[Bug 1885249] [NEW] hard lock kernel
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 16.04 guest VM running under vmware hypervisor. VM is used for running qemu/docker instances of virtual routers. After upgrade to linux-image-4.4.0-184-generic we get hard-lockup of the kernel (no interaction on the console, no crash report or anything) as soon as VM is put under load (several minutes in, 5 virtual routers started and configured). VM was running -177 or -178 for ~50 days without issue. I tested -179 as well, doesn't have this problem. linux-image-4.15.0-106-generic (latest hwe kernel) also doesn't have this problem. All of these are Ubuntu provided kernels installed using regular install process. So to sum up: Works: 4.4.0-177 to -179. 4.15.0-106 also works. Doesn't work: 4.4.0-184 causes immediate problems (within 10 minutes after starting this test/simulation environment). Hard-lockup only happens during the test and seems to be either memory/load dependent. Unfortunately I don't have any debug output because of this hard-lockup. $ sudo dpkg --list | grep -i linux-image ii linux-image-4.15.0-106-generic 4.15.0-106.107~16.04.1 amd64 Signed kernel image generic rc linux-image-4.4.0-177-generic 4.4.0-177.207 amd64Signed kernel image generic rc linux-image-4.4.0-178-generic 4.4.0-178.208 amd64Signed kernel image generic ii linux-image-4.4.0-179-generic 4.4.0-179.209 amd64Signed kernel image generic ii linux-image-4.4.0-184-generic 4.4.0-184.214 amd64Signed kernel image generic ii linux-image-generic4.4.0.184.190 amd64Generic Linux kernel image ii linux-image-generic-hwe-16.04 4.15.0.106.111 amd64Generic Linux kernel image ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04 Package: linux-image-4.4.0-184-generic 4.4.0-184.214 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-106.107~16.04.1-generic 4.15.18 Uname: Linux 4.15.0-106-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.23 Architecture: amd64 Date: Fri Jun 26 07:10:53 2020 ProcEnviron: TERM=xterm-256color PATH=(custom, no user) LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: linux-signed UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: linux-signed (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug xenial -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1885249 Title: hard lock kernel To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-signed/+bug/1885249/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1821843] Re: 4.4.0-143 (xenial) contains a change that breaks out-of-tree modules
I was affected by this bug. Thanks for posting it so I could find it. I installed the hwe kernel packages (4.15 kernel) for ubuntu 16.04, removed the old 4.4 kernels, then Parallels tools installed just fine. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1821843 Title: 4.4.0-143 (xenial) contains a change that breaks out-of-tree modules To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1821843/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1550823] Re: checkarray doesn't work with sh = dash
Hi, I just ran into this. I am active on both the linux-raid mailing list, and on the #linux-raid IRC channel. We frequently get people in both places who have problems with their arrays, some of them is because of lack of frequent "scrubbing" to find read errors on the drives. This issue needs to be fixed before it turns into a huge disaster. The current default behaviour of checkarray cron is that it's run first sunday every month. This is a sensible default, but it's now broken in Ubuntu. Please fix this, before people start to lose data because checkarray isn't currently working. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1550823 Title: checkarray doesn't work with sh = dash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mdadm/+bug/1550823/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1364091] Re: Possible RAID-6 corruption
Great, but what about the kernels for older LTS releases still under support? Neil stated this affects all kernels back to and including 2.6.32. [Bug 1364091] Re: Possible RAID-6 corruption
This problem affects all stable kernels from 2.6.32 and onwards, and this patch needs to be applied to ALL kernels from that date to avoid data corruption on double degraded RAID-6 volumes being written to. This is not an mdadm problem, it's a kernel problem. ** Also affects: linux-kernel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1364091 Title: Possible RAID-6 corruption To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-kernel/+bug/1364091/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1096294] Re: 8086:4236 Wifi regression in linux-image-3.2.0-35-generic-pae
