Re: [Bug 815984] Re: keyboard/mouse freeze upon visiting news.yahoo.com

2018-08-25 Thread Raleigh Daniel Stout
Thank you for checking in. I have since convinced myself that the freezing
of keyboard and mouse at the Yahoo! News website had more to do with
javascript and advertising and tracking downloads. I now block as many of
those advertisers and trackers as I can.

You can close the bug report. I was not fully aware at the time I reported
it that javascript, ads, and trackers, could have an impact. The freezing
of keyboard and mouse probably mean that the browser has not fully
processed all the downloads called for by the web site.

Raleigh Stout

[Bug 1774882] [NEW] Links in accerciser event monitor not working

2018-06-03 Thread James Stout
Public bug reported:

The links in the accerciser event monitor are neither showing the proper cursor
when hovering over them, nor are they working when clicking them. The hovering
issue also causes python errors to be printed to the commandline as the cursor
is moved around. As it turns out these can be fixed with two small code changes
for these respective broken behaviors:
https://github.com/wolfmanstout/accerciser/commit/ad9d75617383943754d8331f56c6605b6cef03d2
https://github.com/wolfmanstout/accerciser/commit/db5871d6ca8d2eb08f26753d9b07dda9da49

In both of these cases, the underlying cause seems to be a change in the
GTK API.

In the first, the function now returns a tuple instead of the iter directly:
https://lazka.github.io/pgi-docs/Gtk-3.0/classes/TextView.html#Gtk.TextView.get_iter_at_location

In the second, the button field now contains an object instead of just an int:
https://lazka.github.io/pgi-docs/Gdk-3.0/classes/Event.html

I would be happy to fix upstream but I'm not sure if this breaks
compatibility with other older clients, so I'm sharing here first. I
suppose the change could be modified to analyze the output of the
function and behave appropriately in all cases.

Re: [Bug 1159149] Re: COULD NOT INITIALIZE THE PACKAGE INFORMATION

2013-03-24 Thread MAXWELL BRYANT STOUT
I hope I followed your instructions exactly. I tried the sequence three
times. However on the last step I get the following:

 max@max-desktop:~$ sudo apt-get update max@max-desktop

E: Malformed line 46 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (dist parse)

E: The list of sources could not be read.

max@max-desktop:~$ E: Malformed line 46 in source list
/etc/apt/sources.list (dist parse)

bash: syntax error near unexpected token `('

Once again, I thank you for your efforts on this problem.

Max Stout.

OK, I see the issue. If you are comfortable with the terminal we can
 correct this.

 In the terminal enter:

 sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list

Once the file has opened find the line you pasted back to me. Using the
arrow keys and editing the line. Change it to look like the line below.

 deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu precise partner

Once the same. Type 'CTRL+X', you will be prompted to save the file. At
this point hit 'y' and it will save and exit back to the terminal. One
this is the case run the following command in the terminal.

 sudo apt-get update

After this, all should be fine.

2012-03-18 Thread stout
I reported this back in August of '09.

While I commend the dedication to fixing it, don't prod along on my
account - I just kept trying successively newer versions of Ubuntu as
they came out, and got more powerful hardware as well... and the
problems eventually stopped.

Don't ask me which change solved it, as most every hardware upgrade
was accompanied by a fresh install, so it could have been anything.

For what it's worth, I think the hardware I had installed in '09 was
unstable. I have the motherboard in a box if anyone wants it, I'm not
doing anything with it...

[Bug 887690] Re: Yahoo! Mail SMS Texting stopped working

2011-11-22 Thread Raleigh Daniel Stout
After receiving the Mozilla Firefox 8.0 software update, I can now open
the Yahoo! Mail SMS texting function again. But, the browser still
hangs up on the link http://www.yahoo.com.src=cdgm.intl=us.lang=en-
us/ and says it cannot find the server when I attempt to log out of
Yahoo! Mail. So, I continue to use my backup action of logging out at
the Yahoo! main page instead.

[Bug 887690] Re: Yahoo! Mail SMS Texting stopped working

2011-11-09 Thread Raleigh Daniel Stout
I installed Google Chromium web browser and it can perform the Yahoo!
Mail SMS texting function fine. So, I conclude the problem is with
Firefox browser. The browser did support the SMS texting function in
yahoo mail for many months.

I also noticed that the Google Chromium web browser handled a logout
function from Yahoo! Mail where the Firefox browser continues to hang up
after two months of attempting to logout from Yahoo! Mail directly. I
had to use a workaround in the Firefox browser of going first to the
yahoo homepage to sign out.

[Bug 887690] [NEW] Yahoo! Mail SMS Texting stopped working

2011-11-08 Thread Raleigh Daniel Stout
Public bug reported:

I have been using Yahoo! Mail SMS Text forwarding to mobile phones
successfully using Ubuntu and Firefox until today. The function does
not activate in the web browser anymore after logging into Yahoo! Mail.
I am concerned that new software updates for Firefox and Ubuntu may have
changed the support for that function in Yahoo! Mail.

[Bug 815984] [NEW] keyboard/mouse freeze upon visiting news.yahoo.com

2011-07-25 Thread Raleigh Daniel Stout
Public bug reported:

Using the standard NoScript whitelist and Firefix web browser, the
keyboard and mouse lock up when visiting an individual news story web
page at news.yahoo.com. This has occured with USB mouse and PS-2 mouse
and has been recreated several times since about 7/21/11. The only
recourse upon lockup is to reboot the PC because there is no access to
the Force-Quit control in the panel of Ubuntu 11.04.

in /var/log/dpkg/status, there is an in3tall that should be an
install. Vim will find it pretty easily if you /in3 and hit enter.

I changed it to install, re-ran apt-get update apt-get upgrade and
everything went smooth.

