[Bug 1047059] Re: Packaging Issues into Ubuntu 12.04

2012-09-09 Thread stelford
Hey Joe,
This is fixed in the latest testing packages. Chuck (Short) added in a patch
(#38) at the sametime I did - fixing the exact problem. In light of Emilien's
problem being fixed, I am moving that this is, therefore, closed.

   Regards
   S.

[Bug 1047059] Re: Packaging Issues into Ubuntu 12.04

2012-09-07 Thread stelford
Hey again,
  1) there was definitely a perms problem, which I have fixed here.
  2) the path for where local volumes are stored is (I believe) controlled by
tgt. Have a look inside /etc/tgt/ folder but it should have a cinder.conf with
the path in there. This assumes that you have installed tgt, and I am not sure
if it's cinders place to 'stomp' on any configuration you may have in there.
Regardless, I also put in a fix for the folder for cinder volumes to be created
in /var/lib/cinder/volumes

  Regards
  S.

[Bug 1047059] Re: Packaging Issues into Ubuntu 12.04

2012-09-06 Thread stelford
hello Emilien, a few questions :)

1) is /var/log/cinder not owned by cinder:adm ? if it is, that's the
correct owner/group. What makes you think it's wrong ?

2) that is inside the python 2.7 distribution, that's almost assuredly
the wrong place for it. I have submitted a patch that makes a directory
under /var/lib/cinder/volumes with the owner of cinder:cinder. I am
curious though, how did the volumes end up pointed there ? do you have
anything in your cinder.conf perhaps ?

Regards
S.

[Bug 285701] Re: x gives black screen with fglrx

2009-08-28 Thread stelford
So, I have eventually ended up switching out my videocards in my laptop
and replacing with GeForce.. no problems at all now ;)

But, I DID notice this from the most recent Catalyst (9.8) release notes
;

[RandR 1.2] Monitor detection now functions properly, client no longer
takes several seconds per monitor

May be worth someone giving that new version a try ? I firmly believe
that the monitor detection was fubared.

[Bug 285701] Re: x gives black screen with fglrx

2009-07-07 Thread stelford
Hello Bryce,
I tried the xorg-edgers last night fglrx last night (8.62 I believe) and
still no joy.. blank screen etc, same logfile and same errors. I definitely
think this is a problem with mobility radeons, EDID and lcd detection. I still
get that whole 'nothing connected' and this is with only -1- video card in the
laptop and -1- LCD. Tres weird, n'est pas ?

  Regards
  Stef

here is the working logfile from the laptop. I wipped 9.04 and
reinstalled 8.04 and the latest fglrx. Same config, works like a dream

[Bug 285701] Re: x gives black screen with fglrx

2009-05-02 Thread stelford
I have to also say, I get the -exact- same problem (find attached my
xlog output, and xorg.conf) using a m88 chipset (mobility radeon 3870).
This is allegedly supported but.. not under jaunty. The last Ubuntu that
I tried was hardy, which worked with the same computer. I believe that
something changed with how xorg detects laptop screen is attached to the
graphics card from xorg 1.3.

If you look at the log file for -any- 'blank screen' fglrx problem, you
will notice that the ConnectedDisplay is always all zeros. In other
words, no monitor is detected as 'connected', even though it then goes
on to get the EDID information. In my case, the laptop screen can go
upto 1920x1440 (it's a 17inch laptop screen) but it seems to only find
upto 1400x1050 (which is the highest resolution in the vesa bios for the
m88 I think).

in my case, I can ssh over to the laptop with the blank screen, and even
attaching another monitor to the laptop's vga out port shows me a
1200x1024 desktop on the external. There is -no- way to enable the
laptop screen (not the fn+f3 nor xrandr command/tool. nothing).

Anyway, currently I can use the open source radeon without -any- trouble
(and the xlog is attached for comparison)
