I have created PPA for my version of Nanny which has these things fixed
and some extra features implemented (still has some bugs, but generally
it works). If you are interested, check out:

[Bug 972783] [NEW] Crashes with segmentation fault operating asn1_meth_table

2012-04-03 Thread tabbernuk
Public bug reported:

Trying to update Server Access Certificate with DigiDoc client for
Estonian ID cards crashes implicating an OpenSSL problem.

The problem has been there from OpenSSL 1.0.0, but does not happen using
OpenSSL 0.9.8.

Debugging with Valgrind gives variety of:

Invalid free() / delete / delete[] / realloc()
Invalid write of size n
Invalid read of size n

The context is:

==5779==at 0x402B06C: free (in
/usr/lib/valgrind/vgpreload_memcheck-x86-linux.so)
==5779==by 0x6A818C9: CRYPTO_free (mem.c:393)

==5779==by 0x6AEE3B7: ENGINE_set_default (eng_fat.c:96)

I'm currently testing it on Ubuntu 12.04 beta 2 with

* opensc 0.12.1-1ubuntu4
* libssl1.0.0 1.0.1-2ubuntu4
* qdigidoc 0.4.0-0ubuntu4

The problem has been also tested on Oneiric and discussed in some length
at: http://code.google.com/p/esteid/issues/detail?id=168

I attach also some debug logs.

[Bug 825143] Re: Udev rules not updated/smart card reader not recognized after installing CCID

2012-02-02 Thread tabbernuk
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 807763 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/807763

In what sense is this bug duplicate? I understand, that it's not clear
what package this bug belongs to and marking it duplicate of a ccid bug
leaves an impression, that the diagnosis on ccid bug page is correct,
which would implicate that the bug does actually belong to udev, which
creates an infinite regress, because it's marked duplicate of ccid bug.
In this case, shouldn't ccid bug be duplicate of udev bug? Would that be
right?

Anyway, somebody with real knowledge of the problem should review the
bug.

[Bug 879240] Re: Firefox hangs when trying to use any dropdown or right-click menu

2011-12-28 Thread tabbernuk
I have the same problem on Firefox 8 too.

It occurs only on one of my computers and only occasionally. Rebooting
usually fixes the problem. The problem was more persistent on a live
system, so it may happen because of low resources (I speaking of Intel
Celeron E1400 @ 2.00GHz × 2 with 1GB RAM and GeForce 8600 GT/PCI/SSE2 or
Intel 82945G/GZ).

The same bug is reported to occur in Firefox 8, 9 and 10 as well and on
a different machine.

[Bug 851313] Re: Dash Minimize / Maximize / Close buttons are not very pretty

2011-10-27 Thread tabbernuk
I'd argue for removing of these buttons, because Dash in technically not
a window, but a dock or toolbar or something in this vein. It's also
problematic, because when user opens Dash, the buttons to close/maximize
Dash appear exactly at the same place where were the window buttons (if
a window was open). It gives us two levels of window buttons (and Dash
is partly transparent, if you remember) and is confusing. For
consistency reasons, there shouldn't be window buttons on Dash.

It seems to be the same as bug 658865

However, I have heared already from two sources that install fails, so
probably this has got worse during the time.

[Bug 868311] Re: Screenlets doesn't remember the correct workspace on restart

2011-10-08 Thread tabbernuk
Maybe you can make a generic DummyScreenletNN.py (or whatever name you
need) calling to WhateverScreenlet.py, because it's good NOT to have
many of the same actual screenlets in system. I think, it would cause
trouble when updating a screenlet version and/or render modifying the
screenlet code very obscure. What about starting screenlet from command
prompt, will your planned changes apply to this situation too?

I remember that there is some python (or c) module to change file
name/identifier when the file is running. I don't remember the name of
the module now (and I don't know if this will work for Compiz plugins),
but this might be usable for implementing your idea. Maybe you can go
for much less hackish solution this way... If I recall the name of the
module, I'll let you know.

