[Bug 1969294] Re: Ubuntu 22.04 gdm3 freezes with Nvidia GPU

2022-04-17 Thread Haitao Shan
Attach the syslog. The frozen session started booting from 13:34:54.
I used alt+ctrl+del to reboot and the last thing I saw on the screen was those
systemd-udevd logs at 13:35:54.

I was also able to reproduce the issue by only upgrading gdm3 from
42.0-1ubuntu1 to 42.0-1ubuntu4. Before the experiment, I used apt-mark
hold gdm3 to block the upgrade.

[Bug 1965812] Re: After "apt upgrade" around Mar 18, shotwell desktop slideshow does not work any more

2022-04-02 Thread Haitao Shan
Hi, Alexandru,

That xml does not work either. However, I happened to find out the root
cause in my system. That is related to dark mode wallpaper. See
https://twitter.com/alexm_gnome/status/1491527119389827074?s=20&t=j6y1hOlJlHulg57Ild47xA.

Once I set org.gnome.desktop.background.picture-url-dark to the same
value in picture-url, my slideshow is back.

I think shotwell just blindly set the picture-url key without knowing
picture-url-dark key.

You don't have to copy the XML generated by shotwell to gnome-
background-properties. You have to create a different XML (I named it
wallpaper.xml) with this code that points to the XML from shotwell:

Shotwell

/home//.local/share/shotwell/wallpaper/wallpaper.xml
zoom

Now, if you go to the wallpapers settings you will se your slideshow
there

background was changed to an Ubuntu default. I tried to set desktop

I guess something was broken by one of the upgraded packages.

[Bug 1965812] Re: After "apt upgrade" around Mar 18, shotwell desktop slideshow does not work any more

2022-04-02 Thread Haitao Shan
Thanks for sharing your experience. I took a look at my .local/share and
saw shotwell/wallpaper/ and the XML. I did not have .local/share/gnome-
background-properties either. However, if I copied the XML to gnome-
background-properties, it did not work for me.

I've tried to install Ubuntu 22.04 beta in a virtual machine and the
slideshow seems to work fine. I guess maybe this is a bug that only
appears when "apt upgrade". If that is the case, I think eventually no
one will fix the issue for me as any Ubuntu developer can mark the bug
something like "can't reproduce".

Log attached.
What I did was: 1> boot up Ubuntu; 2> use shotwell to set slideshow and close
it. 3> run the command you give to me.

Original my wallpapers are stored /home//Pictures/Wallpapers.
I don't know whether shotwell will maintain a copy somewhere after
importing.

NOTE:
if Subdevices: 1/1, index=1

I thought I'd reported this as package "mesa", since the problem appears
in mesa-opencl-icd. Maybe I misclicked or something. If someone
changed it to the Nvidia drivers package, could you please pick the
correct package for AMD drivers instead?

[Bug 1875091] [NEW] opencl fails with "pipe_radeonsi.so: undefined symbol: amdgpu_cs_query_reset_state2"

2020-04-25 Thread Shan
Public bug reported:

Both luxmark and leelaz, the two OpenCL applications I have, fail at
runtime with the same error, looking for "amdgpu_cs_query_reset_state2"
in /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gallium-pipe/pipe_radeonsi.so

This is on a system with a relatively new AMD GPU, freshly upgraded from
18.04. Leela zero worked correctly in 18.04, and I've tried various
compiler options, openCL config and such with no success. I don't know
about luxmark but installed it to test. Since it reports the same
error, I think it's a bug to report here.

I download this 3 package from `packages.ubuntu.com`:

http://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty/libnl-genl-3-200

libnl-genl-3-200:amd643.2.21-1 amd64

What's the different between `3.2.21-1ubuntu1`(crash network-manager)
and `3.2.21-1`(don't crash network-manager)?

[Bug 1045914] Re: Keyboard layout doesn't show in GNOME Shell session

2013-03-22 Thread shan
yes very same here in 13.04 with gnome fallback otherwise everything
good but no keyboard layout indicator

so used the clever trick from Robotron with install gkrellm-xkb, run gkrellm
and turnoff all monitors except xkb.

and to make it permanent added it to to startup apps Excellent advice!

