[Bug 51292] Ubuntu-Server (6.06) install fail

2006-06-29 Thread Stef
Public bug reported:

When installing Ubuntu 6.06 I got following error when installing the
base-system:
Debootstrap Warning
Warning: Failure tryinig to run: chroot / target dpkg --force-depends --install
var/cache/apt/archieves/base-files_3.1.9ubunutu7_i386.deb
var/cache/apt/archieves/base-passwd_3.5.11_i386.de

on the tty4 I got the following line ((wrote the last two lines)
June 29 10:43:56 base-installer: info: Running
/usr/lib/base-installer.d/40netcfg
June 29 10:44:25 debootstrap: dpkg: syntax error: unknown user 'root' in
statoverride file

as written above this happens during the baseinstall

ubuntu 5 was running fine on that machine

anyway her the hardware description:
dual opteron
4 GB RAM
SATA- ICP-Vortex-Raid-Controller with about 6 HDs attached
hm, nothing special...
I switch off the delayed write funktion of the Raid-Controller during
installation (this is always good for trouble)

ah, by the way, I also tried ubuntu 6.06 workstation it was also not
working but I missed to write the detailed error-message

[Bug 51292] Ubuntu-Server (6.06) install fail

2006-06-29 Thread Stef
Public bug reported:

When installing Ubuntu 6.06 I got following error when installing the
base-system:
Debootstrap Warning
Warning: Failure tryinig to run: chroot / target dpkg --force-depends --install
var/cache/apt/archieves/base-files_3.1.9ubunutu7_i386.deb
var/cache/apt/archieves/base-passwd_3.5.11_i386.de

on the tty4 I got the following line ((wrote the last two lines)
June 29 10:43:56 base-installer: info: Running
/usr/lib/base-installer.d/40netcfg
June 29 10:44:25 debootstrap: dpkg: syntax error: unknown user 'root' in
statoverride file

as written above this happens during the baseinstall

ubuntu 5 was running fine on that machine

anyway her the hardware description:
dual opteron
4 GB RAM
SATA- ICP-Vortex-Raid-Controller with about 6 HDs attached
hm, nothing special...
I switch off the delayed write funktion of the Raid-Controller during
installation (this is always good for trouble)

ah, by the way, I also tried ubuntu 6.06 workstation it was also not
working but I missed to write the detailed error-message

[Bug 393290] Re: [GMA-500] Xorg spontaneously freezes (under heavy loads?) after a while

2009-08-04 Thread Stef Kautin
YES... (thank you) ...it seems to work also for me with an ACER Aspire One 751
(AO751h).
I'm waiting for a freeze that doesn't came, but I noticed some "limitations" :

  * It seems to be 3D, but compiz is no more "activable" (as I tried to
add "psb" in te WHITELIST of /usr/bin/compiz).

  * I had to "recompile" the psb module when I received the "2.6.28-14" kernel
upgrade, doing :
   $ sudo apt-get install psb-kernel-source
   $ sudo shutdown -r now
=> this second line is a "reboot now"

  * It is impossible to "change user" in gnome without closing the user
session

I get the same problem with an Acer Aspire One 751h running full screen
resolution (1366x768) with 2.6.28-13, but not with 2.6.28-14 !

The poulsbo GMA500 Xorg driver (psb) is provided by "ubuntu-mobile/ppa"
: https://edge.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-mobile/+archive/ppa, and configured
by apt with de "poulsbo-driver-2d" package.

The "poulsbo-driver-3d" package has the same problem.

I provide the X log in attachment.

Do you need something else ?

[Bug 150349] idem : gdm freezes 5 minutes on shutdown button

2007-10-21 Thread Stef Kautin
I have a similar problem on Gutsy Gibbon (it was all right with Feisty
and Edgy).

When I use any "shutdown button" :
o the little red botton on the task bar,
  o the "System/Quit" menu,
  o the desktop shutdown button,
gdm seems to freeze (the only thing I can do is to move the mouse on the
screen) for several minutes (4 to 5)...
 ( ctrl-alt-F1/F7 works fine)
... and the the "popup shutdown window" came to the screen.

And effectively, if I cancel this"pop-up window", the next time I
activate any shutdown button it works fine (the pop-up came immediately)

Version info :
-
GDM 2.20.0

[Bug 255046] [NEW] Xorg freezes 60 seconds on shutdown button activation

2008-08-05 Thread Stef Kautin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I found a problem from Gutsy that is still "present" on Hardy (it was all
right with Feisty and Edgy). When I click on any "shutdown button" :
o the little red botton on the task bar,
  o the "System/Quit" menu,
  o the desktop shutdown button,
gdm seems to freeze (the only thing I can do is to move the mouse on the
screen) for 1 minutes... ( ctrl-alt-F1/F7 works fine) ... and a "strange popup
shutdown window" came to the screen. And then, if I cancel this"popup window",
the next time I activate any shutdown button it works fine (the NORMAL pop-up
came immediately).

This bug is not reproductible if I activate the "update-manager".
This bug doesn't happen to all users (some of them don't have it) !

YES, your right : the gnome-power-manager was not running
(Système/Préférences/Sessions:Gestionnaire d'Energie).
Activating it (the gnome-power-manager) solved the bug.

