[Bug 1875528] Re: Extra frozen / stuck mouse cursor after auto screen lock / sleep

2020-11-07 Thread John in SF
This extra cursor frozen on screen issue exists in 20.10 Groovy Gorilla.
(Just installed 20.10 on Lenovo T14 AMD and have a few issues to
research.)

Actual behavior:
- Fractional scaling is on (actually needed to make laptop screen readable).
- Extra cursor frozen on screen.

Expected:
- Fractional scaling on should not cause an extra dead cursor on screen.

Remedy:
- Turning off fractional scaling makes the dead cursor go away.

If this should be reported elsewhere, let me know.

[Bug 945816] Re: [regression] Changing the HUD shortcut disables all Alt-based combinations. And changing the Dash shortcut disables all Super-based shortcuts.

2012-05-18 Thread SF Basilix
I have the latest patched update for 12.04, 64 bit and this problem is
still an issue. What's even worse is that with Virtualbox VMs running in
fullscreen mode, the alt+tab combo within the VM triggers HUD outside
the VM. This is not normal operation and should not occur until the
right control key is pressed (releases the mouse controller from the
VM).

I went ahead and moved the alt key trigger to the right alt key, but now
I cannot use any microsoft (super) keys within my Windows VM because it
launches the unity search bar.

These things should not be allowed to trigger from a full-screen VM.

[Bug 953386] Re: Disabling "Key to show HUD" disables the Switcher

2012-05-18 Thread SF Basilix
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 945816 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/945816

I am also getting the virtualbox/hud issue from the previous post (#6 -
Jamesasgrim)

The problem is that HUD should not be coming up in Virtualbox. It makes
it painful to operate in windows without being able to use alt+tab to
switch between windows in a windows 7 vm. More importantly, even when
the Virtualbox VM is running in full-screen mode, somehow HUD still gets
triggered from within the VM when an alt+tab is pressed. This is not a
normal operation and should only occur once the right control key is
pressed, which pulls the mouse away from the VM.

Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit, dell e6520, latest patches applied

I have opened Update Manager and clicked on the "check" button but there

OK, bigger problem now. With the newest kernel applied (mentioned
above), now that I can get video working, it will not shut down. When I
select shutdown, the machine just reboots instead. I cannot seem to turn

shutting down. Anyone seen this before?

OK, after a bit of help, I realized that the x86_64 kernels are also in
the amd64.deb files. Therefore, the following files were downloaded and
installed on my laptop:

linux-headers-2.6.35-020635rc1-generic_2.6.35-020635rc1_amd64.deb
linux-image-2.6.35-020635rc1-generic_2.6.35-020635rc1_amd64.deb
linux-source-2.6.35_2.6.35-020635rc1_all.deb

My system booted up this time without the blank screen, using the
2.6.35-020635rc1-generic kernel, however, a new error appearing during
the boot process:

"ureadahead main process 366 terminated with status 5"

is this a bug or problem in the new kernel that anyone is aware of?

[Bug 628986] [NEW] latest patch applied to Ubuntu Lucid (10.04) causes the screen to be black

2010-09-02 Thread SF Basilix
Public bug reported:

Yesterday, 9/1/2010, I received a bunch of patch updates for 10.04
(64-bit) and applied them to my laptop (Dell Latitude E6510, Intel Core
i5). After they applied, it asked me if I wanted to reboot now or later.
I chose later to finish my work and then shut my laptop off. This
morning, I turned it on, only to get a black screen during bootup and
also during login. I know it's working behind the scenes because I can
hear the drum sound when it's ready to login and I can still press the
power button and hit enter to shut it down (even though I can't see
anything). I tried using Alt+F2->F12 but it would only show a black
screen as well.

My temporary workaround was to hold the shift button during startup to
get the grub menu and then select the older 2.6.32-23 kernel to bootup
instead of the newer 2.6.32-24. I am able to boot ok in the older kernel
and it's working fine, but I don't know what is causing the problem for
the newer one and cannot boot into that one.

