[Bug 839378] Re: Regression: apt-listchanges always sends changelogs

2015-02-11 Thread snafu109
Any chance we'll get someone to look at this?

The regression was introduced by Martin Pitt for natty (11.04) and it's
unclear what the reason for introducing it was. In any case there is a
patch available and if it needs updating I'd be happy to work on that.

The changelog from the package that introduced this problem:
apt-listchanges (2.85.5ubuntu1) natty; urgency=low

  * apt-listchanges/DebianFiles.py: If the new package does not have a Debian
changelog, fall back to apt-changelog.

[Bug 1421053] [NEW] WiFi hotkey doesn't work on Asus UX32VD (nothing in evtest or acpi_listen)

2015-02-11 Thread snafu109
Public bug reported:

I cannot get the WiFi hot key (Fn + F2) to register anything in evtest
or acpi_listen on the Asus UX32VD. I have tried different values for

[Bug 1371379] [NEW] rtsx_usb module for Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTS5139 Card Reader Controller doesn't load

2014-09-18 Thread snafu109
Public bug reported:

The module for Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTS5139 Card Reader
Controller (lsbusb ID 0bda:0139) does not load automatically on boot, so
the SD card reader won't work.

If I add rtsx_usb to /etc/modules then the correct modules are loaded
on boot and the SD card reader will work.

[Bug 1353715] [NEW] libterm-readkey-perl shows 18 month support in Precise

2014-08-06 Thread snafu109
Public bug reported:

When bug #1000605 was fixed libterm-readkey-perl was added as a
dependency of mysql-client-5.5 in Precise. mysql-client-5.5 has 5 years
of support but this dependency doesn't according to output of apt-cache
show libterm-readkey-perl:

Package: libterm-readkey-perl
Priority: optional
Section: perl
...
Supported: 18m

I expect this to reflect 5 years support as it's a dependency of a
package which is supported for that long.

I'm guessing this is due to the fact that it was only added as a
dependency after Precise was released, and this hasn't flowed back to
the Packages file for whatever reason (I didn't get that far).

Apologies if this isn't the right package to file against; I couldn't
see anything more appropriate.

[Bug 1267255] Re: [MIR] php5 (php5-fpm binary)

Hi Robie,

I can't comment on that. All I did was follow the process for filing the
MIR bug; I'm not sure how to progress it from here. If I need to post on
the ubuntu-server list to get attention I'm happy to do so.

I believe this bug is at step 4 of
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MainInclusionProcess, and waiting for review by
~ubuntu-mir team. If there's more to the process then where can I find
that information?

[Bug 1267255] Re: [MIR] php5 (php5-fpm binary)

2014-07-29 Thread snafu109
I'm just a user who would like to see FPM have security and QA support
for the full 60 months of an LTS release along with the other PHP SAPIs,
so I (and others) can use a supported PHP backend with nginx instead of
having to use Apache. Now nginx-core is in main it would be excellent to
have a fully supported LEMP stack going in Ubuntu. I'm not otherwise
involved in the Ubuntu project other than filing the odd bug.

I can keep momentum going on getting the package promoted but I can't
commit to ongoing maintenance of the package once it's in main. So I can
go to ubuntu-server list to ask for help with this, since I know PHP is
a difficult set of packages to maintain and those currently taking on
this responsibility may not have the bandwidth to provide full support
for an additional package.

[Bug 839378] Re: Regression: apt-listchanges always sends changelogs

2014-07-09 Thread snafu109
Fix attached.

The problem is that there is an Ubuntu patch which falls back to
downloading changelogs for every package when the script doesn't find
any changelogs in the binary package. Due to faulty logic this always
occurs when which=news.

This patch changes behaviour so the fallback only triggers when
which=changelogs or which=both.

[Bug 1320542] [NEW] Removable drives and media not automatically mounted/listed

2014-05-17 Thread snafu109
Public bug reported:

The fix released for bug #1210898 did not fix the issue for me.