I downloaded linux- image-3.8.0-030800rc5-generic_3.8.0-030800rc5.201301251535_i386.deb, rebooted, noticed that it didn't have the iwlwifi module, rebooted back into 3.2.0-36, had the wifi problem, rebooted to -34, worked, downloaded the extra package (linux-image- extra-3.8.0-030800rc5-generic_3.8.0-030800rc5.201301251535_i386.deb), rebooted into 3.8.0-rc5, everything worked as it should. Then I made a mistake and shut the computer down instead of rebooting. Turned it back on and booted into -36 which worked, rebooted again to -36 and still worked. So I think I have to wait 1-2 weeks until I can totally confirm that -36 definitely doesn't work and 3.8.0-rc5 does. I will update this bug report in 1-2 weeks again to confirm. [Bug 1096294] Re: Wifi regressioin in linux-image-3.2.0-35-generic-pae
Hello. Thanks for the interest in my problem. I updated bios just now: *-firmware description: BIOS vendor: LENOVO physical id: 0 version: 6DET72WW (3.22 ) date: 10/25/2012 size: 128KiB capacity: 8128KiB I am now running -26 kernel. First cold boot after BIOS update worked ok (wifi started working after a few direct probe retries), then I rebooted again and got the excessive retries and wifi wouldn't associate. I tried rmmod/modprobe iwlwifi 4 times, still no go, same behaviour. I then rebooted the router and rmmod/insmod again, and then things started working. The behaviour is a bit erratic, but it seems that the problem occurs after 1-2 weeks of uptime for the router. Cold booting the X200 doesn't usually solve the problem either, I tried that with the -35 kernel. I have had the X200 and the DIR-855 router for 4 years and never seen this behaviour before the 3.2.0-35 kernel. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1096294 Title: Wifi regressioin in linux-image-3.2.0-35-generic-pae To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1096294/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1096294] Re: Wifi regressioin in linux-image-3.2.0-35-generic-pae
I just upgraded to the latest version, -36. The problem still occurs, but I would like to quantify my statement. Sometimes it just works after reboot. [Bug 1096294] [NEW] Wifi regressioin in linux-image-3.2.0-35-generic-pae
Public bug reported: Hello. I have a Thinkpad X200 with Intel 5300 wifi card. 03:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Ultimate N WiFi Link 5300 Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device 1011 Physical Slot: 1 Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 48 Memory at f2a0 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=8K] Capabilities: [c8] Power Management version 3 Capabilities: [d0] MSI: Enable+ Count=1/1 Maskable- 64bit+ Capabilities: [e0] Express Endpoint, MSI 00 Capabilities: [100] Advanced Error Reporting Capabilities: [140] Device Serial Number 00-21-6a-ff-ff-03-8c-26 Kernel driver in use: iwlwifi Kernel modules: iwlwifi After upgrading to 3.2.0-35 from 3.2.0-34 I have problems connecting to my D-link DIR-855 on 5GHz. After rebooting the computer, I frequently have to reboot my router in order to connect. Reloading (rmmod/modprobe) iwlwifi doesn't help. I tried several times back and forth between 3.2.0-35 and 3.2.0-34 and with 3.2.0-34 I can always connect without rebooting the router, but with -35 I have yet to be able to connect directly after boot without rebooting the router. Public bug reported: Hi. I reported a problem with md-raid to the linux-raid mailing list: http://www.spinics.net/lists/raid/msg39876.html I there was told that this was a known bug in the mdadm version included in 12.04 LTS, and asked to upgrade to 3.2.4 or later, which I did by means of the mdadm version currently in proposed-upgrades. This worked fine, so I am just creating this bug to encourage you to release the version in proposed-upgrades as it seems to fix my problem. I have however not rebooted the box, so the changes to initrd etc I have not tested. ** Affects: mdadm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1030735 Title: problem hot-adding spare / internal bitmap problem To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mdadm/+bug/1030735/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 647488] [NEW] when xorg starts, screen is corrupted
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I have a thinkpad T40 with a radeon mobility 7500. On Sep 11 2010 I dist-upgraded my Ubuntu 10.10 and rebooted without any problems, shut it off an didn't use it anymore. On Sep 25 2010 I did the same, rebooted, and then after normal boot the login screen is either black or has a few lines of pixels. System is very unstable, after a few alt-ctrl-f1 and so on, the system freezes. I have tried kernels 2.6.35-17, -20 and -22, plus a 2.6.36-rc5 from kernel-ppa. All behave the same. Doing FN-F7 (the switcher between internal/external screen) once most of the times give a working screen. After login it's black/corrupted again, FN-F7 workaround works again. I saw the machine freeze a couple of times, seems generally unstable. Booting with nomodeset makes everything work as normal without any noticable stability problems. Doing the bug reporting on it now. I am now at 10.04 and the problem persists. swm...