In the light of that opinion, I'll toss in that plasma frequently
crashes on my system with an error that says something along the lines
of we were being asked to do too much and we lost track of what we
were trying to do, so here's a pair of lips going *plblblblblblblb*.

Also, I thought it was an unrelated hardware problem, but on
infrequent occasions (once a month or so) my system will suddenly stop
recognising anything USB. I ignored it as an unrelated hardware
problem because one of the reviews for the chassis I have specifically
stated due to the riser slot design and case air flow dynamics, heat
tends to build up around the support bar and slowly edges the card out
of the slot. This eventually causes a large volume of trash to be
tossed out over the PCI bus confusing the USB host enough to make it
commit suicide.

Granted I don't know exactly which motherboard the guy used, nor even
what OS, but I am using a fairly popular motherboard for HTPC systems
and it's an HTPC specific case, so the probability we're using the
same motherboard is decently high (5 or 8% likely).

Habst du ein Guten Tag,
Eric

 Hello everybody,

it is hard to give the root cause for this bug.

It appears quite frequently, e.g. after rebooting.
So I suspect it has to do with KDE/plasma startup.
The Device (USB Stick) notification mechanism could be involved as well.

Note: My Kubuntu system was upgraded - not freshly installed.

Let me know if I can do anything to further analyze the problem - it's
 quite annoying.

 Thanks

any bug unless you click on Yes you can provide step by step instructions

upgrade.  I only know of _one_ product which was behind such a crash and that
was Kontact.  All of the others were mystery package failures.

Re: [Bug 365411] Re: ALC1200 incorrectly identified and improperly setup

2009-10-13 Thread stout
 Hi

Somebody tried his ALC1200 on Karmic Koala BETA? there is ALSA 1.0.20 -
Problem should be solved with Karmic?

Sorry, turns out my onboard is an ALC888 that was misidentified with
prior ALSA tools. My sound card now works in Karmic, but I think
there is still progress to be made on selecting audio paths. This is
well out of scope for this bug issue, but I'll throw it out there
anyways. As long as all you're dpoing is hooking speakers up to a
system directly, it's all well and good. these days though, a lot of
people are routing their audio through their HDMI ports to the TV set.

I think it should be significantly easier to do this than editing
various files. I'll send an email in about 11 hours with details on
what I edit to make it work.. Once the edits are done though, then I
can select the proper stuff in the pulse GUI tools.

Like everything else though, it _does_ work so I don't expect a change
any time soon. Maybe I'll write something for it when I'm on vacation
next year.

That out of the way, my onboard Realtek ALC1200 isn't working in Ubuntu 9.04.
The Alsa 1.0.18a reports correcting this.

 From
 http://www.linuxstreet.net/news/E/22304/ALSA-1-0-18-Final-Now-Available-Lots-of-Changes.html,

Since ALSA 1.0.18 RC3 there were quite a few improvements to the Oxygen
driver for some high-end C-Media APUs, many HDA Codec driver improvements
including support for HDMI audio on the NVIDIA MCP78/7A, ALC1200 / ALC887
support, and many driver updates from the Google Summer of Code projects.

Could we get this package updated please, so that I and many others may have
 working sound?

 Thanks a million,
 Dennis Stout

This is a daily occurance.

Firefox crashed, apport tried to report the bug and it crashed itself,
leading to around 30 some odd apport-kde instances running. Each
instance consumes 2.6 or 2.7% of 1.5G of ram.

It normally happens about twice a day, though today it's crashed four
times this morning alone and once required a reboot.

All I do is click to send bug reports.

This hardly looks like a bug in apport itself, more likely in pyqt or
libxcb. Anyway, do you have a recipe how to reproduce this? What did you
do exactly and how far did you get?

[Bug 402268] [NEW] package tomboy 0.15.3-1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 139

2009-07-21 Thread stout
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tomboy

1) Karmic Koala, 10.4

2) All I did for the package update was sudo apt-get update sudo apt-
get upgrade. That was done in a terminal while I was poking the web
(facebook, specifically Mafia Wars which requires flash on some level or
another..) with firefox.

3) I expected it to install everything and move on.

4) It didn't.

[Bug 365411] [NEW] ALC1200 incorrectly identified and improperly setup

2009-04-23 Thread stout
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: alsa-base

st...@aspen:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 9.04
Release:9.04
st...@aspen:~$ apt-cache policy alsa-base
alsa-base:
  Installed: 1.0.18.dfsg-1ubuntu8
  Candidate: 1.0.18.dfsg-1ubuntu8
  Version table:
 *** 1.0.18.dfsg-1ubuntu8 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

That out of the way, my onboard Realtek ALC1200 isn't working in Ubuntu
9.04. The Alsa 1.0.18a reports correcting this.

From http://www.linuxstreet.net/news/E/22304/ALSA-1-0-18-Final-Now-
Available-Lots-of-Changes.html,

Since ALSA 1.0.18 RC3 there were quite a few improvements to the Oxygen
driver for some high-end C-Media APUs, many HDA Codec driver
improvements including support for HDMI audio on the NVIDIA MCP78/7A,
ALC1200 / ALC887 support, and many driver updates from the Google Summer
of Code projects.

Could we get this package updated please, so that I and many others may
have working sound?

Thanks a million,
Dennis Stout

Re: [Bug 183059] Re: Update Manager in Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron) Crashed after partial update

2008-11-18 Thread Eugene Stout
I am not able to use Ubuntu right now because my keyboard shorted out a
resistor on my motherboard.  So until I can get the motherboard fixed, I will
not be able to check out the fix for this bug I reported.  But I will keep it
in mind and check it out as soon as I can get my motherboard fixed.

Gene

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue
for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.