I have checked Enable volume management in Thunar's preferences. Under
Removable Storage in the Removable Drives and Media window the
following are checked:

* Mount removable drives when hot-plugged
* Mount removable media when inserted
* Browse removable media when inserted

The auto-mounting only works when a Thunar window is open. The same
behaviour is experienced for SD cards using the laptop's built in card
reader, and USB storage devices.

ProblemType: Bug

For anyone still experiencing this issue I've opened a new bug against
thunar-volman version 0.8.0-4ubuntu1. Please add to that report if, like
me, you still have a problem.

[Bug 1320542] Re: Removable drives and media not automatically mounted/listed

2014-05-17 Thread snafu109
No, it wasn't... when I added 'thunar --daemon' to the autostart
programs and restarted the session the auto-mounting did work.

I'm sorry, this bug is invalid - thunar-volman is working as expected,
the problem is that thunar wasn't starting with the session though I
don't know if this is by design or a bad config on my machine.

Thanks for the pointer and quick reply.

[Bug 1210898] Re: Removable drives and media not automatically mounted/listed

2014-05-17 Thread snafu109
I've closed the bug I opened in my previous comment as Invalid - my
issue was that the thunar daemon wasn't running. When I added 'thunar
--daemon' to the list of applications to autostart when XFCE starts it
did start working as expected.

[Bug 1320542] Re: Removable drives and media not automatically mounted/listed

2014-05-17 Thread snafu109
I think that was exactly the problem. I removed the manual entry for
thunar --daemon from the autostart list, cleared the session and
restarted. Thunar did start as a daemon and drives auto mount when hot
plugged.

unlikely it's a valid bug if I'm the only person who's run into the

[Bug 1289523] [NEW] password font does not change in Edit Entry dialog

2014-03-07 Thread snafu109
Public bug reported:

Version 2.23+dfsg-1ubuntu1 on Xubuntu 13.10.

What I expected to happen:
- change the setting in Tools - Options - Interface - Select Password font
to a monospaced font
- Font used in Edit Entry field is the one selected in the above option

What happened instead:
- Font used in Edit Entry field is not changed according to the setting.
Remains a standard sans-serif font.

Changing Force using system font (Unix only) makes no difference. If I
change Select List Font, then I can see the font changing, but only in
the main KeePass window where the entries are listed.

[Bug 1267255] Re: [MIR] php5 (php5-fpm binary)

2014-02-05 Thread snafu109
** Description changed:

NOTE: I only saw that where the source package is in main reports are not
required after spending most of the day writing this up. It's my first MIR so
apologies if this isn't the correct process for promoting a binary of an
existing source package - I couldn't find documentation on what to do to make
that request.

From the PHP documentation: FPM (FastCGI Process Manager) is an
alternative PHP FastCGI implementation with some additional features
  (mostly) useful for heavy-loaded sites.

  Availability:

Available in Ubuntu universe in all currently supported Ubuntu releases.
Latest release builds on all architectures (amd64, arm64, armhf, i386,
powerpc, ppc64el)[1]. Also available on Debian Wheezy (it was not
included in Squeeze as FPM was introduced to PHP core too close to
  Squeeze's release[2]).

  Rationale:

Commonly combined with nginx, and can be used with all servers supporting
FastCGI (Apache, Lighttpd, etc). With some momentum behind adding nginx to
main[3] it would be nice to have something with security support that can be
paired with it to have comparable functionality to the common apache2 +
libapache2-mod-php5 combination. According to Ubuntu popcon php5-fpm is used
regularly by 950 people, which compares favourably to nginx (nginx-common)
which is used regularly by 639 people (according to Vote stats).

  Security:

php5 is already in main so this search is limited to security issues
affecting FPM specifically. PHP FPM is included with and supported as
part of the core PHP release in all currently supported versions (5.3.x,
5.4.x and 5.5.x). It therefore has security support from the core PHP
team. It also has security support from upstream Debian.