[Bug 868311] Re: Screenlets doesn't remember the correct workspace on restart

2011-10-06 Thread tabbernuk
It seems acceptable, it's not more hackish than screenlets itself, but
I suggest that instead of just a copy, you should create a symbolic
link. Are you familiar with Bazaar version control? I made you member of
Screenlets Developers team, and you can submit code directly. Just try
to write clean and understandable code, so we can see, if there could be
problems or everything works out fine.

Tried with Ubuntu Oneiric beta and the corruption is still there.

The versions in beta are:

I attach the picture of the corruption, which seems to be of the same

[Bug 840199] [NEW] Firefox does not render two images on my page

2011-09-03 Thread tabbernuk
Public bug reported:

Basically I have added number of images on my page, and Firefox does not
render two of them. The pattern of including the images on the page is
exactly the same, images exist on server (Firefox shows them, when I
click on link), Midori renders everything all right and I have no clue,
why it is so. I attached the HTML file. Even if you do not have the
images present, the ALT links are not rendered, so you don't need actual
images for testing. Adding/removing images on server does not make
difference.

I suppose it's the file name (septembris-468x60.png and septembris-
728x90.png) that makes page rendering to not function correctly?
Evertything else is exactly the same.

[Bug 840199] Re: Firefox does not render two images on my page

2011-09-03 Thread tabbernuk
Testing the bug a bit, it seems that x60 part in septembris-
468x60.png is the culprit. If I replace the x with , or xx or z
everything works. If I replace the x with _ it's still broken.

So I can conclude that the bug essentially is that the filename of the
image affects displaying or hiding the image.

[Bug 820881] Re: [i945] Heavy screen and font corruption on GMA950

2011-08-13 Thread tabbernuk
It seems the bug appears only when more than one users are
simultaneously logged into the system. At least logging into system one
user at time seems to help a lot in avoiding the bug. This may also be
the reason why bug is not common for most users and not so easily
detected (according to counter.li.org 41.67% of Linux users have only
one account in their system).

It also seems that bug resolves when I log all the users out and start a
new session in the situation where no users are logged in. This is even
a bit strange, because the screen is corrupt even in gdm login screen,
which should not depend on running sessions as I (maybe incorrectly)
presume.

Sitsofe: I think I could test 3.0 kernel from Ubuntu Oneiric alpha Live
CD. If I have time and possibility to do that on my computer, I'll try
that out.

[Bug 577351] Re: Window doesn't move to another workspace

2011-08-12 Thread tabbernuk
I'm surprised that this kind of basic desktop usability bug with that
long history is marked incomplete and yes, the bug is still there in
Natty Narwhal.

The bug appears for me when I right click on window title and from
window menu choose to move window to another workspace. The bug doesn't
seem to appear very regularly, but one way to reproduce it seems to be
following:

1. Open multiple non-maximized windows on desktop
2. Right click on the title of non-focused window
3. Choose Move to another workspace and select workspace by number

The window does not move to selected workspace.

The bug does not appear only when choosing non-focused windows, but also
happens when the window menu of an already focused window is opened. I
suppose it may also happen when using Alt-SPACE.

[Bug 820881] [NEW] Heavy screen and font corruption on GMA950

Ubuntu 11.04 package version 2:2.14.0-4ubuntu7.2 (was the same for
2:2.14.0-4ubuntu7.1)

Heavy screen corruption appears after some ~12h usage. It is similar or
probably includes font corruption reported in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
intel/+bug/745608, but certain other GUI elements, for example desktop
background are corrupt too. Corruption appears after logging in and out
to system between different users using different applications in
different screen modes, but I haven't fount a clear recipe how to
produce it.

[Bug 820881] Re: Heavy screen and font corruption on GMA950

2011-08-04 Thread tabbernuk
I add the links to related pictures in another bug report.