@swm-laptop:~$ apport-collect 345226 The authorization page: (https://edge.launchpad.net/+authorize-token?oauth_token=7279kJBV8SnpTzLLrL0wallow_permission=WRITE_PRIVATE) should be opening in your browser. I believe just as an IPv4 address is flushed after suspend, all active TCP sessions depending on that tcp session needs to be flushed as well. I am sshfs:ing from a 10.04 server as well, and the weird thing is that I can't find any TCP/22 corresponding to sshfs on either server or client, the only thing I can find is a unix socket: swm...@swm-laptop:~$ netstat -anp | grep sshfs unix 2 [ ] STREAM CONNECTED 889086 2201/sshfs swm...@swm-laptop:~$ ps auxw | grep sshfs swmike2201 0.0 0.0 44916 1240 ?Ssl May13 0:00 sshfs ub6: ub I'm doing this over IPv6 btw. After killing sshfs and re-establishing the sshfs session I now see a TCP/22 session belonging to ssh process, so I guess sshfs talks to ssh via a stream socket. -- after resume, sshfs mounted dir can't be remounted immediately https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/345226 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 516524] Re: Passphrase request at bootup doesn't work properly
Basically this is done according to the following guide: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EncryptedFilesystemHowto3 Here's how to reproduce (even though this reproduction is actually worse than what I've seen before, now I'm afraid of rebooting my karmic box because it won't come up again): Installed karmic alpha 2, and then dist-upgraded everything. apt-get install mdadm apt-get install cryptsetup mdadm --create --level=1 --raid-devices=2 /dev/md0 /dev/sdb1 missing cryptsetup luksFormat /dev/md0 cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/md0 md0_crypt mkfs.ext3 /dev/mapper/md0_crypt mkdir /t /etc/crypttab: # target name source device key file options md0_crypt /dev/md0 none luks # /etc/fstab: add this /dev/mapper/md0_crypt /t ext3 defaults 0 2 /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf add this (change uuid): ARRAY /dev/md0 level=raid1 num-device=2 UUID=c0357b84:18cb2297:8282d032:d2636449 That results in it just waiting for the volume, doesn't ask for the crypt password. [Bug 516524] [NEW] Passphrase request at bootup doesn't work properly
Public bug reported: Hello. I have two machines with crypted /home (one machine, this is directly on a partition) and the other with crypted /home (on md) and / (using alternate install method in 8.04 or 8.10). I have since upgraded these to 9.10 and 10.04 respectively, and the 10.04 machines was running 9.10 at one point. Both of them worked perfectly in 9.04 in respect to the passphrase was asked correctly and the boot procedure worked properly. On all these machines, the entering of passphrase at boot works very badly. Booting without quiet and splash yields the possibility to enter it blindly in the boot process, because the request for passphrase doesn't seem to be in the right place in the bootup process (at least for crypted /home). With the machine with just crypted /home, I have to type it multiple times (blindly) and after a few attempts it works. Sometimes I have to drop to shell to do it manually and then resuming the boot process. With the 10.04 machine I also had the problem that when running with splash and quiet, if the md the crypted volume resided on didn't come up correctly, this wasn't even detected at all and the boot process would just wait endlessly without asking to drop to rescue mode. My crypted volumes are properly entered in /etc/crypttab: sdb1_crypt /dev/disk/by-uuid/b23e9d57-2ecf-4411-bcbd-23ca39e924e5 none luks md0_crypt /dev/md0 none luks My guess is that crypted volumes (either directly on partitions or on md) isn't part of the verification process for releases? I can supply more information if needed, but I think it'll be pretty easy to reproduce, just create a partition on the system, cryptsetup luksFormat it, enter it in /etc/crypttab, start it manually, create an fs on the /dev/mapper/volume , and then put this in /etc/fstab. Then start to induce problems in the boot process and see what happens. I can provide more information as needed, I can create a video as well if needed. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Passphrase request at bootup doesn't work properly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/516524 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 473876] Re: [LENOVO 7454CTO] suspend/resume failure
