[Bug 1963864] Re: Can't resolve using custom nsswitch.conf items
The alternative way to make it work is to have /etc/resolv.conf point to a local dnsmasq instance that has: server=/lxd/10.45.148.1@lxdbr0 in it. Where 10.45.148.1 is where lxd's dnsmasq is listening too. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1963864 Title: Can't resolve using custom nsswitch.conf items To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/snapd/+bug/1963864/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1963864] [NEW] Can't resolve using custom nsswitch.conf items
Public bug reported: The host /etc/nsswitch.conf is not being honored inside the snap container leading to .docker (or using my custom plugin .lxd) hosts not being resolved. How to reproduce: 1. Run a docker host name 'test' with a http server in it. 2. Install libnss-docker. 3. ping test.docker and see that it works. 4. Open snap firefox. 5. Access http://test.docker and see that it doesn't resolve the IP properly, thus the site is not opened. Another way to reproduce: 1. Create a lxd container named 'test' with a http server in it. 2. Download and install: https://launchpad.net/~shemgp/+archive/ubuntu/other-apps/+files/libnss-lxd_0.06-0ubuntu2~impish_amd64.deb 3. Ping test.lxd and see that it works. 4. Open snap firefox. 5. Access http://test.lxd and see that it doesn't resolve the IP properly, thus not being able to access the website. I'm not sure how to be able to resolve this since the binary is in the host? Perhaps systemd-resolved's dnsmasq can be coaxed to use /etc/nsswitch.conf and the container's be coaxed to use the hosts :53 dns? [Bug 1893032] Re: groovy gnome-shell crashes when launched manually
More about why I used the manual way. My reasoning was: if gdm is not running the might as well run gnome-shell via xinit. I tried but couldn't start it via xinit thus the use of manual way. But now I realized, I could use startx, but running startx doesn't launch gnome- shell either. Thus I concluded that maybe it's because gnome-shell is crashing why gdm is not showing the login screen, since running gnome- shell via startx or the manual way doesn't start gnome-shell too. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1893032 Title: groovy gnome-shell crashes when launched manually To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1893032/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 1893032] Re: groovy gnome-shell crashes so gdm is black screen with cursor
I used the manual way to debug why gdm doesn't show the login screen (inferring that it's because gnome-shell is not running). I "inferred" it initially by looking at the mouse cursor blinking. Before, when the login screen shows up, the mouse would blink once then the login screen shows up. Now the mouse would blink once then just blink again instead of showing the logins screen. I can also see the output of ps -AfH, wherein it shows that gnome-shell isn't running even when gdm-x-session is running under the gdm user. I still don't know why there's no crash file though. Any pointers on how to debug this? Thank you for your help. Re: [Bug 1893032] Re: groovy gnome-shell crashes so gdm is black screen with cursor
I checked /usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions and I don't have any extensions there (apt purge gnome-shell-extensions*). I also tried moving the folder ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions to .. and gnome-shell in gdm3 still won't start (just in case gdm3's gnome-shell actually uses that folder). I can't login to gnome-shell since gdm3 doesn't show the login screen since gnome-shell in gdm3 doesn't start. I also tried debsums to check for corrupted files, and found none related to gnome-shell. I'm planning to reinstall all gnome-shell related packages to see if that fixes it. Thank you for your help. [Bug 1878449] [NEW] 20.04's desktop installer always fsck's when starting
Public bug reported: I used the Ubuntu 20.04 desktop amd64 installer in a USB to fix the booting of my server, and it took time since it fsck'ed the USB thumb drive that I flashed it into. So I thought, maybe I just unplugged the thing to quickly and didn't unmount it that's why. So I reflashed/recreated the boot disk and this time I unmounted it properly but it still did the fsck. So then I installed a VM with it, and it did fsck again. So now I realized that it's a bug. That's why I filed this. Here's the backtrace. If I run: sudo gdb --args /usr/lib/xorg/Xorg -nolisten tcp :1 vt2 -keeptty -logfile xorg.log on terminal and on another terminal run: export DISPLAY=:1 gnome-session it crashes and the backtrace full is attached. But if I just run: export DISPLAY=:1 gnome-shell it doesn't crash but loads gnome-shell. So the problem only shows up in gnome-session, that's probably why gdm3 starts fine, but when logging in as a user, it crashes. ** Attachment added: "xorg.crash.bt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1868561/+attachment/5340608/+files/xorg.crash.bt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1868561 Title: Xorg Crash on login To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1868561/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1838725] Re: Plymouth fails to display graphical splash screens on some machines, shows text mode dots animation instead.
I think plymouth is trying to load the png without it being mounted yet? If you look at the debug log and search for loading lock image you will see that there's an error on the first load but there's another one where it's successful. [Bug 1838443] [NEW] No flicker free boot since Ignoring BGRT: invalid version 0 (expected 1)
Public bug reported: On eoan dev here: Flicker free booting doesn't work since I get: Ignoring BGRT: invalid version 0 (expected 1) on dmesg on my Thinkpad x230t i7-3520M (Ivy Bridge). Second, if I add: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash i915.fastboot=1" to /etc/default/grub then it doesn't show plymouth but displays the text Ubuntu loading screen and I need to press ALT+F1 so GDM will show up (see video: [1]). If I press escape while it is displaying text Ubuntu loading, it loads plymouth (see video: [2]) and shows the spinner (no lenovo word) and I don't need to press ALT+F1 since GDM shows after plymouth. So I guess there's a bug there, since it should display plymouth and not the Ubuntu loading text and boot directly to GDM. Now if I patch the kernel: diff --git a/drivers/firmware/efi/efi-bgrt.c b/drivers/firmware/efi/efi-bgrt.c index b07c17643210..5754e530af9a 100644 --- a/drivers/firmware/efi/efi-bgrt.c +++ b/drivers/firmware/efi/efi-bgrt.c @@ -42,7 +42,7 @@ void __init efi_bgrt_init(struct acpi_table_header *table) return; } *bgrt = *(struct acpi_table_bgrt *)table; - if (bgrt->version != 1) { + if (bgrt->version != 1 && false) { /* don't check BGRT version */ pr_notice("Ignoring BGRT: invalid version %u (expected 1)\n", bgrt->version); goto out; And linux-modules and linux-modules-extra is not installed in that kernel, then I have somewhat flicker free boot. It shows the bgrt screen then goes black (probably grub loading), then shows the bgrt screen again with the spinner. Nice! Then again, if I install linux-modules and linux-modules-extra then I get the Ubuntu loading text when booting, but if I press esc I get the bgrt screen with spinner. Re: [Bug 1820775] Re: gnome-shell's user menu/item is not aligned like other menu items
I have hibernate-status-button and suspend-button and that's probably user menu is extended since the buttons don't fit. Should I still file an upstream bug? [Bug 1820775] [NEW] gnome-shell's user menu/item is not aligned like other menu items
Public bug reported: I just noticed that the user menu of gnome-shell is not aligned like other menu items. When clicking it, it shows an extended box too. I expect it to be like other menu items. Re: [Bug 1820489] Re: nautilus search bar showing up when window with is expanded
Let's just say it's a nautilus feature that should be fixed by themes that make the height of the header bar smaller. On Mon, Mar 18, 2019 at 9:30 PM Sebastien Bacher wrote: > So it was a theme bug? [Bug 1820489] Re: nautilus search bar showing up when window with is expanded
I guess it doesn't show up in Yaru, but it does show up, albeit, nicely in Adwaita. I'm using NewAdwaita-slim and I've fixed it already this theme by doing what Yaru does: hides it since the height can't be changed.