Heavy corruption of desktop and fonts:
 https://launchpadlibrarian.net/76389588/Medium%20corrpution%20desktop.png
Medium corruption:
 https://launchpadlibrarian.net/76389610/Heavy%20corruption%20desktop.png

I also tried fixing the problem with some workarounds and applied

Section Device
Identifier Intel
Driver intel
Option Tiling false
EndSection

in /etc/X11/xorg.conf. This seemed to protect the desktop from
corruption, but still corrupted the Ubuntu menu bar (see the image
attached to the report).

If I applied DebugWait=true from xorg.conf, the corrution appeared the
same as before.

[Bug 745608] Re: [915GM] font corruption on Intel GMA900

2011-08-04 Thread tabbernuk
In #3 there are mentioned that window buttons display some kind of
streak, but taking screenshot is not possible. I'm providing a
screenshot of it on my Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express
Graphics Controller (rev 04) on Ubuntu 11.04.

[Bug 745608] Re: [915GM] font corruption on Intel GMA900

2011-08-04 Thread tabbernuk
Sitsofe:

I reported the bug on my i945 with the desktop etc corruption at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
intel/+bug/820881

However I suppose the bug on my i915 is the same one as described here,
because I see mainly font corruption. Window buttons are a small
exception which is quite hard to notice, but this was also reported in
the original bug report on i915. I believe these reports belong
together, because they both consist of similar defects (extra vertical
lines on small sprites). Or do you suppose there should be also separate
bug report on window buttons for i915?

And I want to stress that I didn't have the font corruption problem on
Ubuntu 10.10 (and before), or at least it didn't happen often enough for
me to notice it (although I still think I have seen it couple of times
during past years).

[Bug 745608] Re: [915GM] font corruption on Intel GMA900

2011-08-03 Thread tabbernuk
I installed the update package 2:2.14.0-4ubuntu7.2 from natty-proposed
and it seems to make things better. At least on my laptop (915/910) I
haven't noticed corruption since upgrading the package (but this may
change in time, I cannot be sure).

But it's different on my desktop (945), where the new package probably
reduces the problem, but it still appears in previous form after some
time. When I set Tiling=false it reduces corruption a lot, but there
still appears some like before. Although I did notice it only in Ubuntu
menu bar (submenus were fine). When I set DebugWait=true instead of
Tiling=false, some of the games started doing a lot of hiccups and
were practically unusable (I tried teeworlds from GetDeb). Some
corruption appeared but was very episodical, by now I have noticed it
only on GDM logon background image. I'd say, for me Tiling=false seemed
a better workaround, because it didn't ruin the gaming experience and I
didn't notice too much slowing down.

[Bug 745608] Re: [915GM] font corruption on Intel GMA900

2011-08-03 Thread tabbernuk
Just after writing that I noticed font corruption on my laptop (915/910)
login screen. I haven't set anything in xorg.conf on my laptop though.
If the corruptions have really been reduced, only time will tell, it
certainly seemed so at the beginning. But they have not been removed by
the new package or workarounds, that's for sure. DebugWait=true doesn't
seem a viable option for me, because it renders some of the graphically
more demanding programs unusable.

Thanks for the efforts though. If you have any suggestions how and what
more to test, I'm willing to help.

[Bug 745608] Re: [915GM] font corruption on Intel GMA900

2011-08-01 Thread tabbernuk
I add three pictures of this bug on my 2 different computers, laptop and
desktop. It seems to me that the bug often becomes effective after
system has suspended and activated again or different users logging
on/off the system running/killing their applications.

Both systems have Ubuntu 11.04, xserver-xorg-video-intel version on both
systems is 2:2.14.0-4ubuntu7.1, according to lspci desktop has 82945G/GZ
and laptop has 915GM/GMS/910GML. Laptop occasionally shows slight
corruption, however desktop gets heavily corrupted and this doesn't
affect only fonts, as it may seem in the beginning.

