[Bug 1965177] Re: Kernel crash when plugging in dock

2022-04-05 Thread Azriel Samson
I tried booting with an older kernel (5.11.0-27-generic) which was
installed on my system previously when I did not see this issue and it
did not work. Any suggestions on how I should proceed?

[Bug 1843385] Re: package nvidia-dkms-390 (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: installed nvidia-dkms-390 package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 10

2020-06-16 Thread Samson
I think I'm having the same issue as well, though due to a mysteriously
broken 5.4.0 kernel (all of them in fact won't pass 'loading ramdisk'
before system restart) I'm running version 4.15.0 on 20.04LTS whether or
not that could be it I don't know. Apologies, I'm not a software person.

[Bug 1875916] Re: upgrading to 4.15.0-99-generic breaks the sound and the trackpad

2020-05-02 Thread Julien Gascon-Samson
kernel 4.15.0-99-generic: no internal sound / no sound through earphones
audio jack

kernel 4.15.0-99-generic-revert225, kernel 4.15.0-96-generic, kernel
4.15.0-91-generic : sound works as expected (both internal and through audio
jack)
[However, if my earphones are plugged in prior to booting, then no sound will
come out. I must unplug them (sound will come out through internal speakers),
and then plug them back in. Probably a different issue though, as it isn't new.]

For all kernels, I hear a brief clicking sound through my earphones when
booting and rebooting.

I attach alsa-info.txt for kernels 4.15.0-99-generic-revert225,
4.15.0-99-generic and 4.15.0-91-generic

[Bug 1875916] Re: upgrading to 4.15.0-99-generic breaks the sound and the trackpad

2020-05-01 Thread Julien Gascon-Samson
I also have this bug, Dell Latitude 7390, kernel upgraded to 4.15.0-99-generic
about 2 days ago, couldn't get the sound (internal laptop speakers and audio
jack) to work. However, HDMI sound through external monitors worked.
I'd be happy to run some diagnosis with the old & new kernels if that'd be
helpful.

Input methods with ibus-table e,g, ibus-table-scj6 ibus-table-cangjie and
ibus-cangjie are installed. These input methods can be seen in ibus-setup and
chosen to be used. But they do not shown up in the top panel drop down menu.
Neither they can be initiated by short cut key which is set as super-space.
ibus seems ignore all other input method except Chewing.

Since fcitx is also very buggy (for which i do not report here), there
is no better way to input chinese. Same problem may be true for all
asian language.

[Bug 1448555] Re: network-manager does not autoconnect to wifi network after resume from suspend

2015-09-27 Thread samson
I have a similar symptom; doing

  sudo iwlist wlan0 scan

after resume tickles NetworkManager into seeing there's wifi available
which it then connects to.

I did not test switching back to Upstart, however I am using
xfce4-power-manager as mentioned in Comment 7.
If I close the lid, wifi does not work on resume, however if I do:

  pkexec xfce4-pm-helper --suspend

wifi is correctly restored on resume.

[Bug 1241421] Re: Can't save nvidia settings in 13.10

2014-03-08 Thread Samson Yeung
I have this same problem in both 13.10 and 14.04. Whenever I reboot the
computer, the changed settings such as gmma value and brightness etc
that should stored in nvidia-settings-rc cannot be reloaded and the
screen will automatically reset to hardware default. There is no
workaround if you are using drivers 319 and 331- at least I cannot find
one. This is a bug that contain in the nvidia driver for quite a long
time without solving while I cannot see any action from nvidia to solve
it . The only way to work around the situation is using 304 driver. But
it doesn't mean that the problem is solved. After rebooting, you still
get the hardware default settings again. But if you run nvida-settings,
the configuration file will immediately reloaded and change to your what
you have set. Then you might think of starting nividia-settings
automatically when you reboot the machine and kill the program
automatically. The way I do it is

1. run startup
2. add to startup for 2 action, the first one is:
A. give the start up a name say 1-Nvidia X Server-settings. Start with 1-
is for convenience to quencing the actions properly on the list.
B. sh -c '/usr/bin/nvidia-settings' for the command line
C. Make a comment whatever you want. Then save and quit.