I believe I was running 2.6.32-24 fine up until I received that bundle
of patches from yesterday and applied them to my system. So the question
is, is there a way to figure out what patches were applied in
yesterday's bundle so I can back them out? If not, how can I fix this so
I can run the newer updated kernel?

[Bug 614920] [NEW] firefox will not play flash video (embedded youtube)

2010-08-07 Thread SF Basilix
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

this continues to happen quite often. I can sometimes play youtube
videos, but lately (more often than not), they just won't play -
especially embedded flash videos from youtube. For instance, this
website:

www.rovio.com/index.php?page=angry-birds-walkthrough-videos

is a great example. I press play, but nothing happens.

[Bug 596082] Re: [arrandale] Dell Latitude E6510 unable to use second external vga monitor

2010-08-07 Thread SF Basilix
I just checked in after a while, but I do not know what happened. I went
through the entire bug process and posted it here a while ago, but for
some reason it's gone. I won't have the time to test the above for a
while as I am really buried with a number of items. This problem still
exists and I will try to reply at a later time. @Corona, please continue
with your bug as it may get the proper resolution if you can follow up
with the requirements. Thanks!

[Bug 596080] Re: dell latitude e6510 screen stays black from suspend

2010-08-07 Thread SF Basilix
@Corona,

Please open a new ticket. I simply cannot keep up with all the bugs and
reporting online. Unfortunately, as much as I would love to right now,
I'm just so buried and will only cause a major slowdown in resolving
this issue. Please post your link to the same problem in this thread for
anyone else who is trying to resolve this and if you have time, I would
appreciate it if you can run with it. I know this problem exists across
the board with other similar Dell laptops as I have been getting emails
from others wondering if there's a fix. The problem should not be
ignored.

[Bug 596080] Re: dell latitude e6510 screen stays black from suspend

2010-07-12 Thread SF Basilix
Sorry for the delay and thanks for the assistance. I've attached the
files required per the wiki site and have a bit more info regarding what
is going on. As it turns out, this is actually a suspend issue.
Hybernation worked successfully, when selecting it from the pull down
menu in Ubuntu 10.04 (64 bit). What did not work correctly was Suspend.
Upon selecting suspend, the system does shut down and the power button
on the laptop blinks. However, when turning the laptop back on, by
pressing the power button, it does not awaken. The keyboard lights come
on and the hard drive makes some noise and shows activity, but I cannot
get a display at all. I've tried Alt+F1, Alt+F12 but nothing. The
system is completely unresponsive and a hard reboot is required to get
it back. I've attached the following files *after* rebooting the laptop
and logging back in:

1) dmesg
2) cat /proc/cmdline
3) cat /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume

The one thing I noticed when examining the cmdline and resume files was
that the UUIDs were different. Is this supposed to be the case? Should
I modify the /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume file to reflect the UUID
from the /proc/cmdline file?

Thanks.

[Bug 603673] [NEW] adobe plugin not fully functional

2010-07-09 Thread SF Basilix
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

When viewing certain adobe flash enabled sites, such as weather.com,
trying to use any of the functions within the adobe player do not work.
So for instance if you are looking at the interactive weather map on
weather.com for your region (see this link as an example:
http://www.weather.com/weather/map/interactive/10011?zoom=8&interactiveMapLayer=radar&from=today_media_map),
you cannot drag the map or use any of the zoom controls within the map.
You can only stop and play the map.

[Bug 596082] [NEW] Dell Latitude E6510 unable to use second external vga monitor

2010-06-18 Thread SF Basilix
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Dell E6510 with an Intel Core i5 chip and with the Intel graphics (not
nvidia). According to the Dell website, the Intel chip is: Intel
QM57/QS57 NB Gfx - Intel GMA HD

Vanilla install of Ubuntu 10.04 (I tried it with 32bit and 64bit
versions) with all patches applied (up to date as of posting).