[Bug 1080701] Re: After 'Preparing to install Ubuntu' screen, raring installation hangs

2013-01-24 Thread Shan Anand
here is what exactly is did...

1) USB boot to Test mode (Not the install mode). ( i used unetbootin to write
Ubuntu daily ISO to USB).
2) i started the install - it hangs before disk selection mode
3) i quit the install
4) open the terminal, and 'ps -ef | grep -i rsyslogd'
5) sudo su -
6) kill ##(rsyslogd PID)
7) rsyslogd started again by the system (ignore it )
8) rsyslogd -c5 -i -d
9) Now 2 rsyslogd are running ( leave it to run)
10) started the install -- it passed the partition window and show me the disk
selection
11) Install goes fine. now i'm on 13.04

i download 23-Jan-2013 ubuntu AMD 64 Bit image, i used the above
procedure to install it

my system config :
Sony VAIO FX1190
i7 / 4GB / 256GB SSD Drive / NVIDIA 1GB GX 330M

[Bug 1080701] Re: After 'Preparing to install Ubuntu' screen, raring installation hangs

2013-01-23 Thread Shan Anand
Please use the following procedure to install the Daily image, this
resolves the issue of partman hanging

boot from USB to Live image
check the PID of rsyslogd
kill the rsyslogd
run the command 'rsyslogd -c5 -i -d'
start the install

watch the install pass the partition page... have fun with Raring

i'm not a Developer, so i can't explain why this rsyslogd is causing
partman to hang.

Someone from Dev team can explain more on this...

Shan A

I am pretty sure the IO error is because Ubuntu ejects the cd and then

Need info: What disk (hda1, hda2, etc) did you install Ubuntu on, and
what disk did you install the bootloader (GRUB) on?

[Bug 673534] [NEW] installation error on dell vostro 1088

2010-11-10 Thread geoorge shan
Public bug reported:

tried to install ubuntu desktop edition 10.10 on dell vostro 1088
laptop. The whole installation process is smooth. After the completion
of installation, when I click reboot button, the system is closing and
then report i/o error and stuck there.

I have to press the power button to restart the machine. But the system
can not start up. I guess the reboot process after the completion of
installation destroyed something in the system file, maybe boot files.

I tried to install ubuntu twice. It occurs the same problem in the
reboot process.

Re: [Bug 564105] [NEW] [users-admin] Unintentional editing settings of wrong user

Can't confirm on it.

In my Lucid, when the Groups dialog pops up, the user selection in the main
window won't move 'silently' to the currently logged in user.

Do we need any additional operations to reproduce the problem?

[Bug 287262] Re: "Alt+C" access key does not work in time-admin

2010-04-13 Thread Xiegai Shan
I'm thinking of some 2 solutions:
1. We just delete the Mnemonic widget on the label "Congifiguration",
2. We change the label from "Configuration" to "Sync Configuration" to make it
as "Alt + S"

The label "Time" also can't work with "Alt + T". I'm trying to fix that
too.

[Bug 151585] Re: USB Devices unrecognised by virtualbox (/proc/bus/usb missing)

2009-01-03 Thread shan
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 156085 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/156085

Hi there,

We really got close the solution with the command below, only problem:
the mouse would be invisible in the VirtualBox, and won't work on
Ubuntu, but as soon the virtualBox is shut down, the mouse appears to be
working, also if I plug my external Hdd before I run the VirtualBox,
windows xp would take forever to with the Blue Welcome screen, so I had
to send the Power Off command to the virtualBox. Hope there would be a
fix for this.

Thanks for the efforts tho.

Attachment: screen shot

@Gene: do

$ sudo mount usbfs -t usbfs /proc/bus/usb/ -o devmode=0666

before starting VirtualBox (if security is an issue, use a different
mode and set a group using -o devgid). This will hopefully be fixed in
the next version of VirtualBox.

[Bug 191885] [NEW] GNOME exceptions

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Gnome settings aren't saved, once rebooted, the settings are lost and
has to reapply the Desktop effects.

Unable to start the settings manager 'gnome-settings-daemon'.