I have tried the workaround found in http://launchpad.net/~x301/ (deactivating CPU cores during suspend/resume) which worked well for me in 8.10, this didn't help (actually gave me flashing moon during suspend phase and not only during resume). I also tried stopping gdm so I had no X server running, and then running /etc/acpi/sleep.sh as root, this resulted in flashing moon-freeze during suspend (didn't suspend properly) within 2-3 attempts (replicated twice, first time it happened on second attempt, second time it happened on third attempt). I so far have not seen the problem occuring when it's actually suspending (only when resuming) when I run with X server running and without the workaround. I'm going to try to use it normally (with X) with the workaround and report back later if it seems to change anything. -- [LENOVO 7454CTO] suspend/resume failure https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/473876 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

When you roam between different IPv6-enabled wlans it doesn't flush the RA-learned addresses/routing when you change wlan:s, so after a while you might have 3-4 different IPv6 /64 assigned to the wlan0 interface, which of course doesn't work because it only has routing to the last one but tries to use them all. I just want to chime in that I have the same problem. Lenovo X200, resume from sleep gives me a mouse pointer on a black screen, and then no response from the system. [Bug 263260] Re: ipv6 stops working after a while
I have now tried kernel.org latest kernels of 2.6.25, 2.6.26 and 2.6.27 and they all have the same problem, I also booted a harlddy installation with my kernel.org 2.6.26.3, and it had the same problem also. The weird thing is that I had ipv6 working perfectly with my old hardy installation (hard drive broke so I had to re-install). I'm at loss as to what is going on here... No configuration has changed on the cisco router and it's running a very recent IOS so there should be no problem there either. I have disabled IGMP snooping on my switch, didn't change anything either. -- ipv6 stops working after a while https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/263260 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have restarted networking (networking stop ifconfig eth0 down networking start killall dhclient networking reload) Now everything works again. I have created a cron script that is run every hour, that pings an ipv6 address. Weird thing is that tcpdump -p -n proto ipv6 doesn't show any packets, tcpdump -p -n icmp doesn't show any ipv6 packets either, so I am having a hard time troubleshooting this. Any ideas? PS. It might be related to Networkmanager, because I don't have Networkmanager in System-Administration to set up the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses in, so for IPv4 I'm having to kill off dhclient each time I restart the network because networkmanager seems to think I should be running dhcp on the interface. [Bug 150611] Re: swapper: page allocation failure. order:1 in ipv4 stack
I've now been running 2.6.27-2-generic for 36 hours and trying to put some load on it, and haven't seen any hiccups yet. The problem still exists in 2.6.24, but I guess it won't be fixed, and 2.6.26 and 2.6.27 both seem fine. Let's close this and I'll re-open a new bug against 2.6.27 if I get problems in the future. -- swapper: page allocation failure. order:1 in ipv4 stack https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/150611 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 158018] Re: 7.10 installation doesn't work with MSI NX7600GT
I just installed alpha4 again, and if I choose safe mode the installation screen is all garbled but not garbled enough so that I can't get thru the complete install. After reboot, X boots properly and I get a 1280x1024 screen that is not garbled, but is not the correct resolution either. So it seems the alpha4 installer in safe mode does things that subsequently installed X doesn't do (or the other way around). -- 7.10 installation doesn't work with MSI NX7600GT https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/158018 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I'm currently running a stock 2.6.26 from kernel.org with has proven itself stable: Linux via 2.6.26 #1 SMP Mon Jul 14 08:07:27 CEST 2008 i686 GNU/Linux 20:46:13 up 38 days, 23:12, 5 users, load average: 0.76, 0.46, 0.28 So I guess intrepid should be stable since it's also based on 2.6.26. [Bug 158018] Re: 7.10 installation doesn't work with MSI NX7600GT
I tried two different 7600GT based cards, the ASUS one with 2xDVI works ok, the MSI one with 1xDVI and 1xHDMI does not (looks the same as with 7.10) Everything looks ok in the installer (the livecd I guess it should be called) until X is started, then the graphics is garbled. I have made a youtube video of the video startup (at the start black screen when I just killed the X server by ctrl-alt-backspace) just to indicate what kind of garbleness it is. It can be seen at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LoKyth4pdK8 -- 7.10 installation doesn't work with MSI NX7600GT https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/158018 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