It really seems that this bug is a duplicate of bug 123078 : "System ->
Quit takes a long time to appear".

[Bug 259168] Re: Network Manager unable to connect to PPTP VPN

2008-09-29 Thread Stef Walter
After looking at the source code, I got this to work by adding a gconf
setting. This setting cannot be properly set from the new network-
manager-pptp UI.

I added a string type gconf key called 'refuse-eap' under the gconf path
of /system/networking/connections/1/vpn and set it to 'yes'

/system/networking/connections/1/vpn/refuse-eap = "yes"

Obviously the '1' number there may be different for different users.

The stack trace doesn't seem to match my problem description of crashing
in the background. It may have been that apport just took a while to
show up, and that gave the illusion of the application crashing in the
background.

[Bug 204922] [NEW] Kernel Oops when plugging in Archos USB device

2008-03-21 Thread Stef Walter
Public bug reported:

On Hardy when plugging in my Archos Jukebox 6000 USB device the kernel
does an oops and the device. It previously showed up as a drive on my
desktop. The Archos Jukebox uses the ISD 200 chipset for its USB
functionality.

The stack trace doesn't seem to match my problem description of crashing
in the background. It may have been that apport just took a while to
show up, and that gave the illusion of the application crashing in the
background.

[Bug 259168] Re: Network Manager unable to connect to PPTP VPN

2008-09-29 Thread Stef Walter
After looking at the source code, I got this to work by adding a gconf
setting. This setting cannot be properly set from the new network-
manager-pptp UI.

I added a string type gconf key called 'refuse-eap' under the gconf path
of /system/networking/connections/1/vpn and set it to 'yes'

/system/networking/connections/1/vpn/refuse-eap = "yes"

Obviously the '1' number there may be different for different users.

Public bug reported:

On my Acer Aspire One 751, as I used Fn-F3 shortcut to stop the
bluetooth module, the icon appearing in the "notification area" is the
"luminosity" one : it's not a bluetooth switch-off icon !

The bluetooth module switched off correctly.

[Bug 406651] Re: 2.6.28-14 kills PSB driver on Dell Mini 10

2009-07-29 Thread Stef Kautin
I get the same problem with an Acer Aspire One 751h running full screen
resolution (1366x768) with 2.6.28-13, but not with 2.6.28-14 !

The poulsbo GMA500 Xorg driver (psb) is provided by "ubuntu-mobile/ppa"
: https://edge.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-mobile/+archive/ppa, and configured
by apt with de "poulsbo-driver-2d" package.

The "poulsbo-driver-3d" package has the same problem.

I provide the X log in attachment.

Do you need something else ?

   $ sudo apt-get install psb-kernel-source
   $ sudo shutdown -r now
=> this second line is a "reboot now"

  * It is impossible to "change user" in gnome without closing the user
session

My ACER Aspire One 751 has a GMA500 (poulsbo) and the same problem

What can I do to report more elements ?

The "poulsbo-driver-3d" version is : "1.1-0ubuntu1~904um1 (jauntry)". It
depends on :
* poulsbo-driver-2d
* xpsb-glx

Version info :

YES, your right : the gnome-power-manager was not running
(Système/Préférences/Sessions:Gestionnaire d'Energie).
Activating it (the gnome-power-manager) solved the bug.

It really seems that this bug is a duplicate of bug 123078 : "System ->
Quit takes a long time to appear".

[Bug 259168] Re: Network Manager unable to connect to PPTP VPN

2008-09-29 Thread Stef Walter
BTW, connecting via the command line works, using the following
instructions:

http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/howto-configure-ubuntu-fedora-linux-pptp-
client.html

The command being executed by network-manager-pptp is as follows:

/usr/sbin/pppd pty /usr/sbin/pptp 10.10.10.10 --nolaunchpppd --logstring
nm-pptp-service-18851 ipparam nm-pptp-service-18851 nodetach lock
usepeerdns noipdefault require-mppe require-mppe-128 plugin
/usr/lib/pppd/2.4.4/nm-pptp-pppd-plugin.so

[Bug 259168] Re: Network Manager unable to connect to PPTP VPN

2008-09-29 Thread Stef Walter
After looking at the source code, I got this to work by adding a gconf
setting. This setting cannot be properly set from the new network-
manager-pptp UI.

I added a string type gconf key called 'refuse-eap' under the gconf path
of /system/networking/connections/1/vpn and set it to 'yes'

/system/networking/connections/1/vpn/refuse-eap = "yes"

Obviously the '1' number there may be different for different users.

[Bug 241139] Re: Intrepid Ibex: Cannot access samba share "Unable to mount location"

2008-09-15 Thread Stef Walter
I'm experiencing this on all SMB shares that I've tried to mount. Both
on an upgrade from 8.04 and a fresh install of intrepid alpha-5 (and
then updated).

[Bug 273346] Re: vboxgtk crashed with AttributeError in on_toolbutton_managevdis_clicked()

2008-09-22 Thread Stef Walter
The stack trace doesn't seem to match my problem description of crashing
in the background. It may have been that apport just took a while to
show up, and that gave the illusion of the application crashing in the
background.