Upon plugging in an external monitor using the VGA adapter and then going into
System->Preferences->Monitors, I get a black
screen and no mouse movements at all. System is completely hung - I cannot even
SSH into the laptop. Even CTRL+ALT+BKSP doesn't kick me out of X. I'm forced to
power off the laptop and restart.

System has latest A03 bios but it did the same thing with A01 and A01.1
bios revisions

[Bug 561802] Re: [lucid] [i915] blank screen on Latitude E6410

I just realized that the op has a separate issue - similar to the one I
have, but not the same. I'm debating opening a separate bug for the
issue I have.

[Bug 561802] Re: [lucid] [i915] blank screen on Latitude E6410

2010-06-18 Thread SF Basilix
I am having the same issue with my laptop. It is a Dell E6510 with an
Intel Core i5 chip and with the Intel graphics (not nvidia). Vanilla
install of Ubuntu 10.04 with all patches applied (up to date as of
posting) and I cannot use the external video display. Upon plugging in
an external monitor using the VGA adapter and then going into
System->Preferences->Monitors, I get a black screen and no mouse
movements at all. Even CTRL+ALT+BKSP doesn't kick me out of X.

I've tried all of the above options and they did not work.

Here is more info to help diagnose the problem, if anyone needs anything
else, please let me know and I will post.

System has latest A03 bios but it did the same thing with A01 and A01.1
bios revisions

Another approach but not full resolution:

I have been able to manually load the speciifc kernel following these
steps:

Boot to a Specific Kernel Manually
(https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2)

However, when I re-start, I have to do the same thing again.

[Bug 403408] Re: Grub 2 problem, error: no such device

2009-10-30 Thread John in SF
I also see this. My hardware : IBM x31, 1.7Ghz, 40GB hardrive, 1GB RAM.

Can someone provide explicit instruction on how to edit?

I see this comment below that was made previously but the problem I have
is how to actually edit the file.

"I edited /usr/lib/grub/grub-mkconfig_lib file . On line 147 I took out ALL the
info from inside the quotes. I had previously read that taking out the
"--no-floppy" was sufficient, not in my case. Simply uncommenting the line will
not work either.
So, line 147 should read: echo ""
After making those changes, "dpkg-reconfigure grub-pc" (without quotes) needs
to be run in terminal as root (sudo)
i.e. $ sudo dpkg-reconfigure grub-pc"

If I can get into this directory and file, I can do what is suggested
but a list of the commands I should perform would really help since I am
good at repetition and following direction. :)

[Bug 219914] Re: mod_disk_cache enabled globally by default

2008-06-24 Thread sf
This behavior is because in 2.0, proxy.load and proxy.conf contained the
"LoadModule disk_cache_module" and the mod_disk_cache config. Not
enabling mod_disk_cache on upgrades would break caching for proxies
(debian bug 407171).

Maybe enabling mod_disk_cache on upgrades only if something like

egrep -iq '^[[:space:]]*cacheenable' /etc/apache2/apache2.conf
/etc/apache2/mods-enabled/* /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/*
/etc/apache2/conf.d/* /etc/apache2/httpd.conf

(in preinst) gives true would be better.

[Bug 239322] [NEW] Browser shuts down when opening Gmail from Google home page link.

2008-06-11 Thread John in SF
Public bug reported:

When trying to open GMAIL from my iGoogle homepage, Ephiphany browser

GMAIL from iGoogle homepage, the Firefox browser completely locks up the
PC requiring a hard system shutdown/re-boot.

[Bug 235809] Re: apache2 startup script fails to stop apache2 at times.

2008-05-29 Thread sf
It is normal behavior that the apache processes stay around until they
have finished processing the currently active requests (since we are
using graceful-stop). Normally you should just be able to start apache
again even before all processes are dead. Is this not the case for you?
What error message do you get?

[Bug 230878] Re: Apache 2 produces an OOM after 4 hours using

2008-05-17 Thread sf
It would also be interesting to know what apache modules you have
enabled and how the output of top looks just before the OOM situation
(i.e. are there many large apache2 processes or only a few very large
ones?).

You could also try tweaking "memory_limit" in your php.ini.
