Got rid of Lexmark, and am now using an OKI C5950, which suffers similar
problem. OKI C5950 was listed in the linux printer site as being fully
compatible, but isn't. Bug still exists on 10.04 LTS and is application
specific. So using 'Document Viewer' / Evince printing is ok, though it
does take breathers for big documents. Printer can't handle jobs from
Adobe 9 and latest Open Office. Dies complaining of an error after a
single page on Adobe Reader 9, and can only do a page or two on OO, and
takes forever and dies on files with 4 or more pages using OO Impress or
OO Draw.

I must be a complete noob.
Please explain:
1. Where exactly the following is, or what steps need to be followed: "click in 
the header pane to the left of the attachment list box. When I did so, an 
interesting thing happened. The icon for a signed email appeared there"
2. Tried to help myself by finding the bug report duanedesign mentioned, but 
can't find a url for: Bugzilla#453490
