[Bug 307892] Re: pitivi crashed with SIGSEGV in PyThreadState_New()
Thanks for reporting this bug. The version of PiTiVi you are using is not the latest version, and the PiTiVi devs can only afford to investigate bugs that are reproducible on the latest PiTiVi release or the development (git) version. [Bug 503410] [NEW] Fluendo MP3 and MPEG codecs are not supported
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pitivi Taken from the PiTiVi user manual: Some GStreamer codecs, such as the Fluendo MP3 and MPEG muxers, while providing you with a legal way to playback files (in countries where software patents laws are upheld), may not be completely compliant to the GStreamer specifications. Some users have reported problems when using those codecs (read: not being able to import MP3 files when those codecs are installed). The reason for this behavior is that they are codecs oriented towards playback, and, being not entirely spec-compliant with GStreamer, cannot be used correctly by PiTiVi for editing. This situation is unfortunate. If, eventually, those codecs are fixed to become full-fledged GStreamer-compliant playback and editing codecs, they will work with PiTiVi. In countries where software patents are not upheld, you can simply remove them and use the GStreamer “ugly” set of plugins instead. Hey there Stani, I'm also experiencing this bug. I have a core2quad with 4 Gb of memory (3.9 Gb available, with a PAE-enabled kernel). Re: [Bug 448438] Re: idle/screensaver inhibition feature doesn't work reliably in karmic
I've built an updated hamster-applet package in the following PPA: https://launchpad.net/~mdeslaur/+archive/screen-locking Please try it, along with the gnome-screensaver security update for karmic that came out a couple of days ago, and give feedback here. I gave it a shot, tested with totem, hamster, fullscreen eye-of-gnome, with - screensaver - screen blanking - automatic suspend/sleep/whatever ...and it works! Great! :) On a side note, I did have the impression that my netbook (also running 9.10, but not running hamster applet) also sometimes had a problem with session idling, suggesting the possible presence of *yet another* bug on top of all this, but maybe it was just my imagination; I am not really qualified enough to investigate that. Time will tell, or maybe Chris Coulson knows about other session idling problems? In any case, the most visible part of this bug is fixed by the (not optimal, but working) hamster patch. It feels all warm and fuzzy to finally have working session idling again. -- idle/screensaver inhibition feature doesn't work reliably in karmic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/448438 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 479630] Re: cannot use a SOCKS proxy in karmic with most applications
Yes, it is consistently reproducible. To do this: 1. have a machine that will be used as the SSH host in which you will tunnel into 2. SSH into it, by running this in a terminal: ssh -v -N -D 8000 the-remote-host, keep the terminal open 3. go in gnome's proxy settings (gnome-network-properties) 4. set the mode to manual proxy configuration 5. set the socks host to localhost, port 8000 (leave the other proxy types blank) 6. make the terminal (the one with the ssh tunnel running in it) show always on top so you can see its activity at all times 7. use epiphany, evolution, empathy, to visit websites or connect to accounts. Notice that nothing happens in the terminal. 8. use chromium-browser, firefox, pidgin to do the same: notice that activity shows up in the terminal where SSH is running (new channels are opened, etc.), indicating that those apps indeed use the socks proxy So actually it's not that the gnome proxy is broken, but that evolution, empathy and epiphany (which used to work) don't support it. ** Changed in: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = New -- cannot use a SOCKS proxy in karmic with most applications https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/479630 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Then: 1. do nothing for 2 minutes. The screen should blank. Yes, along with gnome-session and gnome-power-manager. I did some further testing, and indeed, eog causes the same kinds of problems as totem did: if you use fullscreen once, you won't have working session idling (ie: eog doesn't uninhibit, it seems) until you logout. -- idle/screensaver inhibition feature doesn't work reliably in karmic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/448438 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 448438] Re: idle/screensaver inhibition feature doesn't work reliably in karmic
Upstream replied that they fixed the warnings in totem, and that they couldn't reproduce the problem, but I can see how the original warning might happen. Most likely, gnome-screensaver crashed, or was killed, and the gnome-session inhibition didn't notice. gnome-screensaver is supposed to proxy to gnome-session, and it should be transparent to users. Bastien finished by: File a bug against gnome-screensaver if you still see the problem. Now the question is whether we will still be affected now that a fix for the warnings has been committed in totem, or if gnome-screensaver is still problematic, or something. Luis, could you help doing some additional testing on this? Re: [Bug 325973] Re: gnome-session keeps respawning nautilus when no desktop is drawed
could the users who get the issue give details on the reason why they turn off the background display? To have a clean background (more detailed justification on http://open-source.ecchi.ca/?voir=articles/killing_the_desktop ) the new nautilus version used in karmic has a gconf key to not exit in such case, it would make sense to use that if users are trying to get a clean background Would work in my personal case, according to your description... [Bug 448438] [NEW] idle/screensaver inhibition feature doesn't work reliably in karmic
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: totem Ok, this is really weird. I know that gnome-power-manager's inhibition features have been migrated over to be handled by gnome-session, and the g-p-m features for that were deprecated in gnome 2.28. What I'm seeing here is that - totem does seem to inhibit the screensaver (contrary to what other bug reports say), however: - it sometimes forgets to release the inhibition. If you run it with --debug, you can see errors such as this one: j...@kusanagi:~$ totem --debug Vidéos/8-bit\ trip.mp4 (totem:4604): GLib-WARNING **: GError set over the top of a previous GError or uninitialized memory. This indicates a bug in someone's code. You must ensure an error is NULL before it's set. The overwriting error message was: Method AllowActivation with signature on interface org.gnome.ScreenSaver doesn't exist ** (totem:4604): WARNING **: Problem inhibiting the screensaver: Method UnInhibit with signature u on interface org.gnome.ScreenSaver doesn't exist Now, I'm not sure exactly why, the inhibition sometimes seems to work, sometimes not. When it doesn't work, - the screen will not blank anymore, the session will not go idle (and will not lock) - if you attempt to log out of gnome, you will get a warning about totem (sometimes, multiple instances of totem!) being busy and inhibiting (while totem has only a single instance, and it is long gone). I hope I'm clear enough and that this info is helpful. One thing that is certainly crucial to get right for Ubuntu 9.10 final is session inhibition, especially when dealing with the default video player.
