Kubuntu, the second broken on September 2007)...All the
HD has been replaced in warranty (now my warranty is expired) due to an
extension I (fortunately) made on 2004.
All my HD clicked on idle much much more under Kubuntu than under XP, but I
dint't think it could generate a mechanical problem...
For my new Hitachi SMART reports about 3200 load_cycle_count after about 81
Power_on_hours...I thing my brand new HD is not safe with Gutsy and I have no
more warranty from Acer to be used; all the suggestions proposed by all of you
didn't produce any change on my laptop that still clicks on idle with a
constant increasing value of cycle_count.
I gently ask Ubuntu developers to try to find a solution, if a solution exists,
for this strange behaviour; I love Kubuntu OS and I don't want to go-back to
win

[Bug 153943] Re: Gdebi-kde uses massive amounts of memory!

2007-10-19 Thread romassi
I experience the same problem from tribe version of Kubuntu gutsy to the actual
stable release.
Nothing changed during all upgrades.
No crash log for me too...the installation process with gdebi is VERY slow and
resource-expensive but ends correctly.
I suggest using kpackage instead of gdebi-kde until this bug is solved: there
are no problems neither in cpu usage nor in massive memory allocation.

[Bug 154306] gdebi very slow - high memory usage

2007-10-19 Thread romassi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdebi-kde

My system is Kubuntu Gutsy.
When I install a package *.deb using gdebi-kde I experience an impressive
growth in memory allocation (about 400 MB of physical RAM and 350 MB of Swap
over the previous allocation) associated with a CPU usage near to 100%.
During installation the system is almost unusable. At the end, after closing
gdebi, memory allocation reverts to a normal value.
I tried kpackage instead of gdebi and all works fine, installation is fast and
without memory/cpu troubles.

** Affects: gdebi (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 153926] Re: Distribution Upgrade says There are no upgrades available for your system. The upgrade will now be canceled when updating Gutsy RC to Gutsy Official

2007-10-18 Thread romassi
Same problem for me.
I've installed gutsy on 3 PCs (2 notebook and 1 desktop) since the release of
tribe versions and regularly-daily updated all of them.
Last update found this morning (19 October).
This evening I noticed the bug: the version updater option in Adept manager is
active even if the system is correctly updated.
I think the updater tool always undo all the changes made (including the
erasing of itself) because it consider an error during upgrade the fact that
the system is yet updated.

[Bug 64156] adept crash - Kubuntu Edgy Beta

2006-10-05 Thread romassi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: adept

I installed Kubuntu Edgy Beta yesterday. After a pair of automatic updating of
the system (with adept) now it's impossible to use Adept because it crashes
whenever I launch it. Ever after booting up the system it crashes automatically
and appears the KDE crash splash info. I installed also Synaptic but it also
crashes when launched.
In the terminal it's impossible to use apt-get command because it reports
Segmentation fault of packages 0%. (I've the italian language version and
this is wrongly translated in segmentation faulta dei pacchetti in corso 0%).
Forgive me for my bad English and for I'm not un experienced user.