3. Once you retart the program, the added startup command will execute to load
the preferred settings.
4. But at the same time, the nvidia program will pop up for every reboot . You
might have to kill it manually. If you want to automate the kill, add the
following command after the aforesaid command in 2..
   A. give a name say 2-kill Nvidia. Start with '2-' make it just quence after
the above nvidia-settings command.
  B. command line field should write as sh -c 'sleep 2 killall
nvidia-settings' . Please note that the addition action sleep 2 is aimed to
delay the killall command for 2 second since you need sufficient time to let
nvidia-settings to run. Reload might be fail without this.
  C. Make whatever comment for the third line.

5. Reboot and your problem should be solved now.

Moreover, if anyone can work around the problem with version 331 or 319,
I would much like to know since 304's game capability is quite low.

Also 'Save to X Configuration File' button seems affect mainly to the
monitor's resolution and orientation etc and make no help to the
situation.

2012-05-03 Thread Jean-François Samson
Hi guys!

I hope this post could help...

I have two laptop: one which never has the bug yet and another which has
it very often (but not always).

The laptop which never has the bug runs Ubuntu 12.04 installed from the
i386 desktop beta 2 iso. (But I'm willing to install whatever Ubuntu
12.04 build you want on it)

The laptop which has the bug runs Ubuntu 12.04 installed from the i386
desktop release iso. (But I'm willing to install whatever Ubuntu 12.04
build you want on it)

I ran sudo apt-get update -y and sudo apt-get upgrade -y everyday on
each laptop since their initial setups.

Ask me whatever you want about my laptops. I can post any log content,
file content, command output or hardware specs you want. Just ask it, I
will answer it as fast as possible...

Have a nice day!

2012-05-03 Thread Jean-François Samson
Hi guys!

Thanks Michael. Today, before installing your patch, my laptop has the
bug a lot of time... But, now that I installed your patch, I achieved 20
login / logout in a row without any problem. Then, I achieved 10
shutdown / startup / login in a row without any problem. Before
installing your patch this would be strictly impossible. So, I
personnally consider this bug as solved.

GOOD JOB MICHAEL !!!

Re: [Bug 352887] Re: [LENOVO 7650C9G] hibernate/resume failure

2010-03-13 Thread Samson
Thank you, Jeremy.

Problem was solved by installing Ubuntu 9.10

On Sun, Mar 14, 2010 at 7:13 AM, Jeremy Foshee
jeremy.fos...@canonical.comwrote:

 Hi Samson,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try
with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are
 available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a
 Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically
gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

 apport-collect -p linux 352887

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-
testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon
next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and
deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your
 results.

 Thanks in advance.

2009-11-03 Thread Samson Yeung
dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -b -uc manages to create debs on my
system, so I am attaching a list of packages on my system.

Martin, it seems the package 'automake' is responsible for the install-
sh that configure is dying on for you. Is installing that package
sufficient to build debs?

[Bug 352354] [NEW] Gnome Volume applet crash with Logitech USB Adapter

2009-03-31 Thread Martin Samson
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 9.04 Beta 1,
The Gnome Volume Manager and the Gnome Volume Applet crash/hang when a Logitech
USB Adapter is plugged in and attempts to manage sound output/input are made to
the headset adapter. While the device is plugged in, switching the volume
manager device to manage will lock it. Unplugging the headset, killing the
gnome volume applet and re-starting it will allow managing sound devices again,
until the headset is re-plugged.

This seems to be a problem with the new volume management in 9.04 since
8.10 had no problems using the device on the same hardware (Computer)

Worked flawlessly with Ubuntu 8.10.

[Bug 341592] [NEW] Right click no longer shows keyboard shortcuts

2009-03-12 Thread Samson W
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tilda

Upgraded to Intrepid from Hardy. In Hardy, when you right click on the
Tilda window, the New Tab, Close Tab, Copy, Paste etc menu, it would
also tell you the keyboard shortcuts for each of these actions e.g. New
Tab Ctrl+Shift+T

In Intrepid, the menu only shows New Tab etc without the keyboard
shortcut listed.

The actual shortcuts still work, only it is not listed in the menu for
reference anymore.

[Bug 51488] Re: [Edgy] Kernel panic on boot

2006-07-04 Thread Richard Samson
Same kernel panic on boot with the latest linux-source-2.6.17_2.6.17-4.5
I could'nt get log.
I just saw the kernel panic when ata (libata) modules were loaded.

If I disable sata controler in bios, kernel boots fine
Info about controler :
IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801EB (ICH5) SATA Controller (rev 02)
