[Bug 392204] Re: Huge CPU usage by mount.ntfs process

2010-01-07 Thread solarsd
I'm also affected by this bug. When copying from or to a ntfs partition
the transfer speed starts normally but then falls down to a halt... Then
I get 100% CPU usage, 0.2% mem usage and the interesting part is that
using iotop I get only 20 K/s disk write activity in total, all due to
mount.ntfs process. That's happening on Ubuntu Karmic, kernel
2.6.31-17-generic using ntfs-3g version 1:2009.4.4-1ubuntu4. I wonder if
someone is looking into this as it is a real nasty issue...

[Bug 432794] Re: gnome-panel freeze/infinite loop/memory leak

2009-12-30 Thread solarsd
Another follow up. I can reproduce the issue by simply adding a new
panel, then setting "Orientation" to "Bottom". After ticking "Autohide",
gnome-panel freezes with all the aforementioned symptoms. It can be
resolved by just deleting the .gconf folder.

I'm not sure anymore that my issue is caused by the same bug and I don't
know how to proceed with the bug registration/resolving formalities.
Please advise.

[Bug 432794] Re: gnome-panel freeze/infinite loop/memory leak

2009-12-29 Thread solarsd
To follow up. I've managed to resolve this issue by removing .gconf
.gconfd .gnome2 and .gnome2-private folders from my home directory.
After restarting Xorg, I've managed to login into my account, loosing
only the GNOME related settings (they're set to default now). I don't
know if this is the same issue other people are having nor if this
workaround could help them as well. It is obvious, that the hiccup is
configuration related and I could provide with the configure files that
caused the aforementioned gnome-panel high CPU usage memory leak.

[Bug 432794] Re: gnome-panel freeze/infinite loop/memory leak

2009-12-29 Thread solarsd
I confirm the gnome-panel high CPU usage/growing memory consumption
issue. It occurs on an upgraded Ubuntu 9.10, on a Lenovo T61 machine.
I've completed the upgrade to 9.10 just a few days ago and I don't have
Skype installed. Now I can't login to the system, because the issue
occurs right after entering the login credentials: the Ubuntu-is-
loading-progress-bar just freezes and when I switch to terminal
(Crtl+Alt+F1), I see the reported symptoms in 'top'. Switching to GNOME-
failsafe helps only to load all the panels (all the content is missing
thought), but the interface is unresponsive. Switching to terminal and
'top' shows the same symptoms. Selecting xterm during the login process
gets me that far to open Firefox and write this.
