[Bug 2067374] Re: gnome-shell very high cpu usage

2024-05-29 Thread s.illes79
I can confirm that manually copying the i915 firmware
from
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git/tree/i915
to /lib/firmware/i915

regenerate initramfs and reboot.

All normal.

So upgrade broken the 915 firmware package.

Same issue reported here:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1514352/ubuntu-24-04-with-nvidia-driver-
libegl-warning-egl-failed-to-create-dri2-scre

Looks like the solution/hack might be to copy drivers from
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-
firmware.git/tree/i915

I noticed:
|W: Possible missing firmware /lib/firmware/i915/mtl_gsc_1.bin for module i915

ls -l /lib/firmware/i915/mtl_huc_gsc.bin*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 143249 Apr 10 00:14
/lib/firmware/i915/mtl_huc_gsc.bin.zst

files are there but zipped.

[Bug 2067374] [NEW] gnome-shell very high cpu usage

2024-05-28 Thread s.illes79
Public bug reported:

Few days ago upgraded from 23.10 to 24.04

After upgrade nvidia drivers broke I couldn't even log in. I fixed that
by purging and reinstall.

Now I can only log in to XOrg, cannot to Wayland is just black screen.

gnome-shell is using 200-800 % cpu, when doing anything ... like opening gnome
settings, using spottily

System temperature is very high because of this, laptop is hardly
usable.

Everything was normal in 23.10.

[Bug 1845046] Re: Bluetooth headphones/speaker default to low quality headset mode and fails to switch to A2DP when selected

2019-12-27 Thread s.illes79
Same problem with Sony WH-1000XM2

My workaround is

1. Turn on headphone, wait to connect with low quality sink
2. Turn off bluetooth, wait couple of seconds and turn on
3. Reconnect headphones.

Works all the time.

2. tried reloading modules:
sudo rmmod btusb
sudo rmmod btrtl
sudo rmmod hci_uart
sudo rmmod btintel
sudo rmmod btbcm btqca
sudo rmmod rfcomm

sleep 1

sudo modprobe btusb btrtl hci_uart btintel btbcm btqca rfcomm

no luck.

[Bug 1680904] Re: zesty unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference

2017-07-27 Thread s.illes79
I've been experimenting with 4.12.3-041203-generic, not crashes but
sometimes the screen goes blank for 3 seconds, from syslog

Jul 27 14:50:45 XPS13 org.gnome.Shell.desktop[1986]:
intel_do_flush_locked failed: Cannot allocate memory

it recovers nicely, no apps gets killed and nothing gets restarted (
other than gnome desktop ??? )

[Bug 1680904] Re: zesty unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference

2017-07-26 Thread s.illes79
this is ridicules, this bug was reported long time ago (2017-04-07), the
patch was created long time ago and here we go.

I might need to abandon the Ubuntu ship and install openSuse or
something else where bugs get fixed.

[Bug 1292398] Re: Second screen position isn't saved from one session to another

2017-06-01 Thread s.illes79
started happening with kernel 4.12.0-rc

if I plug in an external screen, configure the layout, than when I
disconnect and reconnect the layout is reset to the default.

if I boot back to 4.10.X all works fine.

Generally I'm having stability issue since
- upgraded to 17.04 - xorg freezes with kernel Ooops
- installed virtualbox - resume fails

I removed virtualbox and suspend seems to be ok
The bug opener also has vbox modules loaded, which makes me wonder if this all
coz by virtualbox?

anyone else with this problem also have virtualbox installed?

yakkety comes with /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/51-synaptics-quirks.conf
which has Option JumpyCursorThreshold in it .

So I tried playing with various values but had no luck.

Also

synclient JumpyCursorThreshold=10
Returns Unknown parameter JumpyCursorThreshold

Does anyone know why this parameter is gone?

[Bug 1636473] Re: random cursor jumps when clicking on dell xps 13

2016-12-13 Thread s.illes79
This bug is very similar to this:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/365943

I managed to reproduce as described in bug 365943, however it takes
20-30 tries.

Original i thought it was due to clicking but not,it's just multi touch
bug/regression

New steps to reproduce:
1. Touch the pad in the upper right and hold
2. Touch with another finger lower left and hold
3. Release the finger in the upper right
4. Repeat faster/slower until mouse jumps to lower left edge of the screen.

[Bug 1636473] Re: random cursor jumps when clicking on dell xps 13

2016-10-28 Thread s.illes79
Hi Chris,

1) Not sure, laptop came with dell version of ubuntu 14.04 LTS but i wiped it
on the second day, however i did not notice for those 2 days - maybe dell has a
patch ?
2) I'll try it later, right now it's not feasible - i'm on the move and
internet connection is a joke here.
3) I tried synclient AreaBottomEdge=4000, which slightly improved the
situation, but only if the click happens inside the bottom edge, if happens
outside than itis still possible to get random jumps.

[Bug 1636473] [NEW] random cursor jumps when clicking on dell xps 13

2016-10-25 Thread s.illes79
Public bug reported:

1 out of 20-40 clicks on the touch pad results in a pointer jump and a
"random" click.

Hard to reproduce, but mostly happens when I use my middle finger to
move the cursor and click with index finger. Sometimes the double touch
of middle/index finger is interpreted as mouse move, the jump is more or
less the same distance as if i had moved the index to the middle finger
position.

Cheers

[Bug 1619919] Re: Cursor jump sometimes by touchpad button

2016-10-10 Thread s.illes79
just made an observation, it happens when I use my middle finger to move
the mouse and click with index finger. Sometimes the double touch of
middle/index finger is interpreted as mouse move, the jump is more or
less the same distance as if i had moved the index to the middle finger
position .

[Bug 1619919] Re: Cursor jump sometimes by touchpad button

2016-10-10 Thread s.illes79
Hi,

I have the exact same problem on a Dell XPS 13. 1 out of 20-40 clicks on
the touchpad result a pointer jump and a "random" click.

It's very annoying.

Cheers
