Both of those teams were very good. One played in their conference
championship game. Boise state was a good win. They just beat a team
that beat oregon and played in their conference championship game. WVU
was no slouch. They just lacked consistency. There were just as many,
if not more, respectable OOC wins in the SEC than other
conferences.

Nice try Braveheart, but your *erste nacht* law would be
unconstitutional, violating the fourth amendment protections, and
probably others. Your city council would be quickly smacked down by
the hammer of justice based on existing, superseding law. In your
hypothetical example, the cops would be pursuing the city council to
rescue Murron, and your protesters would be the ones obstructing the
cops because they don't have an (unnecessary) warrant to search the
council gang bang chamber.

In the real example, the cops were well within their authority to
pursue the fleeing suspect.

In general, the law is very well thought out, and deliberated over by
a lot of intelligent people with a lot of experience. The exigent
circumstance exceptions are a limited set of circumstances that give
limited extended authority when it is needed. It's not a bullshit law
that allows "the man" the bang your girlfriend.

It's my understanding from my wife that clinical areas are almost
exclusively nurse only. Because the hospital in House had a free
clinic, it would seem that as a courtesy they may put doctors or
possibly new resident (new doctors fresh out of med school) there
for learning purposes. I think in House's case, his clinic duty was
a punishment due to his bad attitude, which is possible but probably
really rare.

[Bug 935804] [NEW] hewlett-packard keymaps mostly wrong or obsolete

2012-02-18 Thread steubens
Public bug reported:

whilst fixing my touchpad disable key on my own craptop, i discovered
gnome-settings-daemon doesn't even bind separate enable/disable key
events, just toggle. so the following are at best broke:

ohsix@krang:/lib/udev/keymaps$ grep 0xD[8-9] hewlett-packard*
hewlett-packard-2510p_2530p:0xD8 f23 # touchpad off
hewlett-packard-2510p_2530p:0xD9 f22 # touchpad on
hewlett-packard-pavilion:0xD8 f23 # touchpad off
hewlett-packard-pavilion:0xD9 f22 # touchpad on
hewlett-packard-tx2:0xD8 f23 # Toggle touchpad button on tx2 (OFF)
hewlett-packard-tx2:0xD9 f22 # Toggle touchpad button on tx2 (ON)

what follows is background on what i did to fix up a keymap for mine

i was getting events from keymap -i that looked like this
enabled -> disabled
got scan code event 0xD8 without a key code event
got scan code event 0xD8 without a key code event

disabled -> enabled
scan code: 0xD9 key code: help

so i mapped them to on/off as above, didn't work; checked
/apps/gnome_settings_daemon/keybindings saw that it only bound toggle,
set them both to f21 (toggle), it then worked.

the touchpad disable key has worked in the past, what i suspect happened
is that xorg at one time translated on/off events to toggle events, or
that g-s-d at one time caught both or all 3

afair since last looked into, there are now TOUCHPAD_* key codes in
input.h, i did not try them.

as an aside, why aren't the keymaps being submitted upstream as
suggested the user do in /usr/share/doc/udev/README.keymap.txt.gz? i've
seen the same keymaps for quite a few releases

[Bug 930574] [NEW] Sync sensors-applet 3.0.0-0.1 (universe) from Debian testing (main)

2012-02-11 Thread steubens
Public bug reported:

Please sync sensors-applet 3.0.0-0.1 (universe) from Debian testing
(main)

All changelog entries:

sensors-applet (3.0.0-0.1) unstable; urgency=low

  * Non-maintainer upload.
  * New upstream release, with support for GNOME3 Panel (closes: #638099).
  * Drop link-to-libdl and libnotify_0.7_api_change patches, applied
upstream.
  * Drop dh_autoreconf and all bootstrap friends from Build-Depends and
Build-Conflicts, not needed anymore.
  * Update Build-Depends for the GTK+3 port, as per configure.ac.
  * Drop .a and .la files (closes: #633257).
  * Build-Depend on libsensors4 for kfreebsd again, as the package is now
  * available on that architecture.
  * Avoid hardcoding architecture names for libatamart-dev, and drop it
entirely for libsensors4, as all architectures should be supported,
even if the Hurd isn't available yet (closes: #634515).
  * As libsensors-applet-plugin hasn't bumped its sonames but has at least
got an ABI break (due to the switch to GTK+3), and given there are no
external rdepends, avoid a library rename by bumping its shlibs and
adding Breaks: sensor-applets (<< 3.0.0).
  * Change install path for the applet binary, and remove obsolete dirs.
  * Tighten sensors-applet dependency on libsensors-applet-plugin to
(= ${binary:Version}), just in case.