[Bug 807763] [NEW] Smart card reader not recognized/udev rules not updated after installing CCID

2011-07-08 Thread tabbernuk
Public bug reported:

If I install the packages pcscd libccid opensc and connect (or
reconnect several times) my smart card reader, it is not recognized by
opensc-tool. It is recognized only after I run udevadm control
--reload-rules and reconnect my reader. Running udevadm can be
substituted by rebooting Ubuntu.

I expect that the reader should be available either right after
installing the packages or at least after reconnecting the reader.
Rebooting or running udevadm seems a step back from previous versions in
Ubuntu, where reader was immediately recognized.

I'm using Ubuntu 11.04 and the versions of packages from default
repositories. Please see attached log for the details.

[Bug 784106] [NEW] Updating filename in window title on step too late

2011-05-17 Thread tabbernuk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

When I have more than one file open in Gedit and I switch between files
either using tabs or keys, the filename on window title bar refreshes to
a new value not right after switching, but much later. It seems that the
refresh occurs only if I switch to a new file again, so that I see
always the name of previously edited file in window title. This has been
an issue already in couple of latest Ubuntu releases, but as reporting I
use Maverick and Gedit 2.30.3-1ubuntu1.

[Bug 776708] [NEW] No possibility to define default bookmarks for all users/profiles in system

2011-05-03 Thread tabbernuk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

In previous versions (before 4.0) one could add bookmarks.html to
/etc/firefox/profile to define default bookmarks for the system, but
this option is now disabled and there is no alternative proposed to
define custom bookmarks.

[Bug 747810] Re: inconsistent naming for screenlets

2011-04-26 Thread tabbernuk
Starting Screenlets from the dash will actually start two programs:
Screenlets Daemon and Screenlets Manager. If you close Screenlets
Manager, daemon still keeps running.

So you shouldn't think that names Screenlets and Screenlets Manager are
inconsistent. The first one names the whole Screenlets framework on
user's system. The second one names the manager for Screenlets, which is
started to indicate to user, that Screenlets framework is running and
waiting for orders.

If you choose Quit Screenlets from appindicator/tray menu, Screenlets
Manager and Screenlets Daemon both and all the individual screenlets are
terminated.

[Bug 765888] [NEW] Invalidate rect/process update causes flicker for Cairo drawn content

2011-04-19 Thread tabbernuk
Public bug reported:

Screenlets (which are Cairo drawn widgets in an undecorated GTK window)
started to flicker in Natty from early alphas and are still flickering
in latest beta. It seems that invalidating GTK window causes the window
to go blank for a moment and then redraw its contents. Anyway the result
is hard flickering in some cases and more gentle flickering in other
cases. The same code works without any flickering in Maverick.

Ubuntu Natty (development branch) 11.04
libgtk2.0-0: 2.24.4-0ubuntu2
screenlets: 0.1.3-0ubuntu1

[Bug 765962] [NEW] Repainting a widget causes Cairo drawn window background content to disappear

2011-04-19 Thread tabbernuk
Public bug reported:

Screenlets (which are Cairo drawn widgets in an undecorated GTK window)
include some cases where there is GTK widget on Cairo-drawn background.
One example is Lipik sticky notes screenlet for which the background is
an SVG image and foreground is coloured GTK Textview widget. At start
the widget is painted on SVG background all right, but writing something
into the Textview makes the GTK window on background go blank and lose
the Cairo drawn decorations. It also seems that this happens only when
the line written into Textview is longer than the lines already
contained in it (if the right margin needs to be extended, the window on
the background is blanked).

The behaviour started in Natty from early alphas and is still there in
latest beta. The same code works without any problems in Maverick.

As far as I understand, it is not clear how to turn the resize grip off
in Python... See bug #704105. Any ideas?

See also an older bug #717989 in Screenlets for other GTK problems from
Natty and more screenshots.