A search for fpm on cve.mitre.org and NVD returns only CVE-2012-0831. This
appears to have been disclosed responsibly and fixed promptly (NVD shows
vulnerability release date of Feb 10, 2012. It was fixed in PHP prior to this
disclosure on Feb 2, 2012.)
The USN with updated packages was released Feb 9, 2012.

There are currently no affecting CVEs listed in Ubuntu's security tracker for
php5 package[4].
There are currently four open issues listed in Debian's security tracker (not
counting unimportant issues for php5 package[5]:

  * CVE-2010-4657 per Ubuntu tracker can't reproduce on quantal+, so does not
affect Trusty.
  * CVE-2011-1398 fixed upstream in 5.4.0, so does not affect Trusty.
  * CVE-2011-4718 fixed upstream in 5.5.2, so does not affect Trusty.
  * CVE-2012-0789 fixed upstream in 5.5.0, so does not affect Trusty.

The php5-fpm binary is installed in /usr/sbin and installs a daemon. The
daemon by default is not public facing and starts a socket listening at
  /var/run/php5-fpm.sock.

Based on this an in-depth security review is required.

  Quality assurance:

The package is automatically started after installation. Provided a web
server is correctly configured it should be possible to use this package
without any further configuration to begin serving PHP pages.

There are no debconf questions asked during installation.

  Upstream PHP FPM bugs:
https://bugs.php.net/search.php?cmd=displaypackage_name[]=FPM+related
  Debian bugs: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?pkg=php5-fpm
  Ubuntu bugs:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/php5/+bugs?field.searchtext=fpm

- Ubuntu bug 1242376 must be fixed, as this affects reloading FPM when using
- Upstart.
Ubuntu bug 1230917 must be fixed, as this affects logrotate when using
Upstart and will send weekly warning emails from cron.
Other Ubuntu bugs either require more information or relate to PHP core or a
module, not FPM.

In Debian there are currently no outstanding bugs that can be actioned.

In PHP upstream there are several relevant open bugs:
  * 55508 - feature request to listen on IPv6 addresses (current support is
limited to IPv4 and sockets)
  * 62382 - access log format for FPM shows incorrect values for server time a
request is received
  * 51983 - pm.status_path not working when cgi.fix_pathinfo=1 (long-standing,
probably minor bug)
  * 53074 - looks like upstream version of Ubuntu bug 1242376
  * 53611 - fastcgi_param PHP_VALUE pollutes other sites (possible security
issue, long-standing). Possibly related to 61867 and 63965.
  * 60961 - Graceful Restart (USR2) isn't very graceful. Possibly related to
63395.
  * 61558 - Runaway spawning of children after pipe error
  * 62172 - FPM not working with Apache httpd 2.4 balancer/fcgi setup
  * 55322, 62279 - chroot issues
  * 64626 - PHP-FPM may segfault/hang on startup

Whether any of these are blockers is up to discretion of MIR approval
team. If any are blockers then please state which ones so they can be
  tracked for a future MIR.

In Debian PTS there are several Lintian errors and warnings for php5,
however php5-fpm is clean. There is a build warning on powerpc

limited to IPv4 and sockets)
* 62382 - access log format for FPM shows incorrect values for server time a
request is received
* 51983 - pm.status_path not working when cgi.fix_pathinfo=1 (long-standing,
probably minor bug)
* 53074 - looks like upstream version of Ubuntu bug 1242376
* 53611 - fastcgi_param PHP_VALUE pollutes other sites (possible security
issue, long-standing). Possibly related to 61867 and 63965.
* 60961 - Graceful Restart (USR2) isn't very graceful. Possibly related to
63395.
* 61558 - Runaway spawning of children after pipe error
* 62172 - FPM not working with Apache httpd 2.4 balancer/fcgi setup
* 55322, 62279 - chroot issues
* 64626 - PHP-FPM may segfault/hang on startup

Whether any of these are blockers is up to discretion of MIR approval
team. If any are blockers then please state which ones so they can be
tracked for a future MIR.