 -- Jordi Mallach Sat, 05 Nov 2011 14:53:12 +0100

sensors-applet (2.2.7-3.1) unstable; urgency=low

  * Non-maintainer upload.
  * Fix compatibility with libnotify0.7. Patch courtesy of Steve Langasek.
(Closes: #630301)

 -- Jérémy Bobbio Wed, 03 Aug 2011 14:16:58 +0200

sensors-applet (2.2.7-3) unstable; urgency=low

  * Use dh-autoreconf to regenerate build system at build time.
  * Update to debhelper compat level 8; bump build-dependency accordingly.
  * debian/*.install: remove debian/tmp prefix that has not been necessary
since debhelper 7.

 -- Sam Morris Sat, 26 Mar 2011 14:08:11 +

sensors-applet (2.2.7-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * Again, don't build-depend on libatasmart-dev for kfreebsd architectures.
Closes: #592489.

 -- Sam Morris Tue, 10 Aug 2010 22:20:53 +0100

sensors-applet (2.2.7-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release

 -- Sam Morris Sat, 17 Jul 2010 12:42:19 +0100

sensors-applet (2.2.5-4) unstable; urgency=low

  * Don't build-depend on libatasmart-dev on kfreebsd-{i386,amd64},
which is not yet available on those platforms.

 -- Sam Morris Fri, 02 Apr 2010 11:55:43 +0100

sensors-applet (2.2.5-3) unstable; urgency=low

  * Build-depend on docbook-xml and rarian-compat. Closes: #564397.

sensors-applet (2.2.5-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * Switch from CDBS to debhelper 7.
  * Regenerate autotools-generated build system at build time. New
build deps:
 - autoconf
 - automake
 - libtool
 - gnome-common (for GNOME_COMPILE_WARNINGS macro)
Also conflict with old versions of autoconf/automake.

[Bug 843596] [NEW] overlay scrollbars cause drawing problems in the drawing area of "golly" the a-life program

2011-09-06 Thread steubens
Public bug reported:

apt-get install golly, run golly from a terminal or start from
Applications -> Games

open one of the example files from the left list and press enter, look
at the area that would normally contain a full sized scrollbar.

i dunno how golly is written, it might expect the controls to write over
that area, or it might be calculating the size incorrectly; but it does
end up with garbage where the scrollbars would be

yes it still happens; it's due to the murrine theme and the maintainer

patches in the past for it and iirc still does in 11.04)

[Bug 789827] Re: always on top windows don't remain always on top when there is a fullscreen window active

2011-07-22 Thread steubens
i often have movies above firefox that is running fullscreen on windows;
i would like to be able to do this with linux, i don't mind adding the
properties to windows manually to use whatever facility might exist in
the future to do it, but i'd like say; "always on top" from the compiz
window decorator menu to have them on top of fullscreen windows, or at
least an option i can change in ccsm to say that it's ok for _ABOVE to
be on top of _FULLSCREEN :D

[Bug 706436] Re: Safely remove drive is not safe for SD card readers

specifically, http://hal.freedesktop.org/docs/udisks/udisks.7.html

setting ID_DRIVE_DETACHABLE to 0
and all the properties for ID_DRIVE_FLASH_SD (and friends)

a helper could probably be put together like the other helpers in udev
to do this automatically based on the vendor, and detecting the media
format

[Bug 706436] Re: Safely remove drive is not safe for SD card readers

2011-07-19 Thread steubens
it's very easy to tell udev this, but you have to do it manually; i do
the same to tell it what format the card reader can read, you'd need
some list of major/minor versions and what they are to do this
automatically, at least that's the conclusion i came to when i tried to
figure out how to automate it

the key word here is udev though, that is where the properties are
assigned

[Bug 711429] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_closure_invoke()

2011-07-18 Thread steubens
i figured out a way to reproduce this crash! :D (and the crash you still
get with the bodge)

it happens when you select one of the files you just deleted, before
they've left the view. to help do this i copied 30-40 mp3 albums into a
separate folder, entered that folder, then picked the top 8 or so; held
shift and pressed delete

immediately after hitting enter to dismiss the warning dialogue i hit
the down arrow key a bunch of times; if you succeed the focus will
change to one of the files in the selection, with the wrong icon, and it
will immediately crash thereafter

turns out this is what i was doing every time i triggered the crash ;]

This is more a workaround only, expect assert failures at other places when

prevents immediate crash."

