Re: [Bug 815984] Re: keyboard/mouse freeze upon visiting news.yahoo.com
Thank you for checking in. I have since convinced myself that the freezing of keyboard and mouse at the Yahoo! News website had more to do with javascript and advertising and tracking downloads. I now block as many of those advertisers and trackers as I can. You can close the bug report. I was not fully aware at the time I reported it that javascript, ads, and trackers, could have an impact. The freezing of keyboard and mouse probably mean that the browser has not fully processed all the downloads called for by the web site. [Bug 1774882] [NEW] Links in accerciser event monitor not working
Public bug reported: The links in the accerciser event monitor are neither showing the proper cursor when hovering over them, nor are they working when clicking them. The hovering issue also causes python errors to be printed to the commandline as the cursor is moved around. As it turns out these can be fixed with two small code changes for these respective broken behaviors: https://github.com/wolfmanstout/accerciser/commit/ad9d75617383943754d8331f56c6605b6cef03d2 https://github.com/wolfmanstout/accerciser/commit/db5871d6ca8d2eb08f26753d9b07dda9da49 In both of these cases, the underlying cause seems to be a change in the GTK API. In the first, the function now returns a tuple instead of the iter directly: https://lazka.github.io/pgi-docs/Gtk-3.0/classes/TextView.html#Gtk.TextView.get_iter_at_location In the second, the button field now contains an object instead of just an int: https://lazka.github.io/pgi-docs/Gdk-3.0/classes/Event.html I would be happy to fix upstream but I'm not sure if this breaks compatibility with other older clients, so I'm sharing here first. I suppose the change could be modified to analyze the output of the function and behave appropriately in all cases. I reported this back in August of '09. While I commend the dedication to fixing it, don't prod along on my account - I just kept trying successively newer versions of Ubuntu as they came out, and got more powerful hardware as well... and the problems eventually stopped. Don't ask me which change solved it, as most every hardware upgrade was accompanied by a fresh install, so it could have been anything. For what it's worth, I think the hardware I had installed in '09 was unstable. I have the motherboard in a box if anyone wants it, I'm not doing anything with it... [Bug 887690] Re: Yahoo! Mail SMS Texting stopped working
I installed Google Chromium web browser and it can perform the Yahoo! Mail SMS texting function fine. So, I conclude the problem is with Firefox browser. The browser did support the SMS texting function in yahoo mail for many months. I also noticed that the Google Chromium web browser handled a logout function from Yahoo! Mail where the Firefox browser continues to hang up after two months of attempting to logout from Yahoo! Mail directly. I had to use a workaround in the Firefox browser of going first to the yahoo homepage to sign out. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/887690 Title: Yahoo! In the light of that opinion, I'll toss in that plasma frequently crashes on my system with an error that says something along the lines of we were being asked to do too much and we lost track of what we were trying to do, so here's a pair of lips going *plblblblblblblb*. Also, I thought it was an unrelated hardware problem, but on infrequent occasions (once a month or so) my system will suddenly stop recognising anything USB. I ignored it as an unrelated hardware problem because one of the reviews for the chassis I have specifically stated due to the riser slot design and case air flow dynamics, heat tends to build up around the support bar and slowly edges the card out of the slot. This eventually causes a large volume of trash to be tossed out over the PCI bus confusing the USB host enough to make it commit suicide. Granted I don't know exactly which motherboard the guy used, nor even what OS, but I am using a fairly popular motherboard for HTPC systems and it's an HTPC specific case, so the probability we're using the same motherboard is decently high (5 or 8% likely). Re: [Bug 365411] Re: ALC1200 incorrectly identified and improperly setup
Hi Somebody tried his ALC1200 on Karmic Koala BETA? there is ALSA 1.0.20 - Problem should be solved with Karmic? Sorry, turns out my onboard is an ALC888 that was misidentified with prior ALSA tools. My sound card now works in Karmic, but I think there is still progress to be made on selecting audio paths. This is well out of scope for this bug issue, but I'll throw it out there anyways. As long as all you're dpoing is hooking speakers up to a system directly, it's all well and good. these days though, a lot of people are routing their audio through their HDMI ports to the TV set. I think it should be significantly easier to do this than editing various files. I'll send an email in about 11 hours with details on what I edit to make it work.. Once the edits are done though, then I can select the proper stuff in the pulse GUI tools. Like everything else though, it _does_ work so I don't expect a change any time soon. Maybe I'll write something for it when I'm on vacation next year. This is a daily occurance. Firefox crashed, apport tried to report the bug and it crashed itself, leading to around 30 some odd apport-kde instances running. Each instance consumes 2.6 or 2.7% of 1.5G of ram. It normally happens about twice a day, though today it's crashed four times this morning alone and once required a reboot. All I do is click to send bug reports.
