[Bug 1937321] Re: System freeze (does not wake from sleep)

I had an automatic upgrade to 5.11.0-27 a few days ago, but the new
kernel didn't fix my problem. Here's the journal.

I finally got my head "out of a place the sun don't shine" and copied
and pasted this file to another one and the new one works fine; I should
have done that before reporting a bug - sorry. You close this bug report

[Bug 1937321] Re: System freeze (amdgpu kernel crash on resume from suspend)

2021-08-11 Thread sheepscrossing
The 5.11 kernel locks up when left in suspend mode overnight and Alt/Sysrq
REISUB will not be recognized either. I have been able to suspend the laptop by
shutting the kid for smaller amounts of time and having the system respond
again when the the lid is reopened, 1 to 2 hours. But leaving it suspended for
overnight will cause it to hang every time. I have booted the other kernel on
the system, 5.8.0-63 and will see if that works. I haven't downloaded the
linux-oem-20.04c package yet.
Any more advice?

Please advise the name of the packages I need to purge. I've tried a lot
of different things but haven't found the right name.

Also I have booted 5.11.0-25 and the system locked up when I lifted the
lid to resume, I hard to do a hard boot as even Alt/Sysreq REISUB won't
work. I guess I'll try Mr. Feng's kernel next.

Also sorry again because it sounds like that libc6 problem is going to
keep getting in the way. But good news: Kernel 5.11 has now been
officially released to Ubuntu 20.04 updates. So you can delete the test
kernel packages with:

  sudo dpkg -P PACKAGENAME1 PACKAGENAME2

and then do a system update to get the official update to 5.11:

  sudo apt update
  sudo apt full-upgrade

[Bug 1937321] Re: System freeze (amdgpu kernel crash on resume from suspend)

2021-08-07 Thread sheepscrossing
I compiled the new images that you sent. Linux 5.10.56- and received
the same error about Libc6 being downlevel, but when I rebooted that kernel it
booted with what appeared to be the same errors as 5.13.7.
Boot.log shows:
[FAILED] Failed to start Load/Save Screen Backlight Brightness of
backlight:acpi_video0.
See 'systemctl status systemd-backlight@backlight:acpi_video0.service' for
details.

I didn't see any other errors. Where should I be looking for the startup
messages that I'm seeing?

Did you mean for me to download all 7 of the modules at this URL and
compile them?

BTW the system booted this time with the 5.07.13 kernel but it had errors I
didn't have time to see.  I guess because I disabled the "invalid signature"
parameter. These are the only errors I encountered in the Boot.log:
Starting Load/Save Screen Backlight Brightness of

 Oh I didn't realize Ubuntu 20.04 has a version of libc that's a little
too old for that. You will need to try an older kernel version that's
still newer than the 5.8.0 that caused this bug. Maybe try:

  https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.10.56/amd64/

Also the "invalid signature" problem I think is caused by Secure Boot.
Try disabling Secure Boot in your BIOS.

Re: [Bug 1938735] Re: Can't insert a row into a OpenOffice calc file

2021-08-04 Thread sheepscrossing
I sent the file with the initial bug report, but it's 842 rows and 9 columns.
I can add a row to the bottom but when I insert a row either before or after in
the body of it it crashes when I save it. Actually I can only cut and paste the
total at the bottom to make more space for rows, I can't use the insert feature
at all. You'll notice in the file that I sent that there is a row at the bottom
that's out of order. That was the only way I could add it; cutting and pasting
the total several rows down to make more room. Usually it's an empty row.
If I run the journalctl  command  there is a ton of data there I guess because
I've been having a freeze problem after I suspend the laptop by shutting the
lid (I have reported that bug also bug: #19373210). Do you want me to attach
the output to the bug report?
I have added it here.

I know you said the size of the spreadsheet is 57 KB, but can you tell
me roughly how many rows and columns? When you're inserting a row, is it
just an empty row? Does it happen when you insert an empty row above or
below or doesn't matter? When the crash occurs, what are the
corresponding journalctl logs?

[Bug 1379936] Re: ubuntu 14-04 laptop black screen after suspend

2015-01-07 Thread sheepscrossing
I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for but I did update the bios. Here's
the output of the
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

F.2E
03/22/2010

I still have the same problem.
Thanks,

[Bug 1379936] [NEW] ubuntu 14-04 laptop black screen after suspend

2014-10-10 Thread sheepscrossing
Public bug reported:

Laptop is set to suspend when the lid is closed. System will not display
desktop after reopening the lid. Sometimes you can get the desktop back by
using CTRL/ALT F1 and then CTRL/ALT F7, but only if the cusor is still
displayed with the black screen. The system will usually return the desktop if
SUDO PM-RESUME is typed into the terminal screen, but occasionally that will
fail as well when the laptop lid is opened. Then it's reboot time.
Laptop is a HP Pavillion dv6245us with Intel chip set, including internal
graphics 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03).

[Bug 1283938] Re: [Samsung NP535U4X-S01TH] Ubuntu 14.04 blank screen after wakeup from sleep

2014-06-16 Thread sheepscrossing
I found a quick way to regain the desktop after the hibernation freeze
that results in a black screen with mouse pointer only showing.
ALT+CTL+F1(mouse pointer disappears, no terminal signon visible).
ALT+CTL+F7 and the desktop reappears, of course any active applications
are terminated so browser, etc, should be closed prior to closing the
laptop lid. Hope that helps some.

[Bug 1283938] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 blank screen after wakeup from sleep

2014-05-25 Thread sheepscrossing
I'm using an HP Pavillion i386 with Intel chip set and have the same
problem after upgrading to 14.04 from 12.04. My only work around is to
use "sudo pm-suspend" every time I close the lid - then the system will
come back with having to reboot it. Otherwise I have a block screen
with only the cursor showing - I don't know if the system would drop
into terminal mode with Alt+ctl+F1 or not. I could test it if it would
expedite the fix for this bug. Thanks,