[Bug 751800] Re: nm-applet icon has white gap when on ad-hoc network

2011-06-30 Thread steubens
i haven't seen this in a very long time; compiz was apparently causing
some gap in the panel, though i don't see how; and that was fixed a
while ago, maybe it was the same thing and with my theme it was
something more conspicuous (white)

i dunno to invalidate this bug or fixed released; but feel free to do
whatever

[Bug 793796] Re: 2.6.38-10 panic after ejecting drive

2011-06-30 Thread steubens
ok, r2 panics

i'm thinking that the different stacks in one of the panics (that i
noticed) might mean there are 2 problems with the same steps to
reproduce, if you can give me instructions on how to run the series
again i can bang it out here and mind the different panic signatures

only thing i'm fuzzy on is how to make .debs from git or what tree to
pull from if not mainline

also, am i understanding correctly that whatever b8 was, could be the
new start point to skip a handful of steps?

b8 does not panic

the last 3 or so revs that haven't panicked seemed to have markedly
better io throughput to the drive i am using, compared to the ones that
panic; but b8 also gave me an io error on the junk file i've been using
on the drive; i'll inspect it and see if it wasn't just the drive asap

ok b6 panics; but i noticed the stack was different this time, it never
makes the elv_ call it's all in scsi stuff

i wasn't paying much attention to the actual output with the other ones,
when i have access to a notcrap camera again i'll see if they're
different as well

[Bug 802276] [NEW] brightness adjust 3 steps from hard (Fn) keys

2011-06-26 Thread steubens
Public bug reported:

the brightness adjusts in 3 steps, i thought it was annoying but
adjustable in gconf; finally investigated and saw it wasn't :]

if i echo 0 > /sys/module/video/parameters/brightness_switch_enabled it
reduces one of the extra steps

if i killall gnome-power-manager i get no backlight adjustment, from my
understanding its solely responsible, but i can't find the extra
brightness event input, acpi_listen shows the video adjustment, as does
input-events 4 (the video device)

X opens the video event device as an input but i don't know if that
means g-p-m will see it as another event

hoping someone can tell me more about g-p-m and where it gathers events
so i can finish investigating, or solve the bug outright :]

[Bug 697358] Re: Regression in window list applet (wnck-applet) behavior

2011-06-17 Thread steubens
lores: you might try and file another bug for that, this one is already
pretty messy and that's a separate thing, the original problem (though
the title has been changed) is attributed to compiz and does appear to
be fixed here.

i tried to reproduce on my netbook and it wasn't doing it; there's not a
lot of ram in it and it isn't fast enough to really stack up a lot of

that kernel you prepared also panics; i tried automating the tests with
udisks --unmount and --eject, but it wouldn't do it, so if you need to
reproduce the test be sure to use "safely remove drive" from nautilus; i
don't know what the distinction is but that's what i've been using

ok, both the .7 and the .8 kernel do panic; just as easily

i'm using a 1tb bus powered usb drive and i wait for at least 20 seconds
while cat writes to the junk file, it does it with my other usb drive
as well

still dunno why this is targeting libwnck; it's a change in drag
behaviour with the wm, dragging stuff onto quick launch icons are also
broken when this behaviour is observed, try it

i'll see to running them asap, as to the other comments; as far as i
understand the "panic" from the mode switch is scheduling while atomic,
but the error that caused the mode switch (to display the other panic)
is from the elv_ / block layer further down the stack

[Bug 793978] [NEW] snapping edges really broke hard with the last update

2011-06-07 Thread steubens
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

some windows had moved when i ran compiz --replace after the package was
updated; so i dragged and held shift to lock them back to their edges
like they were, the window did not settle when the button was released;
and if i tried to snap to 3 edges it actually never stops moving, it
keeps wobbling

so, open a terminal or some other window; drag it (holding alt or just a
regular decorator drag) while holding shift to lock it to an edge or
two, or three; let go of the button. the window drifts from the snap

[Bug 793796] [NEW] 2.6.38-10 panic after ejecting drive

2011-06-06 Thread steubens
Public bug reported:

with 2.6.38-10 (and .39, doesn't happen with 2.6.38-9; does that mean
it's a regression?) it would panic after ejecting a drive in under most
circumstances, by doing cat /dev/zero > /media/junk/junkfile, killing it
after a few seconds, then using "safely remove drive" in nautilus for
that same drive; it will cause the panic

[Bug 788382] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_slice_alloc() when ejecting drive