[Bug 1249709] [NEW] Update dpkg-www for Apache 2.4 transition

2013-11-09 Thread snafu109
Public bug reported:

dpkg-www is installing configuration files into /etc/apache2/conf.d. As

[Bug 1246328] [NEW] ikiwiki does not git commit when saving web interface edit with empty edit summary

2013-10-30 Thread snafu109
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Saucy (13.10), ikiwiki version 3.20130212ubuntu1.

I'm using the git backend for ikiwiki. When I make an edit in the web
interface and leave an empty edit summary, the change is not
automatically committed by git. If the edit summary is not blank the
change will be automatically committed as expected.

I expect the edits to be automatically committed by git whether or not I
have entered an edit summary.

It's possibly due to a behavior change in git as the version of ikiwiki
didn't change between Raring (which worked correctly) and Saucy.

When using the current version from Debian Jessie (3.20130904.1) this
works as expected. Confusing the issue is this commit in ikiwiki which
is in Jessie's version but not Saucy's:
http://source.ikiwiki.branchable.com/?p=source.git;a=blobdiff;f=IkiWiki/Plugin/git.pm;h=bbdcbdba82aba3b4c6499245e5d8f6bc9f041285;hp=0852ce10d35c403d3f744269848d408c411d11f2;hb=946af13ae60da6a8688e66bbe17dd1a012e5d747;hpb=b162563dc1c6126953e66cdcc508f389b9d39d8e

It's confusing as it's used when git version 1.7.8, however both
raring and saucy's git version is higher than that and raring worked
correctly with empty edit summaries while saucy does not.

[Bug 1241896] Re: Laptop sleeps again after resume (only on lid open)

2013-10-19 Thread snafu109
This bug was marked duplicate of bug 1222021, however that bug refers to
the behaviour when a laptop lid is closed, this bug is about the
behaviour when the lid is opened again.

While the root cause may well be the same the bug itself is not the same
as that reported in bug 1222021.

** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 1222021
Laptop sleeps when lid is closed, regardless of Power Manager Settings.

[Bug 1241896] [NEW] Laptop sleeps again after resume (only on lid open)

2013-10-18 Thread snafu109
Public bug reported:

When action on lid close in xfce4-power-manager is set to Sleep, the
laptop correctly sleeps when the lid is closed.

When the lid is opened, the laptop resumes briefly, then sleeps again. I
can trigger a resume successfully either by pressing the power button or
by closing and reopening the lid.

This is a regression from 13.04 where suspend/resume worked correctly.

If I sleep by pressing the Suspend button in the XFCE Log Out menu
the laptop sleeps and resumes successfully and doesn't sleep twice.

This is probably related to bug #1222021.

[Bug 58232] Re: edgy gnome-terminal does not start

2006-10-06 Thread snafu109
Well I've now tried several combinations of xorg.conf with both open-
source nv and proprietary nvidia drivers. Every combination worked with
gnome-terminal, EXCEPT when xinerama was enabled.

I go to the point where I tried simply commenting xinerama out of my
xorg.conf. Gnome started an instance on both screens (I'm not sure what
mode this is called) and gnome-terminal worked. Uncommenting xinerama
meant that it would not start. I've included xorg.conf.

I searched for xinerama bugs but didn't find anything similar. Also,
would this count as a regression? My xorg.conf worked perfectly in
Dapper and I'm using the same one in Edgy.

Should I file a new bug against xorg?

[Bug 58232] Re: edgy gnome-terminal does not start

2006-10-05 Thread snafu109
I am receiving the exact same error as the original reporter, when
trying to run gnome-terminal from Konsole. The program will not run when
I try to open it from the Applications menu either.

I'm running dual monitors with Xinerama and the nvidia-glx drivers, but
no other changes to the X config that I'm aware of. It's a fresh install
of Edgy i386 with all updates applied.

I tried getting a backtrace using instructions from the wiki, but as
someone said it's not a crash per se. Tried deleting both ~/.bashrc and
~/.bash_profile, no change.

If you'd like me to provide any info just ask.
