Public bug reported: Please add fuse.vmhgfs-fuse to PRUNEFS in updatedb.conf. Otherwise it collects data that is not a part of Ubuntu storage. I've done it for me locally as in the attached file. To answer your first question: I'm testing on a freshly booted system with no applications running. Regarding extensions: After I disable the Desktop Icons NG extension (appears to be one of the built-ins), peak CPU usage for gnome-shell goes from ~55% to ~35% when moving over an empty desktop. When moving over an application such as gnome-terminal, CPU usage for gnome-shell increases to ~60% both with and without this extension (and also gnome-terminal itself consumes about 25%). Public bug reported: Sorry, not sure you you will take it as a bug, but Ubuntu 20.04.3 (so as 21.*) doesn't recognize the touchpad on my Lenovo S145 and I have to tweak it (I found this tweak on web): 1. sudo gedit /etc/default/grub 2. There I change GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="i8042.nopnp=1 pci=nocrs" 3. sudo update-grub 4. restart Need to mention, until the above, the touchpad was not detected by the kernel(less /proc/bus/input/devices), and my system starts much longer after it. Sincerely think this operating system could be better. Dear Daniel, I tried your recommendations, turned off various devices but there was no effect. After that I downgraded the kernel version to 5.4, there was no effect, then I installed the 5.12 kernel, there was no effect. Same issue Interesting thing, i got that errors, but all work fine, except libvirt/qemu/kvm, my VM didn't start. I go to logs and see that errors about i915 and suggest to restart libvirtd daemon, and when i stop admin socket ( meaning: sudo systemctl stop libvirtd-admin.socket ) system hangs up, exactly like in author post. It is 100% reproducible in my case: 1) Turn on notebook with normal fan speed 2) Switch to RU language and start pressing buttons under it in some editor. 3) Fan goes maximal speed without any chance to stop it. With what video driver i supposed to work then? `sudo powertop --auto-tune` As i said before and it still happens - my keyboard blocks in 100% after this command. I'm not able to run any other commands anymore. OK, issue is still reproducible. I should appologize that i havn't gathered it before. Anyway, below you can find dmesg's only with dyndbg="file drivers/pci/* +p enabled for two cases: 1) fans are OK - all files with suffix 1 2) fans are at max error state - all files with suffix 2 Description and names of files are the same as in comment #95. More observations: 1) to set fans into max state i just should input letters from keyboard in any cyrillic language (RU for example) for some time (not more than i min takes for me to reproduce issue).