2011-06-06 Thread steubens
i couldn't figure out how to get nautilus to keep from spawning, i
copied the autostart .desktop to .local/share/applications and changed
it to not autostart but apparently that didn't override the main one; i
also tried nautilus -q, and searching for whatever gconf keys are
restarting it, to no avail; pedro, if you know or know where i can ask
someone (i already asked on #nautilus on gimpnet, not many people
around) i'd appreciate it

yes, but the crash site is usually more like the one in bug #651931,
i've just been reporting it every time i trigger it by clicking in the
client area, theres probably more than one crasher depending on when you
click before it initially paints the window/resizes it

[Bug 783589] [NEW] /etc/mailname missing on fresh install, make-googleearth-package exits if not present

2011-05-16 Thread steubens
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: googleearth-package

clean install of 10.10 (then upgraded to natty, but shouldn't matter)
doesn't have any /etc/mailname or any package that generates it (not
sure which one did, but i think it's related to the default-mta virtual
package which had some of its deps changed since 10.04 or earlier)

the script to generate the package fails without it (i tried, but not
very hard to pass the parameters on the commandline and it still
wouldn't run without the file present)

[Bug 780031] [NEW] volume control does not track pulse's after a restart

2011-05-09 Thread steubens
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pithos

if you adjust the volume in pithos, it will track in pulse, and vice
versa

the first restart after doing that they're out of sync again so you
either need to adjust it in pithos again or adjust it in g-v-c

once they're synced together it works great

[Bug 754321] Re: can no longer be selected as default mail application

2011-05-02 Thread steubens
i looked into this a bit again, i'm gonna prepare a patch to support the
messaging menu, it's just a matter of changing the .desktop to include X
-Ayatana-Desktop-Shortcuts=, and the subsections for each shortcut it
supports

you can look at /usr/share/applications/evolution.desktop for how to do it
the files that reference the entries are here:
/usr/share/indicators/messages/applications

hopefully that will be enough until i have time to put the patch
together, thanks!

[Bug 754321] Re: can no longer be selected as default mail application

2011-05-02 Thread steubens
as i said in the initial message, they changed the meaning of a "default
mail client" to suit the contact/presence menu, if desktop-webmail is
going to return it probably needs to be able to compose directly and
start a client with a message, as that's all the other mailers require
to show up on that menu, as of the last time i used it it just handled
mailto: which was an implicit compose

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: desktop-webmail

as in title, i filed a bug earlier about it not working with indicator-
message before; it seems their solution was to change the wording in the
"preferred applications" applet, so compose only mailers do not
literally fit into either role. i use web mail exclusively and would
like to use it in its proper role in the indicator-message menu and as a
  desktop mime handler for email:

+ but i'm referring to above: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source

[Bug 697358] Re: regression in window list applet (wnck-applet) behavior

2011-05-02 Thread steubens
sebastien i love you! but this bug doesn't apply just to wnck-applet,
but the entire panel; create a launcher and try dropping a file on it
when the window switcher doesn't work, it's the same thing, could the
title or the initial message be amended to include this? you've marked
the other bugs that actually hilight the problem as a duplicate of this
one, which is just one of the symptoms (the one that catches me all the
time is dropping things on icons, the window switcher is just a small
annoyance)

[Bug 774651] [NEW] windows initially mapped with the fullscreen property are never "seen" by compiz

2011-04-30 Thread steubens
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

first off i really resent the post release belittling from apport when
you use ubuntu-bug; i do not want to talk to one person that doesn't
know what i'm talking about when i report a bug, nevermind thousands, OR
a forum.

on to the bug, as stated in the title, easily reproduced here with
firefox; create new profile, hit f11 to go fullscreen, then close it
without removing fullscreen, and restart it

expected:
compiz to "know" of the window in the switcher and the scale plugins, and
elsewhere after a restart with it in fullscreen, like it knows of it before and
after f11, before restarting it

got:
untracked windows

PS: please make apport less patronizing for people who might know why
they are running ubuntu-bug, i had to "lie" just to get it it to
continue

[Bug 740756] Re: dragging files/folders onto launcher icons no longer works (classic desktop)

2011-04-20 Thread steubens
i need to learn to be less hyperbolic, i thought someone actually
removed the functionality at the time :D but, it has to do with compiz,
i don't know how; but, it works for a while, then stops working (like it
doesn't know what the cursor is over, aside from the outer window), it
works again for a while after compiz --replace

my main issue was there was no public discussion; there was a trac post
that seemed to invite public discussion, then a second post that
confirmed the original post-hoc, there was no public discussion and it
is pretty plain that someone just decided they didn't like it and
removed it, which is fine; you're well within your means and ability to
do so, but i don't need a passive aggressive act, admit that there was
no intention for public input instead of dismissing my input out of
hand. even being, gasp; rude about it.

here's the full log for anyone wanting to join the pity party;
