[Bug 821983] [NEW] avast, /proc/sys/kernel/shmmax is insufficient for avast to run
Public bug reported: Avast for linux requires a higher value in order to be able to update its signature database. This is the info they post on their forum to help people fix the issue: Starting with the 400.vps, version 100328-1, one of it's internal block reached the inner limit 33554432 bytes. It's a kernel variable which is (quite artificially) limiting the maximum size of any SHM memory block - and 33554432 was a default for some kernels. Solution? Set the limit to higher values (as root): sysctl -w kernel.shmmax=12800 OR echo 12800 /proc/sys/kernel/shmmax Place those lines to /etc/init.d/rcS or equivalent file (it's distribution-specific a bit - see /etc/inittab, the sysinit runlevel) to have them set automatically (just after boot). The current value in Ubuntu 10.04 is: silviu@silviu-lucid:~$ cat /proc/sys/kernel/shmmax 33554432 Is there any reason to have this default and not something along the lines that the Avast staff suggest. Could future Ubuntu releases have 12800 as default ? Would be nice if newbie switchers could just fire off their on demand scanner and have it work out of the box. [Bug 821818] Re: pxlmono driver does not work with lexmark E230
I downloaded an alpha 3, 64 bit Oneiric image and did all the updates. It did have updates for cups and related stuff. The bad: When firing off th Add printer wizard it suggests Generic goes to PCL 6 printers and lists the e230 pxlmono driver but recommends the pxcolor driver. The good: I selected the pxlmono driver, downloaded the PDF on which it usually choked and it printed fine. Note: Before updating, if I attempted to print with the pxlmono driver, it would spit gibberish on multiple pages. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/821818 Title: pxlmono driver does not work with lexmark E230 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/foomatic-db/+bug/821818/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

A lot of people still have a Realtek ALC650 sound card so please support multichannel for it too (for example I have a VIA KT333 chipset including it). [Bug 344588]
Applications that have support 5.1 channel support, work only with Wine and I also need because they work better than GNU/Linux applications for a specific task: -WinampAC3Filter plugin for Winamp (Winamp is the only application that has a decent playlist with perfectly optimized controls imho - I mean I can set the imput plugins to display something like Artist - Album - string of my choosing.filetype - another string of my choosing) -older games that rely much on multichannel to inform the player of the position of things all around like: Counter Strike, Star Trek Armada II, Homeworld 1 2, Giants - Citizen Kabuto, Command and Conquer 1 2 3 -take utorrent for example - the programmers use the Wine platform to make sure it will work very well in Windows. Programmers may (imho they already) use Wine to check games for Windows and even compiling them using Wine libraries to make them go faster and smoother and would be very happy to not have to load Windows instead of Wine just to test if multichannel sounds work properly -I am sure I will have more and more needs to use multichannel in Wine as time passes (for example 3D max Studio or Adobe * - make movies in multichannel and view them without rendering just to check sounds) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/344588 Title: Wine doesn't support 5.1 and 7.1 sound -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi, KiK I have no idea why this noise is making its appearance. But, the nomodeset it's set as a SWITCH to your linux kernel in order to skip, probably, a graphical engine loade with the kernel, the flicker and noise comes up when booting the kernel, not when loading grub. [Bug 585603] [NEW] graphical nonresponsivness while gitk on linux kernel source
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: git-core Be ready to eventually use the reset button while replicating this bug ! 1) I made the following commands: git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git git branch spellcheck git checkout spellcheck gitk And when I run gitk, it begins loading rows, and the more I let it load rows, the more it blocks the mouse, the desktop, etc. until it is eventually killed automatically. 2) The same problem has been observed with another set of commands, done a week or so apart: git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux- next.git ...(one week or so has passed)... cd linux-next git pull And it begins working, and having an ext2 file system it starts to say: Too many files (created x deleted y), skipping inexact rename detection for about four times, where x and y are numbers of hundreds or thousands, and then just does nothing except using the hard disk continually and blocking the desktop. This second set of commands requires a push of the reset button, as it is not killed automatically.
