Re: [Bug 876897] Re: Changing Default Application for Music/Video/Photos has no effect on some registered types

2012-04-20 Thread sae.area
Thank you for your email!

I think this is related, just not well described.
I think I remember that this kind of feature didn't work in MS Windows either.
The way I understand this feature is whatever application is set as default
application should be tried first to open a file with a probable extension.

2012-04-20 Thread sae.area
Thank you for your email!
Actually there is such an option, just at another place.
When you right click on the file and go to properties, there is a tab called
"Open with"
it lists a number of applications and you can choose one and click on "Set as
default".

In my option this does suffice. Having a global option, as in the bug I
opened (which is a duplicate of another bug), I think would make it even
more user-friendly. Otherwise I don't see the use of having the Default
setting control panel under settings, when that setting doesn't have any
effect.

[Bug 993495] Re: libreoffice crashes when trying to create labels

2012-05-05 Thread sae.area
I found the solution to this problem. It seems LibreOffice is not installed
completely. Went to the Software Center and found that Writer, Impress and Calc
are shown as installed, but not Base and also not LibreOffice as a whole. I
installed LibreOffice and it downloaded some 400 MB. Now Labels work.
I guess you can close this ticket.

Re: [Bug 945749] Re: Mouse pointer jerky on login screen

2012-07-12 Thread sae.area
Hello Jeb E.

could you check the following. With the proprietary driver installed, go into
screen saver mode (or some mode that turns off the screen due to inactivity),
log in from a different machine via ssh and check the CPU load via top.
(alternatively follow the instructions at the following link:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/969860)
I am experiencing the bug 969860 therefore I am staying away from fglrx.

Thank you very much.

[Bug 523027] Re: DRM Framebuffer crash; invalid framebuffer id; Thinkpads with Intel X4500HD

2010-12-19 Thread sae.area
Hi,

I have a Toshiba Satellite A210 with mobility Radeon HD 2400.
- 2.6.35-22-generic #34~lucid1-Ubuntu SMP Mon Oct 11 14:36:18 UTC 2010 i686
GNU/Linux
I got this error, but followed advise of #15 and it disappeared. I do have this
error again when I switch to VT2-6 via "Ctrl+Alt+F2-6" and upon returning via
Ctrl+Alt+F7 I find this error in dmesg. But the system stability seems not to
be affected.

[Bug 617455] Re: WARNING: at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.35/arch/x86/kernel/check.c:134 check_for_bios_corruption 0xcb/0xe0()

2010-12-22 Thread sae.area
Hi,

after resume I have this error too. ( I am pasting also the last lines of
message before the error )
One can also see the - [drm:drm_mode_getfb] *ERROR* invalid framebuffer id -
error which I used to get already during booting, but with the following kernel
option "memory_corruption_check_size=128K" disappears. Now it happens after
resume, or when I change to a terminal via Ctrl+Alt+F2-6 and coming back to
GNOME via Ctrl+Alt+F7.

[Bug 255678] Re: GSPCA webcam no longer working: no /dev/video0

2010-11-20 Thread sae.area
Webcam: Logitech ClickSmart 310
OS: Mint 9 (based on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS)
Kernel: 2.6.32-25-generic #45-Ubuntu

Plugging in webcam results in the following dmesg:

 [24398.959400] usb 3-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
 [24398.961440] gspca: probing 046d:0900
 [24398.994297] gspca: probe ok
 [24398.994453] gspca: probing 046d:0900
 [24399.291428] gspca: disconnect complete

No /dev/video0 is created

Both workarounds of #19 work (THANK YOU!):
after plugging in the webcam I run:
sudo rmmod gspca_spca500
sudo rmmod gspca_main
sudo modprobe gspca_spca500

or

before plugging in the webcam I kill:
/usr/lib/gvfs/gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor

Skype video options tests the cam successfully and Cheese works. No errors in
dmesg.

I've tested the cam on an older Laptop running Mint 9 LXDE. Same
procedure, but this time errors in dmesg as seen in #32

[Bug 255678] Re: GSPCA webcam no longer working: no /dev/video0

2010-11-20 Thread sae.area
Sorry, I forgot to mention that I always run Skype with "export
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so && skype" workaround.
Otherwise webcam does not work.

2010-12-10 Thread sae.area
Upgraded the kernel from 2.6.32 to 2.6.35. Problem still the same. But
for workaround to work I need remove one more module: sudo rmmod
gspca_spca561
